    Wow, holy cow. I just got into Craftworld Eldar as an army (always been into the aesthetic and lore, but havent had the itch to play them on tabletop) the other week, and now RUclips recommends this channel. What a fantastic guide! So many content creators do things like tier lists, which are fine as click bait but don't help players understand how or why a unit is ranked highly, under what circumstances it will perform well and most of all how to join up your choices into a cohesive army with a concrete plan, rather than ending up with a random assortment of units that are efficient individually but that pull in different directions and fail to achieve real in-game goals.

    I'm very interested in your thoughts on Shadow Spectres; I use three units of 5 to deepstrike in, and I try to use them as both trading and objective-nabbing units. I've only had limited success with them though, as they rarely tend to trade favorably and they die too easily to have play for multi-turn objective holding. I wonder if that's because I'm trying to think of them as both target elimination and secondary objective players. Any thoughts on doing a deep dive on Spectres one of these times? Do you basically just think of them as Warp Spiders; there to nab engage and RoD, and avoid any conflict?

    • @WBConcilio
      @WBConcilio  3 года назад +3

      Hi! A Shadow Spectre video is a good suggestion. If your current build isn't working, you might find it more effective to include a single squad and rely on it for target elimination exclusively rather than secondary scoring also. Because of the Blast profile, Spectres are a powerful tool against a variety of targets, but they are fragile for their points and so in some matchups will not perform. You can mitigate this with "fire and fade" and careful deployment, but more than a single unit of 5-7 is too much of a gamble in my opinion.

    • @Frostybonekraka
      @Frostybonekraka 3 года назад +1

      Shadow spectres are amazing !
      I use 2 x5 units 1 to deep strike and one to fly up and bully this that are weaker than my weapon strength
      And using fire and fade to increase there survivability

    I've found that net listing gives me a good basis as to what I want to play. I then have to play the list multiple times to make changes to it so it fits the way I want to play. It takes some time, but I will eventually land on what I like, don't like, and need to change.

    I've been playing a lot of Eldar Narrative games recently and running a heavy corsair focus list. My question to you is if Corsairs with their current rules were legal in competetive, would they be a meta troops choice pick in Craftworld armies. For example I run squads of 5 for 45points. making them the cheapest troop choice while also putting out 20 shots at 24" range. Not to mention you can upgrade them with Dark lances and splinter cannons which I often do.

    • @WBConcilio
      @WBConcilio  3 года назад +1

      Yeah, it's a great question. Full disclosure though: even in narrative casual games, I have not run Corsairs, so I am definitely not an authority on this. (If Corsairs ever become matched play legal, I definitely will try them out; I love the lore.)
      But yes, based on what's in the rules alone, I think you are right. MSU Corsair troop units look really good for their points.

    • @WBConcilio
      @WBConcilio  3 года назад +1

      Ugh- sorry, I only just saw this. Wraithlords are tough at the moment because they are expensive and have no invuln save, but the best build is probably either Starcannons or Brightlances with expert crafters. The glaive looks really cool, but in more competitive games really isn't worth the extra points. The fists hit plenty hard. Don't bother with the flamers.

    Hi Brent! Thank you for the very helpful guides, is there any chance you would do a video on listbuilding at lower point levels? I have a friend that prefers 1k and I find that units sometimes have different value at 1k than 2k. I’d love to hear your thoughts on it.

    The best way I've found to do banshees is 3 squads of 5 in a ynarri detachment. Ynarri doom, the +1 to hit on the charge, and the executioner spam seems to be the only thing that makes them not terrible.
    I think a craftworlds ynarri detachment can fix a lot of fire and fade problems by offering a second fire and fade. The ynarri guide power can help here too.
    The only issue is that ynarri units can't interact with asuryani doom and jinx in any way, so you'd have to make sure you are separating your fire anyways to make the ynarri detachment worthwhile. In other words, if your asuryani dark reapers are able to wipe the jinxed and doomed unit by themselves, it makes sense to have ynarri war walkers fire and fading another unit

    • @Pershoreify
      @Pershoreify 3 года назад +1

      Unfortunately you don't get to fire and fade a craftworld unit and a ynnari unit - the stratagem can only be used once each phase because it has the same name. Sometimes they are differently named though (craftworlds and harlequins both have a stratagem to advance 6" automatically for example), then you can use both in the same phase.

      What cool thematic idea for a list! If you run it with Expert Crafters and Hunters of Ancient Relics, it will be hard hitting- and all those scouts can help score Octarius Data and Engage on all Fronts.
      The place you will run into trouble is primary objective control; nothing here can really take a punch. (keep in mind that Rangers were nerfed at the start of 9th Ed, so no longer have significant durability at range.) At the very least, I would get a Warlock Skyrunner in there to make use of Seer Council and Protect/J

    Great content as usual (your voice is very relaxing whilst painting lol). Got a question as well and would love your opinion: I'm playing against Morty in a local tournament soon (it's my first time though I have a fair amount of experience in 9th). Do you think I'm best of ignoring him completely or should I go in and kill him (as a general game plan).
    As of units in my list that could hurt him: I'm running 3x3 Dark Reapers (with the Tempest Launcher Exarchs), 11 Fusion pistols on Quin Troupes, 2 Wraithseers with Smite and D-Cannons and of course the Death Jester who will make him -2 to move every turn haha
    I haven't played this opponent though one of my buddies did and said he likes to use Morty pretty aggressively.
    Cheers!

    • @WBConcilio
      @WBConcilio  3 года назад +1

      Yeah, it's a good question and frankly the answer depends on what else your opponent is running and how big a threat Morty is to your ability to score.
      On the downside, much of what you have- like those Reapers- can't easily outmaneuver and outrun him. On the upside, the -2 to move is pretty powerful, especially in combination with the "Phantasm" stratagem to trick your opponent into poor positioning on turn 1, (depending on the mission.) If you do go with ignoring him, be careful not to give him easy 7 or 8 inch charges that will move him across the table early. Keeping Morty out of the game for 1 extra turn is usually enough. I think this is probably the play; it's usually my move with both Morty and Magnus. Focus on killing the scoring units- especially Pox Walkers- and win on points.
      If you do decide to kill him, Jinx is essential. The fusion pistols are swingy- they might do it for you, or they might not. Massed Shuriken fire is also pretty good against Morty if you get DOOM on him.
      Best of luck! DG is always a challenging match up.

      @clayson5193 3 года назад +1

      @@WBConcilio Thanks for the reply! He's running 2 Crawlers, Deathshrouds and some Poxwalkers (might have a drone in there as well). I think I'll go with the ignore play.
      The redeploy is a great point! Could set up my main Craftworld units on one side and the Quin Boats on the other... and then just reposition either of them if I get second turn. Or just fly the boats away as they're so fast.

But I also use a 10 elf unit of Dark Reapers that hangs out with my farseer on the back line. I’m facing down space wolves with high invulnerable save and powerful melee. Should I still run both?

      If they have deep striking units you can use F&F on both units if dstrike that unit. There is a weird combo where fire fade the the dragons and you have a gardener within 6 inches of the dark reapers. He deepstrike, you forewarned the reapers and then fire fade them back
