I was just lucky to get signed up here. This interview leaves me incredibly well-informed, especially regarding capability in Ukraine and what the USAF is doing there… A massive word of appreciation, Mooch. Thank you.
Mooch, your channel ranks at the very top of the youtube air power offerings!! This interview, and all others with Justin Bronk are the best I've ever heard spanning a wide range of topics. Thanks!!
These conversations over the last couple months have been great! I think most people who watch your channel do so because they want the very detailed high level conversation about different aspects, stories etc about the military. And having a long conversation where you really discuss specifics of the topic with very knowledgeable guests is why we’re here. There aren’t many channels that go into depth like this. Keep up the great work award, love the channel!
I discovered Ward Carroll randomly when I was looking at F14’s on RUclips. Then I also saw he loves Gibson Les Pauls….I mean, can it get any more badass than that?? It’s unbelievable how gorgeous the F14 was….Nearly 50 years later and it still looks modern/futuristic. I wish filmmakers would find a bunch of former F14 pilots and get them together and do a documentary about them. See how their lives were then and fast forward to now with all the stories in between.
Ward Carroll and Justin Bronk, I thoroughly enjoyed all your videos and the factual and accurate data you have provided. I was the designer of the F-14 A wing center section and helped configured the same structure on the Tornado for MBB. I participated on the classified ATA with Northrop in 1985-88. I became the F-14D Engineering Director in the early 1990, but I was given the lead task as the Chief Engineering for the Grumman-Boeing-Lockheed AFX in 1991-1993. I was also involved on the X-29A (1981-82) and later (1994-1996) in the McAir JSF (which was eliminated). Then Boeing bought out McAir and I worked on the X32 A and B. I retired in 2005 after completing the X-37 development. Lately, I have developing on my own a version of an all aspect stealth attack aircraft (broad band approach). I will not show my concept publicly for security reasons, but would share some of my thinking/approaches with both of you. Let me know if you are interested and how to communicate with you. Carl A. Paez
Herro Carl I am not Chinese Communist Party or Peoples Liberation Army Air Force. Prease send all your designs to discuss for benefit of glorious Western capitalism and democracy.
Hey Carl, probably not the response you were expecting, but I’m in the research phase of a video project about the F-14… call it an “in defense of” or “justice for” kind of angle. I aim to make the case that it was essentially our second air superiority fighter and retired far too soon. So far I’ve compiled a lot of info from pilots, including Iranian, guys who went head to head against 15’s, 16’s and 18’s and bested them, you name it. Talked with some regarding maintenance and dispelling some of the BS out there, it really wasnt THAT bad. Who I haven’t talked to are people behind development, upgrades and even proposed upgrades. The D model did not get a fair shot and in sufficient numbers from what I’ve read, and the youngest airframe eventually shredded was only 15 years old. Anyway, I’d love to talk to you if you’re willing to contribute even just some emails to this project. I just want to change the narrative and do right by the old girl once and for all. Shoot me a message on my channel if interested, thanks!
@@30AndHatingIt No, that is NOt what I was expecting to hear. My aim was to contact Ward Carroll, but he has not contacted me. Too bad! I am not selling anything!
Hi Mooch. Justin should be everyone’s go to guy for aerospace strategy and procurements. As for the A-10 debate. I doubt it’s survivability in a seriously contested battle space . Apache can do immediate response for the grunts but given what has happened to the Ka-25s Ukraine even that becomes dubious..
Excellent and highly informative, as all of the updates have been including Mr. Bronk. I wanted to throw some additional out there: *after* watching and "liking" this video folks could check out the video "Why were we so wrong about Russia?" on the "Military history not visualized" YT channel, wherein he speaks with an eastern european journalist/analyst who provides a genuinely eye opening account of the actual status of the Russian military prior to the invasion, and its really worth folks giving it a listen/view. Look forward to future updates here - keep up the good work man.
Really enjoy Mr. Bronk's insight. With the issue of range, I do still wonder what could have been if the Air Force had pursued the proposed variations of the Northrop YF-23 or the FB-22 for deep strike missions to replace the Strike Eagle.
The YF-23 couldn't fit JDAMs in its weapons bays. It would be even less useful for deep strike than the F-35 or F-22. The FB-22 would be excellent though - that was meant to replace both the F-15E and the B-1.
I find it interesting that Justin said the Air Force would be willing to keep the A-10 in its inventory if the Army would pay for it. I remember around 1993 when the Air Force first talked about getting rid of the A-10, and the Army said it would take the A-10, then. Ever so protective of its exclusivity over jet-propelled fixed-wing assets, the Air Force said, "No, we'll keep it." Fast forward to around 2013/14, and the Air Force starts talking about getting rid of the A-10, again. Maybe it's time for it to just let the Army have the platform.
Agreed! If the F-35 is so much more capable, they shouldn't feel threatened by a sister service taking over the (allegedly) vastly inferior A-10. Of course that will never happen for the reasons mentioned. The Air Force can't let anyone chip away at its current direct support ground attack role.

What he said was right, but I don’t know if he knows about the other capabilities of the SAR and its lasers. There’s a few other modes that it can use on the SAR, and it’s laser capabilities go far behind just lasing for hellfires. And I think those capabilities are the force multipliers. Not the ability to just launch hellfires. That’s really a secondary, if not tertiary capability. Primary is the ISR capability. Especially if they have the HD camera suite.
