Hi @wdashwor - great question. Haydn wrote the concerto for the keyed trumpet, a similar instrument, but one that was invented just before the keyed bugle. The keyed trumpet is cylindrical and the keyed bugle is conical. collections.ed.ac.uk/mimed/record/18067?highlight=keyed+trumpet
The difficulty of playing keyed brass instruments and having an even tone throughout just goes to show us all how important the invention of the valve was to brass instrument design.
This sound better than Piston Cornets or Trumpets. I think the old days thing were more interesting and not that easy with three or four valves. And the Keyed Bugle has a sound than no other one can compare with. Love the Keyed Bugle, it is one of my big Dreams.
Now *_that's_* an instrument!
--sincerely, a woodwind player
Magic. That sound, its, perfect.
I think it is an excellent research result and performance that remembers the efforts of early modern period artists.
Fantastic! Thank you so much!
You are very welcome! Glad you enjoyed the video.
Wow 😩
Hey, John! Sounding as good as ever!
So that 1st song was God Save the Queen or as we call it in the USA My Country Tis of Thee.
Wonderful to see and hear! Is this the instrument Haydn wrote his concerto for?

@@StCeciliasHall Thanks!
The keyed bugle sounds so much better than a valved cornet! It seems to have so much more expressive possibilities than modern valved brass!
Only in the West have music and musical instruments reached such a level of complexity and sophistication.
Yankee doodle dankey indeed.
Sounds awful 😖 but an interesting design.

That answered a question I’ve had. Thanks!
