John Lennon may have written the song but John Farnham redefined the song gave it heart. The emotion he pours onto that song and the lyrics totally tells his own life story. ❤❤

John is the best male vocalist/performer of all time. John shows so much respect to his band members, the fans, everyone. John’s voice is so versatile and has such agility and vocal range is seemingly unlimited. I’ve listed to John for over 30 years and his music never gets old. Anything from John is bound to be epic, especially live.

John sold out that venue more than 90 times in his career. Just in one City. He is humble, kind and wonderful and called the Voice for a very good reason. Haven’t yet heard a genre he cannot sing naturally. This song was a Beatles song but John fixed it.
Yes, the older I get the more I appreciate this man. You have to watch his Bio Pic, Finding The Voice to understand why. John started singing at 17 with the wrong manager. He was 38 before he was free to sing his songs his way. He deserves the world to know him and his story will tell you why. It is now on RUclips. Thank you.

Actually, John Lennon wrote the song, but the Beatles sung it at a much faster tempo. John Farnham was teaching himself to play it on the piano and played the chords slowly, so he could get used to them. He thought that the slower tempo suited the lyrics much better, so he rearranged the song. It was a rearrangement that John Lennon said redefined the song.

As an Aussie who has experienced decades of Aussie music (in other words I am not so young), I now truly appreciate just how many wonderfully talented musicians, both solo singers and groups, Australia has produced, while the rest of the world remained largely ignorant of the depth of our extremely talented music scene. So good to see that there is a growing international appreciation of these great talents. As for John Farnham, it is impossible to explain just how loved he is, both for his exceptional voice and talent, but also because he is such a wonderful human.

John is a humble human, despite his fame, and he stayed true to Australian music despite many opportunities to take his music worldwide. Our John is an Aussie icon and legend and we love him. ❤ Even in his 70’s his voice was amazing…check out the Aussie Firefight Australia concert with John, Mitch Tambo, Olivia Newton John and Brian May on “You’re The Voice”. Sadly John had surgery for mouth cancer last year and although he is recovering well, I doubt that we will ever hear him sing again. 😢

I am a heavy rock girl but he has the most magical voice, control, and interaction with everyone around him, and is also just a great bloke! John Farnham's voice has a shimmering transcendence that gives us a wistful glimpse of the truth, beauty and awe that is in the Universe - it is metaphysical. In 100 years' time, Music Schools and Vocal Scholars will still be studying all the many facets of his peerless vocals.
For Australians, Farnham is simply known as "THE VOICE". John may not be the most globally famous singer for ordinary people - but nearly every internationally famous musician knows exactly who John is, and what he can do. It is an easily defensible argument that John is the GREATEST SINGER IN THE HISTORY OF RECORDED MUSIC. There may have been someone better before recordings, but we can't hear them!
For power, folks will cite "Pavarotti" - nope. Australians have heard John sing in concert halls WITH NO MIC (just look at how far away the mic is from his mouth in this clip - sometimes over half a metre - with a full Symphony Orchestra just behind him). John has sung Opera to critical acclaim with Anthony Warlow in Australia. Around the piano at rehearsals, his band members tell of having their "heads blown off" from his sheer power. And he has maintained that power night after night over a 50-year career. At 70, he sang his songs in the SAME KEY as when he was 20.
For technique and agility, folks will cite "Whitney Houston" or "Celine Dion" or "Mariah Carey" - nope. If you listen to John's mellissma (fast vocal runs), they are faster and more accurate than any of these icons.
But even more importantly, he is a gentle, compassionate, dynamic and wickedly funny human being. He makes space for his backup singers to perform solo - right in the middle of his show (who does that?). You leave his concerts absolutely exhausted from crying in wonder one minute, then the next - side splitting laughter from his crowd interactions and Mother-in-Law jokes. Early in his career he did stage musicals, and has the comedic timing of the best standups.
Millions of Australians wish John peace and continued recovery. And we thank him for the beauty and happiness he has brought to our lives.

Hi Deb, it would be an honour. What I was trying to do (completely inadequately) was to convey the unmatched technical ability John has achieved as a singer, his skill as a live “entertainer”, and then his beauty just as a human being. I came to the conclusion that any combination of words at all was simply inadequate for such a task. But we can’t let that stop us from telling people all about him, can we? Cheers, B.

This concert was advertised as John and his Big Band in typical Aussie understatement, it's a 100+ piece orchestra for crying out loud. lol
This song is one of the last songs that he would sing at the end of the night after he had already sung his heart out for nearly 3 hours.
Some have pointed out that this particular recording of the concert was closer to 2 hours of actual singing during the TV special, but it was also on the 4th or 5th night that he had sung like this.
Either way, it was one of multiple nights that he did this on January 4-10, 1989, so his voice is still worthy of the accolades.
Not many other singers can belt like that for even 2 or 3 nights without a rest.
And besides picking at the exact details or this exact performance, Farnsey also has a way of getting deep into the emotions of your soul.
A couple of songs worth checking have been mentioned below, plus these are worth a look also.
The reason you haven't heard of him is because the US music industry is a closed little club. When John Farnham went to the US they didn't know which genre to put him in so his US promotions manager got him a couple of gigs in a little jazz club, where the MC introduced him as Jack Phantom. Couldn't even be bothered getting his name correct, so being a bit disheartened he wandered home to concentrate on his loyal fan base. The experience did give him inspiration to write a couple of good songs about missing his family, like this one.
    -Burn For You..
    ruclips.net/video/4PPvOhPspEA/видео.html
    -Angels..
Notice how he holds the mike below his chest, both mikes are a metre away, which he does all the time to not drown out the other singers.
JF with Lisa Edwards, a top singer in her own right, and one of John's back up singers for 20+ years.
    ruclips.net/video/5_2NJRIdBO8/видео.html
    -Amazing Grace..
To show the calibre of his other back up Singers, showing you have to be good in your own right, just like Lisa.
This is Vanetta Fields and Lindsey Field.
    ruclips.net/video/_x6N94OEkZQ/видео.html
    -Please Don't Ask Me..
This one with Olivia Newton John, who we have recently lost. John has also had major cancer surgery including removal of part of his jaw and we may not hear him sing again. So let's enjoy this one as well..
    ruclips.net/video/2uV_tZODfK8/видео.html
-When Something Is Wrong With My Baby....
And even when he is singing with one of the most powerful voices on the planet, Jimmy Barnes, he still put the mike away from his face and closer to Jonny Diesel on guitar.
    ruclips.net/video/AU_bCchDWF4/видео.html
    Or this version.
    ruclips.net/video/RAlFHSPLHpo/видео.html
    -When The War Is Over…
Possibly one of his greatest vocals.
    ruclips.net/video/lfWrXc5eN8g/видео.html
    -Or is the greatest.
    Gethsemane..
    ruclips.net/video/k5woMZtClhI/видео.html
    -How about a mike test.
He has the power and ability to distort microphones, amps, and get speaker stacks jumping. So this sort of setting up the venue test is a must. Lol
    Black Dog.
    ruclips.net/video/F2Yi6TVi-sU/видео.html
Besides having the best voice ever, JF can adjust his tone, pitch, volume, to match the person he is singing with to either match them or sing just under them depending on who's the head line act, he will even back himself down when he is the head line to give others their moment to shine, and if my ears were sensitive enough, I wouldn't be surprised if he could vary his vibrato, timbre and all of those other things that voices can do so he could accentuate the other singers.
