- A common question I often hear is whether or to book a guarantee (GTY) stateroom? And there really is no right or wrong answer. A lot depends on your wants and needs in a cruise stateroom and what your priorities are. For many people, they would NEVER book a guarantee. For others, location of their stateroom does not matter and always book a guarantee if available. And for families like our own, it really depends on various factors. Is the cost savings minimal or significant? Is it a small or large ship? Etc.
So today I share with you some pros and cons of booking a guarantee stateroom on Royal Caribbean. Some of these tips could apply to other cruiselines, but I made this video thinking specifically of Royal Caribbean.

I booked a gty balcony on the Mariner of the seas for Sept this year and already got a assigned balcony and its a really good location! So it worked out for me!
That's wonderful. Our assignment for Icon wasn't what we wanted, but its still not bad. Plus we save about 2k by not picking our stateroom.

I have read if you get a room you don't like on embarkation day to go down to guest services and sometimes if you early they will switch you. Worth a shot!
You usually get assigned well before boarding day. You can usually switch your stateroom then within the same category.
After you board, highly unlikely.
I have only sailed on Carnival and Norwiegen. Thank you for the info.
On Royal Caribbean, you can find out your assigned guaranteed room # right after you check in! You upload your RC Set Sail pass to your Apple Wallet and the bar code will show the numbers under the bar code. The last 4 to 6 digits is your room #!

Thanks so much for the tip in your video about adding our SetSail Passes to Apple Wallet to see those 4 numbers that will likely be our cabin. I could not see anything other than "GTY" and "Reprint" (as well as deck 8 when I looked at the SetSail passes in the app on my iPhone) regarding our cabin number until I went through that process. Since we are about 40 days out, I am hoping we will get a confirmation on our cabin soon. 🚢
Glad it was helpful! I have found that you will likely be assigned between 28-30 days out. Once officially assigned, you can move your stateroom to one available in the same category. That's what we did.

Great video, wonderful info! I just found a video earlier today on "add to wallet" trick. Oct 23rd can't get here fast enough! We were originally in Ocean view but few weeks later we decided balcony would be fun so I looked and for kicks checked Jr. Suite prices, and like you example for GTY in Jr. Suite it was cheaper then picking balcony for reg balcony room. So we grabbed it. Wondering if there is any way to find your room before check in date?
No way to find out before check in date, that I am aware of .

I've booked a guarantee neighborhood balcony on the Symphony of The Seas, and we will either get a boardwalk or Central Park stateroom. I'm hoping for a boardwalk

so if i have a D4-GRT ocean view... at least according to my final payment, but on the Icon.. i may get an interior balcony, central park balcony?
Not sure. The guarantee categories for balconies are XN or XB. D4 I think is an OV balcony category.
Is there a possibility of getting bumped from your cruise with a GTY? first time sailing with RC.
Possibility, yes, but it’s like a .00001% chance. I only heard of it happening a handful of times and for an extreme circumstance, such as a block of rooms becoming unavailable due to a maintenance issue. But it’s not like an airline that oversells their flights because people cancel.
I am so glad I came across your video. We booked a balcony guarantee on Symphony via online about a month ago. The cruise isn’t until October of this year. When I came across your video, I wondered what type of balcony guarantee we had because we didn’t remember having an option to choose from neighborhood or ocean view. We called and sure enough, they had us booked for XN. We got it changed to XB, so thank you thank you!!!!

Booked a suite guarantee. What have you heard in your experience when certain room are already booked up in that category are you chances better getting room that are still available closer to sailing or do they just save rooms?
I think they save rooms. Ex. The stateroom we were assigned last month didn’t show available for months before we were assigned
I wonder because it went from saying junior suite guarantee to deluxe suite guarantee. The price went up just a bit more so wonder if that means the lowest in the next class up? Have you heard anything about that?

Hey Shannon question: why don't you do a 1hr video chat with viewers every week live. I think you would do amazing and have people donate money to you guys in a super chat like everyone does. You could also do a product line that you back and sell it every week on your show. Most of the video blog people on cruise videos all have a certain thing they do. With all the new first time cruisers out their you helping with rooms i think would go over big answering questions live. I know you helped us alot and so many times i wish i knew more about a certian ship. Just a thought...we would definitely tune in every week to watch. Take care.
Hi! I have thought about it and it is definitely a goal. I don't think I have enough consistent viewers, but I think that could come with a consistent live. My main issue is time. I work FT and also a wife and mother. So I film sometimes late at night or whenever I can find the time. So I don't have a consistent time in my week to do something like that. If you are booking directly through Royal? They don’t show it online. I find that it’s usually an XN (many don’t realize this). I use a TA and they tell me.
can you do royal upgrade if booking a GTY?
Yes. However, if you bid and then you are assigned your stateroom before winning any, your bids will be cancelled and you will have to bid again.
Thought guaranteed rooms aren’t guaranteed anymore….you might show up and someone else got your room thru a charter group.
No, that is not accurate. There have been a few instances of something happening and rooms not being available. However, these are extremely rare and the guests have been compensated very welll
@@ShannonFordoh, basically the media lied about the situation. The way I see guaranteed, even if I can tolerate it, it is okay…some people try to get a room in guaranteed by suggesting not to get a room near the aft if possible.
