Ran around with Jerry in Europe during his hitch hiking trip. I remember about ten of us is a tiny house on the island of Formentara off Barcelona all banging on whatever instruments we could get our hands on. Quite a night...
This is one of the most FASCINATING interviews I’ve seen in a long time! Absolutely mesmerizing, listening to Jerry talking about Muddy and his band. Jerry is an absolute master storyteller, as well as a harp player!
I lent him my fender super reverb when he was in Fort Collins Colorado because his shorted out, and I got to sit in with the band, Willie bigeyes Smith Calvin Jones Pinetop Perkins and Jerry Portnoy, what memories😐
That was fabulous. Jerry told me many of the same stories during lessons at his apartment. He really is such a kind generous spirit, and one hell of a player
Where'd ya get those shoes, Jerry's classy dresser nowadays I remember him playing in T shirt n maybe red pants. Better look now. What an articulate man, his metaphors & word pictures he sounds so educated! he really makes this one best interviews I ever heard. Thanks. Ciao

Mr. Scheneke Thanks for " breakdown"... I do have a problem ..sorry..but Eric Clapton? I wouldn't say he would be included with " knowing harp/blues would be included in his " epiphany".. But respect your opinion.
Jerry mentions ...THE CALL... Back in 72 my lil brother then 17 in Santa Cruz Calif. went and played Little Walters " Juke" on his harp as loud as he could in restroom near where Band was taking a break....shortly some guy came and said. " Muddy would like to talk with ya.". Well he went in just over joyed just to meet the " Greatest"...Muddy said " y'all sound pretty good..how'd ya like to play a set?. Bro told me he broke out in a sweat..."Yes sir Mr Morganfield " he respectfully told Muddy. They played " Caledonia " & a instrumental. To this day years later my brother plays around Frisco professionally, w/various bands ...all from a " SUMMONS FROM THE KING".....brother's on RUclips under " Johnny Long at SF Wharf" ....Kindly follow the " lead" ...Thanks for interview. PAOLO. L.
At 34:00, the barely-coherent Portnoy disses blues great, Eric Clapton as just another rock star. This after Eric rescuing the bum from the unemployment line. Talk about the dog biting the hand of the master what fed him.
Legend!! I love his style! No complicated.Pozdeav iz Srbije

First heard of this cat off of From the Cradle album 30 years ago.

What a character and one hell of a cool guy. And a fantastic harp player!!
Man! I wish I had a deep voice tone like his!

Thank you! Shared on Google+, November 25, 2018
Nice
Paul Butterfields name never came up? Kim
Wilson came out of Mp;s/St Paul. Met Jerry at the Blues Saloon in St Paul. Nice man.
Says he was born in Chicago... in 1941?
What a sorry crowd for such a huge blues star and such fantastic stories! Crap crowd for one of the kings of the harp.
It matters little. Who are you listening to, Portnoy or the audience?

You really must think before you make silly statements TR.Jim.Liverpool.
Clapton got nothing on the real deal
Relax, TR, it ain't about you, or your fanboy obsession with Clapton.
TR Was Here: Talk about "barely coherent" - wtf you talkin' 'bout??? 🤔
