    I’m glad you did this one. I agree about the innovative-unconventional issue but I’m glad this prize exists as I only came across the Pawson, Smith and Bowles because of this shortlist. It also often has a lot of indie publishers. It certainly chooses books that often don’t get a look in on the Booker - Ducks, Newburyport was an exception on the Booker but was right at home here and won.

    Thanks! While not a fan of prizes or prize list reviews, your thoughtful and thought filled foray into the "genre" has me ordering a couple of the titles I was going to skip. ps- your observation, "...and Rachel Cusk is Rachel Cusk doing Rachel Cusk things" should be carved in stone somewhere. Definitely carved into my brain as I consider what Cusk 100% succeeding at doing Rachel Cusk might read like.
