In this video, Knox Hutchinson covers upgrading the Junos operating system on your Juniper device. Even if you don't have them on the most recent release, it's important that your Juniper devices all run on the same Junos build. In this video, Knox explains:
Checking the version your device is currently operating on
Comparing the build number to Juniper's available builds
The steps for downloading and installing the image directly to the device via url
What to do if your device is so old that it doesn't support TLS or you don't want to directly install the update
To upgrade your Junos OS, you first have to check if there's even an upgrade available for the device you're working on. With the right command, you can check the version your Juniper switch is operating on so you can compare it to the versions listed on Juniper's website - support.junipe....
Compare build numbers to see if you want to upgrade your device. You can then download the .tgz file and install it locally via flash drive, or you can download the image directly to your device via url.
To do that, check that your device can actually access the internet, then make sure your DNS settings are correct. With that, you can instruct the device on where to find the new OS image and where to load it.
You might run into problems - like Knox does - if your device doesn't support TLS. Old Juniper devices will revert to grabbing data from sites using straight SSL, but new websites won't support it. The workaround is local installation.

Good basic instructions. However, shouldn’t you back up your current configuration before the upgrade, in case something goes wrong?

First get the firmware, but you can't as an hobbyist, because juniper choose to put them behind a paywall, thanks for security?

Hello! I ran into an issue where we have to upgrade to 15.1R7.9 and I'm on 15.1R5.5.
When I upgrade to R6 it refuses to load my config file. Says identical address found on multiple interfaces.
We only use one ip. The config file worked fine for all previous versions. Very confused here

hi I wanna buy a ex3200 for home use, I'l buy a refurbished switch but I'm scared because I dunno if this switch comes with preinstalled software and a license, if not, where can I get it? I won't be able to pay to juniper directly just to use the switch because I don't know how expensive it is, I also would like to know how the license activation works, I wanna use this switch mainly for layer 2

Your Juniper can obtain an IP from DHCP for MGMT interface. Here is the command : set interfaces fxp0 unit 0 family inet dhcp

Thank you for your question! Juniper does offer Juniper vLabs, an interactive free online sandbox environment. It’s intended to help users learn to Juniper equipment can be configured. We have training on how to use that as part of a Virtual Homelab, or if you’d rather, as a piece of creating a hardware homelab: www.cbtnuggets.com/blog/new-skills/new-training-introducing-juniper-certifications-and-labs
