I genuinely believe that this show has the best writing of any show that’s aired on TV. The writing’s up there with Downton Abbey and Peep Show.
The writing is so meticulous that every time you rewatch there’s something new that you missed the first time, similar to Truman show in that regard!
Undeniably brilliant.. you can tell the writers had amazing chemistry.
Literally. It's crazy how the entire episode goes completly off the rails and it feels like random stuff is happening until the end where it circles back to the beginning. It feels like it shouldn't make sense but it does.
Three of my favorite shows (esp. writing wise) are Xavier, Peep Show, and Twin Peeks. What a strange assortment of shows lol
I cannot believe the human mind can master wordplay to that level. It's insane.
"It helps no one to be reductive" is the most brilliantly stupid line I've ever heard.
It's reductive in and of itself, so it's hypocritical, and yet the very fact that it's so flawed proves it has a point.
"I have no powers. I mean, unless you count the power to blow minds with my weapons-grade philosophical insights."
nostalgia (for simpler times)
You forgot the opening line of that quote, which is the best part: "Pshhh. Powers are for the weak."
"I'm a survivor. We're a dying breed" hit my funny bone way harder than it had any right to.
I still don't get this joke :( could you explain, please?
@@musical_bruh Survivors live. Being a "dying" breed is an oxymoron.
"We're like beauty and the beast, waddya say? Wanna be my beast?"
Wrote this comment before seeing the actual scene 😂 close enough
“And what do you call these… wind monkeys?”
that's the level of confidence most people would do anything for, plus 10 bucks (They're on the right track already)
Xavier looks so stupid on a surface level, but if you keep watching eventually your brain realizes that this show is so dense and witty that you were actually the stupid one not being able to keep up
"it's just PRETENDING to be retarded! joke's on you!"
XRA is incredibly intricate as a show, and honestly I had a lot of fun rewatching it because it made me realise just how much I had missed of the initial message!
Why would you watch a show that seems stupid on a surface level? I've got better things to do.
@@WobblieSkellie did you read the second part? Nevermind you must be stupid
Holy expletive.. . I was hospitalized at the end of 2008 for 4 months at the age of 20. I was heavily sedated and often time had real fever dreams as I coded a few times through the whole process. I hadn’t seen this show since then and forgot that it could even be a show. I legit thought this was a fake show. Trying to explain night time tv to friends and family often times got sympathy. I thought I was being stored in a closet and used a breathing machine to drive myself around the hospital. I was just in ICU dying. Thank you for making this video and restoring a bit of my sanity
I’m sorry you had to go through all of that, and I’m glad that this video can prove that XRA is real, albeit a fever dream of a show ❤️
It’s ok, it pushed me on a wild direction. I experimented with life possibly because of shows like this and now own a business and built a house from 4 shipping containers!
Bro I feel u I watch the show as a kid late at night when I would like wake up from the middle of a nightmare some thing and it would just be on TV because it’s like 3 AM on adult swim like as I never could find it again, so I thought it was a fever dream to LMFAOOOOO
Maybe your fever dream was so powerful it willed the show into existence.
At least after xavier was cancelled, the team got to do a good number of shows with almost the exact same humor. Delocated, neon joe, the heartshe holler, and shivering truth are all extremely slept on.
That’s very true! And not an opportunity that everyone gets that’s for sure
Wait same writers
Shivering Truth is as good as Xavier if not better
@@hayaokakizaki4463 couldn't get into it
@@harryfromendshave you ever seen or heard of ScreamerclauZ. they make 3d animated horror movies much in the vein as xavier. I highly recommend Where Black Birds Fly.
oh and also look up M dot strange's We are the Strange
This show is the perfect example of “So stupid, it’s smart.”
I'd say it's so smart people think it's stupid
XRA is cool because he is the only celestial being that can make vehicular manburger helper and save -50 miles to the gallon at the same time.
And the only being that uses cigarettes and bacon to time travel
@@harryfromends Your singing is fantastic btw.
The "Renegade" part of the title was a reference to the popular and long running Lorenzo Lamas show of the same name, where a leather coat clad drifter wandered across the desert helping folks in small towns on his motorcycle. I think the idea was to take that and mash it with the various angel-helping-people shows of the time for the core concept, then twist it further into the shape beyond recognition we all know and love.
This is a brilliant bit of knowledge! Thank you 💫
DUDE you are not going to believe this, but on my very final day of high school in English class I gave a presentation on post-modernism in literature and media and I ALSO compared the Divine Comedy to X:RA, but I had very different reasons for doing so, my argument was that post-modernist storytelling can add to a story but when taken to extreme, can make a story almost impossible to consume, I used Inferno as an example because it can retroactively be shown as having used post-modernist elements hundreds of years before the idea of post-modernism, and compared it to Xavier which is almost unbearable for average people due to its constant wordplay, vulgarity, spontaneity, fast pace, and purposefully unlikeable and annoying characters. I had to comb through the XRA clips just to find one that was SFW, I ended up going with the telephone demons, and everybody laughed. A kid I knew was going to record it but I couldn't focus with it on so it's forever lost to time, but I got a perfect score on it after a semester of not giving a fuck about school
That’s brilliant ahha, and I can only imagine it was an excruciating task finding a SFW clip of XRA ahaha
Mike Lazlo leaving was the worst thing to happen to that network. it was all the old guard that let folks goof off and make what they want
Very true, at least we have smiling friends currently, but apart from that, not too much to write home about!
The craziest thing is that I can't even definitively say that Xavier was the weirdest thing to air on that block at the time 😂 Good ol fever dream Adult Swim
Me and two of my friends split an oz of shrooms between the 3 of us and then randomly decided to watch this. Had no idea what we were in for, watched the entire series in one sitting and I haven’t been the same since (in a good way)
I can only imagine it’s an incredible trip to watch the entire show whilst on shrooms, did the show make more or less sense on shrooms?
Jesus christ talk about a heroic dose
@@harryfromends It made perfect sense after consuming 9 grams of psilocybin spores, too much sense actually
Lmao me and my boy did the same but we binge watch this and robot chicken ....craziest experience lol
There’s gotta be at least 3 people who were sick, had a fever, and was in a lucid state for but a moment and saw this on television and went back to sleep but woke up better.
I’ve seen a few people say that they thought XRA was part of their dream and didn’t exist until they say it years later 🫠
It's not too farfetched that it happened to a lot of kids. Getting sick is common, waking up in the middle of the night is too, pair that with likely watching CN before you passed out and you've got a recipe for it..
Unless you were one of those people who thought Disney/Nick had better cartoons than CN.... If you can call them people..
Xavier embodies the effective altruism movement that sam bankman fried was a part of
And Xavier still manages to do it better
What the literal fuck does Xavier have to in common with that homeless Ronald McDonald
They honestly should bring it back. I feel that the humor and memeworthyness of the show would absolutely draw in tons of popularity both from the fanbase, and the newer generation.
XRA would be immensely popular in the present day, I truly believe if Adult Swim did a special for XRA in 2024 it would help boost numbers quite significantly!
Yeah maybe a little bit less racial stuff tho
I agree, after everything it makes sense now psychologically
@@harryfromends An XRA special would go crazy nowadays. Elevate XRA to the level of Breaking Bad or American Psycho in Zeitgeist catch-up popularity
@@smileyp4535Yeah the Indian episode is reaaally bad in particular
This show requires having a nerd/spiritual/conspiracy theorist brain and multiple watches to actually get it. This shows amazing.
Sounding a lot like Xavier with that first part chief Ahah - but I agree, multiple watches is for the best to get every joke
Nah you can get it the first time around lol but yeah it has some stuff you might not notice on the first watch
@smileyp4535 ya whatever chompsky honk.

Why thank you sir 💫 I love putting little musical numbers in my vids ahah
Can't believe it's gotten so few mentions, that was gorgeous dude
Shakashuri Blowdown was an experience.
Definitely the best episode of the series and truly a unique watching experience!
its funny asf to me that adult swim was clearly made for adults yet still wound up being a childhood cornerstone memory bank for me and most people around my age who are now adults and watched these shows as pre teens.
That "it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas"parody was beautiful 🥲🥲
Thank you sir! It takes a lot of time and effort to do the musical segments so that’s really appreciated! 💫
Glad you mentioned Police Squad! It's the proto-show to AS and most shows that only get six episodes or one season are true of this (Clerks TAS)
Police squad is an all time classic! And you’re absolutely right
Took shrooms for the first time and my friend put on this and Id never seen it before. It was genuinely amazing confusing and funny. Such a weird mix but I loved it so much
I can imagine XRA enhances the trip quite a bit Ahaha
With today's meme culture, the show could of been a bigger hit than it was. It was put out just too early for it all though.
If XRA existed in say 2016 that ideally would’ve been the perfect time, since meme culture was starting to seriously ramp up and there was a surge of edgy content & absurd humour coming to the forefront
@@harryfromends XRA is basically a professional YTP it would have been massive
Yes, but I'm glad it came out when it did. May not have been as beloved at the time, but that is alright, because X:RA coming out when nothing like it had ever really been seen was what made it so good. If they made the show back in 2016 when this shit was big, it would probably not have been made the same way, and probably wouldn't even be the same show. The writers very clearly wanted to blow minds and create something never-before-seen, so I feel it needed to be ahead of its time. Also it probably really wouldn't have been so big in 2016 to be honest, battling Rick And Morty would be really tough with a show like this one. X:RA is destined to be a cult classic and I am happy with that.
"its always tough killing your father" - gzavier
Top tier quote
"I'm a survivor, we're a dying breed" 😭
This type of humor is rare 😂
Simple but effective.
Its so gnostic. The puns are top notch.
I like to think that the creators had a vision from an actual angel named Xavier and he inspired them. So that they would create a world for him to exist in.
Perhaps a sleep paralysis shaman
@@harryfromends *insert "both is good" meme here*

XRA is the only show that genuinely seems perfect for multiverse crossovers!
I love Xavier so much, got into it through co years ago. One of my all time favorites, you did a good job covering it here! Rocking thumbnail too!
Thank you kind sir! I love Xavier as well and really wanted to capture the shows essence with the green skies, since I enjoy the sky theme in general
@@harryfromends You did an amazing job, it makes me super nostalgic for old renderware looking 90's CGI desktop backgrounds, like a proto-vaporwave sort of vibe in an odd way. As an edgy reddit atheist teenager, it also felt extremely validating while I had to suffer through Sadartha in school and then the religious upbringing at home, lmao
I believe you mean: "All to fuel his... Xavier... complex".
Best comment so far
I’ll never forget waking up at like 2:30-3 am one night after an insane after school nap, turned and squinted at my tv, and saw this show. Couldn’t tell you what episode but i just remember being completely confused and mesmerized. I legit just sat up and watched the whole rest of the episode in awe.
I think one of the most interesting parts of this is that a clear component of xaviers character is actually religion, the concept that the world is an evil place and people are inherently evil, and that by being godly or like god, we're actually fending off these evils. These are all very true things, even within the show they are (I.E xaviers abuse by many people); however it's clear most people today don't exactly understand why religions are like that, because most people haven't actually experienced tragedy, so this is someone's interpretation of theological ideals, or rather a parody instead of an interpretation. In other words it's a form of religious propaganda, seemingly coming from someone or people that simply do not know what they are talking about.
That’s very true, and an excellent parody at that!
@@harryfromends sure, the show itself is funny enough, though it's important to acknowledge it for what it is, and where the writer/writers were coming from.
Especially since media like this for the most part was made by an older generation, and while still retaining a similarly aged audience, it's still pretty big on the web making it very easily accessible by children, hence it is actually rather dangerous to just let controversial media go by without actually considering what's being said or quantifying what may happen to said younger audience.
I speak coming from a place most people in my gen are coming from (i'm a millennial btw), having grown up on the internet and having been introduced to it and many rebellious and dark minded figures as a child, and can recognize all the negative ways this affected me; and seeing as most of the people I grew up watching make their content are still around making the same raunchy questionable content, it seems all too common for people to just let all this stuff slide like they don't see what it is, or perhaps they don't care.
Either way, it's a medium for a guy with something to say, it's better to acknowledge what he's actually saying rather than just focusing on the goofy, out there, shock humor the internet adores oh so much.
@@Blak22390maybe people still just enjoy raunchy bigoted humor. I think that's fine.
One the best shows on adult swim for sure. Please make a video of Joe Pera because that was definitely a gem that was taken from us too soon
I love Joe Pera and I would love to make a video on his immense wholesomeness ❤️
All I remember from this show was a scene where Xavier's snake arm ate a bunch of babies.
Anyone else remember the vote for proposition 1231 during the blood cowboy and Indian episode
Vote yes! 🗳️
@harryfromends that has bothered me for years lol me and 10 of my friends watched it when the blood cowboys and Indian episode first came out and only 2 of us remembered the extra 2 or 3 minutes there was video from a bunny slaughter house and mixed in was like a vote for me screen put the speech and words said vote proposition 1231 do your part to keep us safe lmao also something about something would happen been so long I can't remember the whole phrase but makes me wonder was I Brainwashed or was everyone else....... I have watched videos of the episode since but only happened the night it first released so you tell me
Love seeing people find out and or make videos about Xavier it’s a definite favorite
Thank you for making me realize I am not alone in my love of this show.
You are definitely not alone brother, there’s so many people that truly love this show!
I never thought someone would find the deeper meaning behind this show. Excellent job
This looks like a show you’d see in GTA
XRA is esoteric kino for true patricians. 🐍☸️
This is an incredibly apt way to describe XRA!
14 years?!?! 😬
Guess it just didn't feel that long because of all the reruns of it (often had Adult Swim on as 'background noise' while I played MMOs or something)
Yeah it’s been an incredibly long time, and XRA has remained incredibly relevant, which is a testament to how brilliant the writing is!
I'm still finding new jokes and I've been watching since it aired.
Hell yeah i love Xavier, one of the best shows ever
Agreed! Genuinely a masterpiece in absurd humour
Dude, I remember the "I suppose you blame yourself for his death. I know I do."
That sends me every time I hear it. Lmao
anything pffr does is so top tier
Agreed! Wonder Showzen is also elite
when i was younger i had a vivid dream of this main character. after struggling to find any name or show title for years, im now obligated to watch whatever video talks about it
As one of the few Christian scientists, it’s good to be represented in Media in some way. I have all the episodes on Xbox and they seem completely normal when u watch them high for some reason.
DOES ANYBODY KNOW HOW TO GET TO THE LAKE (THE LAKE) (THE LAKE)
One of the best shows, i still quote this show to this day.
XRA is definitely up there with the most quotable shows, most likely because it has about 50 brilliant quotes in every episode Ahah
You’re so productive! I love your channel, keep it up!
Why thank you sir! I wanna keep making content at a good rate that I spend a lot of time on 💫
you should post the christmas song as its own video. i need to put that in a playlist
Never expected a banger Christmas song in a Xavier discussion video but man its awesome.
I watched Xavier when it was on TV, but it wasn't something I was intensely watching and excited about. I watched it, it was fun and cool, but its also just weird. I'm more of a Moral Orel fan. Doesn't feel like I'm on drugs watching that (I don't drink alcohol or do drugs, so yeah).
Firstly thank you! I had to take a 2 hour train to get to a studio and record the song the same night I wrote it, so I really appreciate the fact that you enjoyed the song 💫 and yeah XRA definitely feels like a trip to watch, & Moral Orel has a relatively more relaxed, albeit sometimes depressing approach than XRA
Your voice is stunning. That lil song was amazing im officially requesting a full version.
Thank you! I’m going to start doing more musical segments in the vids 💫
3:04 man 😂😂 did he jump and push the lady out the way of NOTHING when she was already on the sidewalk, not nowhere near the incoming jeep yet he dove to push her out the way and got up looking like he wanted a congratulations and a thank you like he saved her life or something 😂😂
Yes he did ahaha and it perfectly represents the impact Xavier believes he has vs his actual impact
@@harryfromends Right! 😂 And you did a excellent job of translating that scene and essence of the show in your essay! I would sub but I already did that after the Conway Video 😂

It’s my pleasure brother, I think a lot of people believe they imagined XRA Ahaha.
This was one of my favorite shows of all time. I was obsessed with it. I would take psychedelics and watch it like a well rounded member of society.
What was that experience like?
@@harryfromends well I remember laughing so hard I almost couldn’t breath or catch my breath. The weird twisted philosophical humor and stupidness of tht show it just messed me up. Lol. Lol a few other adult swim ones were pretty brilliant or maybe that’s not the word for it but lol
Finally 😮 thank you for covering this amazing show
It’s my pleasure brother! XRA deserves to be covered in detail 💫
Xavier is probably my very favorite Adult Swim show, and it has some serious competition in my book, but it stands out from all the rest.
I got to watch A.S. from the very beginning, Cartoon Planet, Sealab 2021 and Space Ghost got me hooked, they saved my sanity at a very dark time of my life.
I wonder why they don't take risks anymore, that's where the truly great shows came from. I'm gonna go look at their playlist again, wish me luck.
I remember I used to be tripping on acid watching adult swim when I was like 16 and this show would come on at like 4 am. It was always awesome
I can only imagine how truly life altering that must be ahaha!
Glad this video happened. Satisfying. Any time I see a video about some bizarre show, I always think about this one and wonder if the person making said video is aware of it and how much MORE bizarre it was.
XRA truly is a different kind of bizarre 💫
Thats amazing, great essay! I hate that I saw this show on tv but never actually watched it, i dont remember maybe i judged it by its looks and now im pretty disappointed i missed out, definitely gonna try to watch it this week if i can find it

It's so damn good I ended up getting a tattoo for it and I'm still rewatching it years later
Season 1 was criticized for Xaviers voice acting
So in s2 they doubled down

This is one of the most appropriate responses I’ve seen to XRA
"ITS BEGINNING TO LOOK LIKE YOU'VE BEEN CANCELLED" what a banger

My favorite show of all time i desperately long for behind the scenes material like what the storyboards or script they send to animators looks like.
XRA has been having somewhat of a resurgence on TikTok, I feel like with modern meme culture if they brought it back for a new season or two with the exact same writing and style it would kill
Absolutely, XRA in 2024 could 100% work and is something that adult swim should at least think about!
My favorite show of all time. Hands down.
So lucky to have seen this when it aired
That must’ve been such a trip tuning in and seeing Xavier for the first time ahah
loved it as a teen when it came out and i have the entire series on dvd
What’s XRA like on DVD? Does it have commentary from the showrunners?
I love this show so much thank you for talking about it

I watched this show the other day while on shrooms, shit was weirder than normal
That must’ve been an extraordinary trip 🫠
It was, though near the end it got very scary, specifically the last 2 episodes
just watching the show 3 minutes in, is an overload. great show
I’m old… I remember watching and living XRA and Delocated so much when they were on.
Like you said XRA was like a fever dream. I remember watching it but it was so vague in concept. I watched anyway it was loose and widely erratic if you missed a few episodes. Overall it was a show that came on that was eerily amusing and crazy to watch. Enough to love and enough to say it was ok. I didn't hate it. It also wasn't my favorite but I'd watch it cause it was enough to rattle my brain at the time.
The thing I love about XRA in relation to audience reaction is that everyone has a wildly different opinion on how XRA made them feel, but most people agree that the show at least presents some value and/or they enjoyed some bits of the show!
Literally my favoritest show in existence
I have it on DVD. What you didn't mention, is that Xavier is a PFFFR product, same as Wondershowzen, Delocated, The Heart, She Hollers, and Neon Joe. I just wish they all were available on DVD/blu ray.
I love PFFR, it’s just a lot of people have previously mentioned this in XRA vids & I wanted my vid to be a breakdown purely of the show. Also I love Wonder Showzen!
This show took me through some times.
PFFR is god. I got into them with Wondershowzen on MTV, and got into all their older music projects from there.
Such an incredible team & they’ve made loads of 10/10 shows!
I remember I would sneak downstairs to watch tv during the 1am-3am block when I was 10 and this was def my favorite show 🤣 even if I didn’t understand the true depth of it until this video :0 I’m glad others know of it because for years I’ve brought it up to friends hoping they would remember it lol
I saw random clips from this show when I was a kid and for the longest time I could not tell if they were real memories or if they were just some fever dream. This video is legitimately the first time I have found any other reference to this show, and I even got the name! I no longer feel insane trying to find the weird clips I saw
I never knew what the living fuck this show was. When it came out, I was 12 (I swear I was younger) and it baffled me. His physical appearance is so grotesque. Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo was the same way. SuperJail! was confounding, too. Now they are all gems.
(SuperJail! Is amazing. David Wain is the perfect voice for the Warden. Beautiful animation. It inspired me as someone who loved to draw)
Superjail and XRA are both truly treats to watch as audience members, and both rightfully have been gained cult audiences since their cancellation
I love XRA nice video dude
Thank you very much! And I love XRA too 💫
I managed to catch Xavier when it was in its first run. you do not understand how happy I am that there's finally a fanbase for their show
OMG late night core memories of a much to young me watching this
Ahahah I can only imagine how weird this show is to watch when young 🤣
Watching more than once helps understand, it's deeper than what you get by just watching, it requires thought, or even effort. Whether on purpose or by accident, this show deals with the insanity of life in a way that's colorful and cryptic.
I'm so glad Xavier is making a comeback. Hopefully Assy McGee does too.
Adult Swim making an XRA special in 2024 would be incredible!
I feel like Assy McGee was an excuse to get paid to make fart noises
got 5 minutes into this video before pausing and watching both seasons again. luv me some xavier
remind me of the shoe song with mike snow with the the guy having his body modified by British space kids but more tan lol
I couldn't watch it in it's original run because it legitimately freaked me out, but this convinced me to give it another shot!
XRA is 100% worth watching, the last episode freaked me out quite a bit, but even then it’s still tremendous
I woke up to this playing on adult swim and i though i was having a fever dream
If there’s one thing I know about Vernon Chatman and John Lee’s style, it would totally be the wordplay
The wordplay is absolutely on another level, I would love to see towelie go on an XRA type monologue after taking acid as a nod to the show
I also wouldn’t forget about their modern humor out of context too!
this was right around when i first started smoking too.... such a great time yo! 😅🤣
XRA got it's start in a little show called "Wonder Showzen".
As he-bro, a much more toned done version of what XRA would become but still a genius sketch!
