  • The Horrifying Fall Of The LINE In Saudi Arabia
Imagine a city stretching 105 miles straight through a desert-that's Saudi Arabia's plan with Neom, also known as The Line. They're spending $200 billion to build this narrow, towering city designed to fit 9 million people. Yet, facing unexpected challenges, they've had to cut back, now aiming for just 300,000 people by 2030. Will this strange design work, or will it ruin Saudi Arabia's reputation forever? Let us explore the most intricate details of one of the most expensive failures in history.
Neom, also known as The Line, is a gigantic project in Saudi Arabia where they're trying to build a super-long city in the desert. The plan was to spend about $200 billion to make this city stretch for 105 miles. It's meant to be a huge structure, really tall and skinny, where about 9 million people can live. They chose a spot in the desert that doesn't have much going on-just a lot of sun and sea water, which doesn’t sound too exciting.
Now, I'm not trying to sound too harsh here. When you pick a spot to build something big, it’s not just about the location. I hear there are a couple of other things that matter too, though they don’t tell us much about what those are. I’m kind of sweating bullets talking about this because nobody wants to upset the big guys in charge. The last person who questioned the idea of building such a long and narrow city in a dusty, empty place didn’t end up too well.

Mega ambitions, Mega egos, Mega fails. When sheer stupidity overshadows simple logic and common sense, monstrous failures will likely ensue.

I think it’s a great idea. It’s very futuristic and that’s where we’re heading anyway.

I think it's too tall. A realistic build of 20 story buildings is challenging enough for the architects because of the structural weights and stresses on the ground. Look at the NYC skyline, where the bedrock is shallower and thicker the skyscrapers are tall, where the schist is too deep the buildings are noticeably smaller. That's just the 1st of thousands of challenges to overcome.
