This is so... accurate. When you first feel passionate about something as a child, you think, you'll SWEAR you will work on it until the very end. But as you are growing up, you keep your passions, but you just think they are less realistic. When you finally get a job, real life has tried to change your perspective on everything at that point, and you end up agreeing with everyone about how silly your old interests were. You think those pieces of memory were shit because that's what society has told you to think, but deep down, you keep those same passions, and you think about them the same way you thought about them as a child. This video is about realizing that instead of trying to cover them up, you should just embrace them. At least that's what I think. Off-topic, but I really want to make a piano cover for this. I think it'd be cool.

it's sad that Scrapbook abandoned his passions when school got really stressful because hobbies can be a source of joy during a pretty overwhelming time of life. but he left them behind because they were too "silly" or "childish" even though it was something that genuinely made him happy. seeing him reconnect with his passions at the end was wonderful, because you should never be ashamed of something harmless that brings you happiness! 🧡
I love katy's concept or storyline or smth, first charcoal has been crushed because everyone hates her and her inside voices act up, then pistachio help encourage her, then bismuth, telling her to continue her passion of both chemistry and art no matter the voices in her head(at least thats what charcoal said?)then comes scrapbook, he was a small RUclipsr, then school and work made him less and less more into making videos. Years later, he has regreted making vids(because of the line"i've been held back by this stupid sh!t") then bismuth later encourage to embrace the past and try to connect the past and present. What i mean is, that they are using their own encouragement to help other aim for their dream.
i love how when scrapbook progressively gets more closed off and less willing to be himself, his bracelet breaks and he has a lock on his book! Not only is he closeting himself again, but he’s also locking away his feelings and his past from others.

this object animation is truly heartbreaking in my opinion, from it showing that the old times and the happy times will never leave your side, no matter how broken you have truly become. I was super annoyed at this exact thing when making a piano cover of this song, haha. I think young scrapbook finishes his thing in 21 beats and adult scrapbook's in 22, but the last beat of adult scrapbook lines up harmonically with the start of young scrapbook's next line.
Lemme rant real quick (I know nobody asked but still) Yeah this is freaking epic Lois. I think one of the inevitablities of growing up is how things turn more complex, there isn't just simply feeling sad or happy as you would in your childhood; now its all about finding meaning, balance, all that dumb stuff. So its always sad to look back and feel nostalgic for the past, where things were simple. Sometimes you even yearn for a day you can just feel sad, just sad and nothing else, just to feel what it was like when you were a kid. And of course, this complexity places more stress on our brains, and coupled with rising demands to go get a job or whatever, yeah its like sometimes you're zooming so fast that all you need is just a small pebble to throw you off your path, leaving you stumbling and eventually faceplanted on the ground and stuff. Its always tough (at least for me) to acknowledge your past self is well, still you in every sense of the way. Sometimes I think of my past self as a completely different person, seeing how different my life is now compared to back then. But yeah, this animation really reminded me that no matter how hard it is, you need to find ways to connect, and embrace your past, and yeah this video is a masterpeiece lol. Thank you for coming to my ted talks yap session (if you even read to this point).
I absolutely love the extremely flexible time signature! It loves to swap from 4/4 to 7/8 intermittently, and I feel like that 'whiplash' is used to great effect here! There's also the half-time segment that stays in 4/4 to keep you grounded and steady until the conflict starts to resolve. Plus, multimedia video is just the best. Good job! I don't know any other songs or videos that have quite this same essence, and your creativity really shows!
This is amazing. It reflects my childhood really well. When I was little, I did so many things which genuinely made me happy, but 3 of the most memorable things I did was conlanging, writing stories and stuff in English and in another language, and also drawing. I abandoned those things until now because I thought these were silly and useless projects. Then I found the art community, the conlang community, and also I found fanfictions online which reminded me of those things I did in the past, so I decided to start trying those things. And here I am.

i love it the only thing taht made me caught off guard was scrapbook saying a swear im not sensitive to swears, but in the BFDI community. its sometjing people used to say alot but, not a reason to have in use i always thought that scrapbook had 2 arms but, seeyimg him being armless and having one arm is somethimg complicated if it was irl i love this series, and so does the creator. the creator was a massive nostalgia to my childhood since i was 5 - 6. i love BFDI ❤
Man, this hit hard, especially the part about how “childhood was not made to last”. It really shows how that whimsy and passion fades away slowly as we get older. Even if we can’t chase all of our old dreams, there’s no reason we shouldn’t hold onto those memories if they make us feel good. I really hope we get more Scrapbook content in the future, I really worry for him and Glitter, but hopeful this hints at a happy ending for him in the future.

Then they swat away the memory of their younger self makes it feel more powerful and more emotional. 3:31 the shredded paper makes it look like a jail. Like they’re trapped in their own head. I just watched this video, and I can guarantee that it is one of the best songs I've ever heard out of everyone in the OSC. I can obviously relate to Scrapbook himself too, since our interests are very similar and our lives are starting to get complex as we grow up. Sometimes, I think of most of my childhood memories, and I never let go of them because I find them very satisfying for myself. In Scrapbook's words, I hope I can make some new memories...

This song really mirrors us about the world we are currently living, the technology, the massive work, and school burnout really sucks. But we can't forget that we could still be happy at some moment, because happiness isn't just a feeling, it's a thing that exists inside of yourself. You can't escape happiness. The thing that holds you back is a huge wall of stress, you need to break through and form the new happy you. Bismuth's comeback really sweetened my heart, it's always lovely to hear her tunes. The details shown here are so beatiful! The visuals and animations were so cute and good-looking, it would make anyone cry. Glad to see some sort of a pattern: Charcoal helped Bismuth and Bismuth helped Scrapbook. Also we see that the glitches on character's eyes won't completly went off by the end of the video, but in Scrapbook's case it went off, like it his problems were solved now - not after the video. The eyes showing there is just accepting that everything will be fine, you don't be ashamed of yourself. It's just so neat and sweat that if you figure out the hidden meaning of this videos, you can get the context, the plot, the problems our characters are facing and what they do to resolve them. Yeah this is freaking epic Lois. I think one of the inevitablities of growing up is how things turn more complex, there isn't just simply feeling sad or happy as you would in your childhood; now its all about finding meaning, balance, all that dumb stuff. So its always sad to look back and feel nostalgic for the past, where things were simple. Sometimes you even yearn for a day you can just feel sad, just sad and nothing else, just to feel what it was like when you were a kid. And of course, this complexity places more stress on our brains, and coupled with rising demands to go get a job or whatever, yeah its like sometimes you're zooming so fast that all you need is just a small pebble to throw you off your path, leaving you stumbling and eventually faceplanted on the ground and stuff. Its always tough (at least for me) to acknowledge your past self is well, still you in every sense of the way. Sometimes I think of my past self as a completely different person, seeing how different my life is now compared to back then. But yeah, this animation really reminded me that no matter how hard it is, you need to find ways to connect, and embrace your past, and yeah this video is a masterpeiece lol. Thank you for coming to my ted talks yap session (if you even read to this point).

I absolutely love the extremely flexible time signature! It loves to swap from 4/4 to 7/8 intermittently, and I feel like that 'whiplash' is used to great effect here! There's also the half-time segment that stays in 4/4 to keep you grounded and steady until the conflict starts to resolve. Plus, multimedia video is just the best. Good job! I don't know any other songs or videos that have quite this same essence, and your creativity really shows!

I like how unique scrapbook looks, like how his one hand is like attached to his back instead of his side which makes very unique movements.
This is amazing. It reflects my childhood really well. When I was little, I did so many things which genuinely made me happy, but 3 of the most memorable things I did was conlanging, writing stories and stuff in English and in another language, and also drawing. I abandoned those things until now because I thought these were silly and useless projects. Then I found the art community, the conlang community, and also I found fanfictions online which reminded me of those things I did in the past, so I decided to start trying those things. And here I am.

Man, this hit hard, especially the part about how “childhood was not made to last”. It really shows how that whimsy and passion fades away slowly as we get older. Even if we can’t chase all of our old dreams, there’s no reason we shouldn’t hold onto those memories if they make us feel good.
I really hope we get more Scrapbook content in the future, I really worry for him and Glitter, but hopeful this hints at a happy ending for him in the future.

I just watched this video, and I can guarantee that it is one of the best songs I've ever heard out of everyone in the OSC. I can obviously relate to Scrapbook himself too, since our interests are very similar and our lives are starting to get complex as we grow up. Sometimes, I think of most of my childhood memories, and I never let go of them because I find them very satisfying for myself. In Scrapbook's words, I hope I can make some new memories...

This song really mirrors us about the world we are currently living, the technology, the massive work, and school burnout really sucks. But we can't forget that we could still be happy at some moment, because happiness isn't just a feeling, it's a thing that exists inside of yourself. You can't escape happiness. The thing that holds you back is a huge wall of stress, you need to break through and form the new happy you.
Bismuth's comeback really sweetened my heart, it's always lovely to hear her tunes. Well, I guess the next one will be for Katyj?

this is amazing! love the reference to antonymph (1:44) because that song carries a similar message to this one. i think this song speaks to anyone who is/has tried to be a content creator, or even just anyone who grew up on the internet. as a kid you want to pursue your passions forever, but when you grow older society says that it’s a silly idea, so you tend to just hide it away. but a true passion never leaves you, and you must learn to embrace it, even if society says it’s silly. love this, thank you katj98 for making these beautiful, inspirational videos, i have related to all of the “this is __” videos on so many levels, and i hope they will continue to inspire others.

The details shown here are so beatiful! The visuals and animations were so cute and good-looking, it would make anyone cry. Glad to see some sort of a pattern: Charcoal helped Bismuth and Bismuth helped Scrapbook. Also we see that the glitches on character's eyes won't completly went off by the end of the video, but in Scrapbook's case it went off, like it his problems were solved now - not after the video. The eyes showing there is just accepting that everything will be fine, you don't be ashamed of yourself. It's just so neat and sweat that if you figure out the hidden meaning of this videos, you can get the context, the plot, the problems our characters are facing and what they do to resolve them. I can describe this video or even these series in one word - Epic.

@phransphan I don’t think Poker Chip is Scrapbook’s sister considering that his sister is older and both Poker Chip and Scrapbook are in the same class (and by the way Scrapbook’s home is a lot more colorful than the home seen when Scrapbook’s mom and presumably Poker Chip’s mom were on screen)
