Nice presentation. My no1 Black Crowes album is The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion. The reason is that this album showed more of their creativeness, southern rock blues side. It's a perfect album. Shake your Money Maker was an amazing debut album for the Crowes that made them famous worldwide and people know the songs of this album even if they don't know who the Black Crowes are. 3rd best album in my opinion is By your Side. This album has very good southern rock music, with one of the Best Black Crowes song which is HorseHead. It's just great powerful album with great songs like : Go Faster, and Kickin' My Heart Around. Nice job, greetings from Thessaloniki - Greece.
The hugely mind-blowing Amorica at mere number five?! And it's even surpassed by Lions and By Your Side, who would've thunk! This world is surely diverse in a fun and positive way LOL
Love how subjective art is. Nice rankings! Here are mine: 1. Amorica 2. The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion 3. Lions 4. Three Snakes and One Charm 5. Shake Your Money Maker 6. Before the Frost...Until the Freeze 7. By Your Side 8. Warpaint
Great vid! Been a big fan ever since the debut. Missing a few of the newer albums that ranked towards the bottom of the list but will probably pick them up soon to give them a listen.
For a short time in the 90’s they were the “it” band. Riding the high of Shake Your Money Maker into Southern Harmony, they were everywhere. IMO really helping to bring rock back to its roots.
'Three Snakes' is awesomely intricate, the guitar work is outstanding. 'Three Snakes' and 'Amorica' are my favs. Then 'Southern Harmony'. Then 'Lions', 'Shake', 'By Your Side', 'Warpaint' and 'Before the Frost'.
Love this video Brendon. Huge Black Crowes fan here. I really enjoy the Lost Crowes album(s). I know it isn't considered a real studio release but I really enjoy it, especially the Band Session disc.
Hi Brendon!!! Back in the day when the debut album was released it was so cool hearing a newer band taking the classic Stones/Faces sound and bringing it back, still one of my favorite records, liked also the alternative mix of "Hard to Handle" with the horn section..... Btw had no idea "Before the Frost..." was their last studio album, thought it was "Warpaint". cheers
because its number 2 on mine after Amorica which is not only The Black Crowes finest album it one of the greatest albums ever made...Southern harmony is so close behind 🙂
Man, I remember when SYMM came out, it was th absolute most refreshing thing in Rock/Hard Rock genre in soooo long! I was so burnt out on th refined, glamour sound th record labels were pumping out. It's to my regret I never got to see them live. Great vid, man!👊🍻
I've still got my double vinyl of Before the Frost I got during that tour. Great album. But my favorite has to be a tie between Amorica and Southern Harmony. Great video! There's something good in every Crowes album
By Your Side (1999) is still my fave, and it helps that I saw The Black Crowes live on this tour. Not sure how the rest of the dates went, but they played at a university basketball court in Maine, and we sat on bleachers. Between the venue and the band's look and their jammy set, it felt like seeing a show back in the '70s. It was actually really fun. :)
I know it’s a live album, but the best Black Crowes album is Live at the Greek with Jimmy Page. I loved that mix of Zep and Crowes songs with Jimmy adding some great guitar. It’s an album I’ve played many times over the years.
First time I saw them live was in Toronto at the Canadian National Exhibition. The first album hadn't been released very long. They opened for Warrant, Aerosmith and Metallica. Great show
Nice ranking video, my top could swap between the debut & Southern Harmony on any given day followed with By Your Side & Three Snakes. I would say i tend to return to By Your Side more often not though, such a great record, the production on it 👌
I love listening to your posts, always interesting and have led me to many bands previously unknown to me for which I’m very grateful. My only criticism on this post would be , maybe a different tag other than “in and of itself “ 4-5 times today!!! Haha 😂 time to look for a new saying Brendon. 🤣🤣
SHAMC is their best album. It is a masterpiece. The recording process of basically being live, 1 take recordings is in large part why. The album has that concert feel and so many of the songs are just amazingly good, yet diverse. 2nd to me is Amorica. Sonically and stylistically it has several all time greats on it (Wiser Time, Descending, Gone, Ballad in Urgency, etc) all fantastic efforts in their own rights. SYMM is 3rd to me but I can see how people would say its 1. Opened the door to the band and served as a catalyst for what was to come. Full of hits, greats licks and depth (She Talks to Angels, etc). Saw them in 2022 for this albums tour and I have seen the Crowes several times in the 90’s and they still rock! ☮️
Very interesting album ranking Brendon. You like Lions more than Amorica!... never heard that before haha. Respect your opinion tho, thanks for making the video :)
Once again great review . The records are difficult to rank (other than SHMC being tops ) . Each record has some brilliant timeless songs . Things like Girl From Pawnshop , Lickin. , I Ain’t Hiding , Descending . Their greatest hits record isn’t even close in my opinion as a fan from shake
At any given moment Almost All Of Black Crowes Albums Have been My Fave.. Love them All.. In fact a Fair Argument can be Made that the B.C.s could be the Greatest American " ROCK" band ever !! - forgive me ZZ Top + Allman Bros + Grateful Dead. But The Crowes Have a Huge catalog & its Flawless...
'Southern Harmony...' is my favorite BC album. And "Sometimes Salvation" off that one is still my favorite BC song (amongst many standouts in their catalog). Thought you might also bring up the controversy surrounding the 'Amorica' album cover. I remember having to hunt for a CD with its original cover, because most "big box" music sellers only carried the censored version. Last, have you heard The Magpie Salute (Rich Robinson's side band with former BC members)? Definitely going for a BC vibe (Magpie = Crow). And the singer sounds a LOT like Chris. Worth a listen.
The original cover of Amorica was picture from July 1976 Hustler magazine. Methinks was maybe copyright issue for using image as not really too over the top. Can't really go wrong with any Black Crowes, imo. Thanks Brendon. 💯
Great Black Crowes countdown Brendon. I only picked up By Your Side a few years ago to my dismay and was amazed at how rocking it was, I had gone straight to Lions. BYS and SH are my favourites. I remember the day I walked into my local town to purchase SH on cassette from HMV. CD's were twice the price of cassettes in 1992. That live Crowes CD on your top shelf immediately caught my eye! Will be looking it up on Discogs.
By Your Side and 3 Snakes came out at a time when I was focused on other things in my life so never really listened to them. I remember being disappointed with Warpaint, so only had 2 goes at it. I like Before the Frost and Lions. Gonna cheat here, so my top album is a three way tie between debut, Southern Harmony and Amorica!

"Southern Harmony" is #1 for me. I also like the more laid-back sound of "Amorica" and I don't think there's a bad album in their catalogue. Cheers.
In no galaxy is Lions or By Your side better than Amorica
That might be true if we only took into account galaxies, but my opinion takes into account the whole universe. 😂
No way. I agree. Amorica is easily at worst their 2nd best album behind SHAMC.
My favorite album IS “By Your Side”
You've finally done an album ranking. I think you should make more video's like that. It's always very interesting. Take care 🙂
Love how subjective art is. Nice rankings!
Here are mine:
1. Amorica
2. The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion
3. Lions
4. Three Snakes and One Charm
5. Shake Your Money Maker
6. Before the Frost...Until the Freeze
7. By Your Side
8. Warpaint
Great show By Your Side is My Favorite . Great Band.
Completely agree with your list. Though, it is Croweology that I listen to the most these days
I return to Croweology a lot as well. That album came out really good and was a fitting end at the time.
Great vid! Been a big fan ever since the debut. Missing a few of the newer albums that ranked towards the bottom of the list but will probably pick them up soon to give them a listen.
A great breakdown of the catalog. The Crowes were huge even in Europe in the early 90's.
For a short time in the 90’s they were the “it” band. Riding the high of Shake Your Money Maker into Southern Harmony, they were everywhere. IMO really helping to bring rock back to its roots.

Excellent video! “Southern Harmony” is my favourite from the BC. “Remedy” is my favourite song from the BC.

Had you heard Before The Frost or is it new to you?
@@BrendonSnyder New to me, thought it was "another" thing like a comp or an accoustic live set....
I don’t see how Southern Harmony isn’t #1 on everyone’s list. It’s a complete, perfect album from top to bottom
because its number 2 on mine after Amorica which is not only The Black Crowes finest album it one of the greatest albums ever made...Southern harmony is so close behind 🙂

Listened to the amorica album today for first time in 20 years and much better than I recall and ranks number 1 for me.
It certainly is a great album.
Warpaint is #1 for me.
Another fantastic album ranking, how about pretty please an album ranking of whitesnake? Or all things Coverdale
I’m waiting for the proposed new Whitesnake album that David has said will come out after the tour. That way it will be up to date.
The first album I hurd from them was Lions. I was 2 years old! The reason is because our black Keys album was missing lol
Thank goodness it was missing so you could get turned onto The Black Crowes. 👍
@@BrendonSnyder lol yeah! Also my favorite album is three snakes one charm, it's very nostalgic to me.
Amorica is the by far the greatest Black Crowes album and in my top 5 greatest albums of all time.
It’s by far got one of the best album covers ever! 👍
Does before the frost actually come with 2 CDs? Just curious cuz I can't find that anywhere. Three snakes is my favorite!
No it’s a single CD of just Before The Frost. After The Freeze is a digital download only and a code is provided in the Before The Frost album.
@@BrendonSnyder oh, now I see. Thanks
I know it’s a live album, but the best Black Crowes album is Live at the Greek with Jimmy Page. I loved that mix of Zep and Crowes songs with Jimmy adding some great guitar. It’s an album I’ve played many times over the years.
Yes it’s a great album indeed. I wish they had written and recorded a studio album.
Agreed
Southern harmony is my favorite and sometimes salvation is my favorite song. Killer video
First time I saw them live was in Toronto at the Canadian National Exhibition. The first album hadn't been released very long. They opened for Warrant, Aerosmith and Metallica. Great show

exellent ranking Brendon
Thank you Thomas. I’m glad you enjoyed it.
By your side always underrated, so good that you have it at 3.

I’d really love it if they would release a Deep Cuts type album to complement their Greatest Hits collection. They have so many good songs.
Wait, so Before the Frost now includes all the Until the Freeze tracks on CD?

Wow high praise Spaghetti!
Amorica is #1, followed closely by Three snakes and then Southern harmony.
I can see the case made for those too.

all their albums are pretty solid, but to me...the top two are easily Amorica and Southern Harmony
Like you said, they’re all really good.
#1 The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion
#2 Shake Your Money Maker

Amorica is my favorite album
Amorica all day is their best work
👍
🙏👍
Your Top Three are the ONLY albums by the band that I like...
Lions is one of the worst albums I have ever heard. Zero stars. The first three albums are classic.
I was not a huge fan of their last two as whole albums. I loved some tracks from both, but as a whole was weak compared to their 90s albums.
…. Never heard of them
Lions and by your side better than 3 snakes and Amorica? Never, ever.
It’s just an opinion Luke.
@@BrendonSnyder absolutely. And my opinion is also an opinion. Still anybody that is a crowes fan, is all good by me
Who is this guy
Who are you? 😂
