Handling her since she was born, fussing, petting, being down at her level is exactly why she was so easy to halter. There has been a trust built and imprinted early on. Nita is being so calm for a new mom proves how much she trusts the humans in her world. This would not happen with a ram it jamb it sort of handling. What a lovely little foal this little girl is. Kudos to you all and especially Charlotte for being so calm and gentle with her. Getting down to her level is far less intimidating. Just like children.
I just love how gentle and loving your family handles such a young foal. It’s no wonder that your horses handle so willingly and lightly. It’s a real joy to witness. Thank you for sharing ❤
I watch the Fresian Horses RUclips channel with Yvonne Horjus. Her foals often get "diaper rash" around 10 days or do. She explains that it is caused when the mare comes in season. She says it changes the mare's milk and causes the irritation on their bottom. She does clean them and puts an ointment on them and it clears in time. Nita and Indie-Ann are so beautiful together. Love how much you love your horses ❤
Yes, I watch Yvonne too. It is quite a common problem in young foals but once treatment starts it does appear to clear up quite quickly. Steve is so gentle with his approach. 🤗
Lovely! Indie has Nita's calm intelligence and already trusts humans to be good leaders. What a powerhouse she's got in the back end too, she's going to be strong and quick as well as absolutely gorgeous! Congrats again team Steve on a beautiful new addition to the family 🎉❤🐎
Indie is such a sweet, beautiful foal! I can only imagine how Steve feels every time he admires that perfect quarter horse confirmation, lol! Charlotte and Tanya seem a little more on the side of "love cause she's a Baby"!!! 😊 Thank you so much for sharing these wonderful bits of your life with us.
Love the contrast between Steve & Charlotte here...Both could achieve the same goals with this little one..Charlotte's loving approach & her dad with his Horsemanship skills...It is lovely to see Steve crack a bit with a shower of love for this young filly ❤
What a fabulous first session for your stunning little filly. Thank you so much for sharing these early milestones Steve. Starting off such young foals is something not many can experience in real life so it's a real privilege to be on this journey with you guys right from the start. Much love to you all and thank you for everything you do for horses and ponies.
She is so sweet and took to haltering so well ❤ There is a 2 minute foal handling with Monty Roberts video that shows him using a "handle" aka a soft rope around the foals butt and breast to avoid putting too much pressure on a young foals head/neck while learning to lead. I didn't learn it from Mr Roberts but my family has always used the same technique to teach our foals, it's brilliant.
Steve l saw someone that breeds horses and she mentioned that a foal will lose hair around their bottom when the mare comes in season, it makes the milk change, l’ve never bred horses but I would look it up, she’s doing great having a head collar on for the first time bless her, tfs guys x Julie
I love that Steve is talking to Charlotte and Charlotte is talking to Indie Ann at the same time, yet Steve knows Charlotte heard him. I am so glad to see the first haltering go so smoothly. ❤
Ok Steve, either you are truly magical; or that foal has so much of Nita's wisdom and character that she's going to be another perfect horse. You must be such a proud Papa!!!
JUST WATCHED THIS FOUR TIMES - WHAT A WONDERFUL START FOR INDIE ANN. SHE REALLY DOES HAVE A SAFE AND HAPPY LIFE AHEAD -THANKS TO MARVELLOUS HANDLING BY ALL CONCERNED. NO TEARS THIS VIDEO, JUST IN WONDER AND AMAZEMENT. THANKS TO ALL, BLESSINGS AND LOVE TO YOU LOVELY FAMILYXX
What a beautiful little foal and she's going to have so much fun with Molly's foal! Charlotte is a natural and you all are so gentle with her. What a great life for this little one!
😂Steve is so “in trading mode” and Char is like kissy, kissy, love you, ewww, kissy. Steve: ok guys…let’s do this…. Funny! But, yes, it’s serious stuff. It was so easy because some of Nita’s trust has passed to little one. Nobody getting nervous, including mom. Very nice work. As you say, others may not have it so easy. A pleasure to watch.
What you call poo burn starts after the mare has her post foaling cycle. The hormones mess with the foal's tummy a bit. All very normal, but soothed by nappy cream. Have not watched the rest yet, and am sure others have mentioned this in the comments, also. She is going to be a real keeper with those markings. So fine boned (I was just watching a Belgium/Suffolk cross foal!!). Wonder if Charlotte will end up with her, time will tell.....? You must be really pleased with these efforts, as well as how well she has turned out conformation (and colour) wise? I have some catching up to do, who was Molly put to? Hope she foals easily.
I dreamed about something like this when I was a young teen in the early 70s but couldn’t articulate it at all because I knew so little at the time, just enough to know that mutual trust was the way and not “breaking.” I am so grateful for trainers like you and your family, Steve, for making my dreams come true! You are truly making the world better one horse, one rider at a time- and it’s even more wonderful than I could ever have imagined. Thank you so, so much for this. This video healed part of me that I didn’t know was hurt. ❤❤❤
Thats the exact way I start all my foals when I have them in December and January. I use the draw of mom to get the feet going that way, and because I've handled them like Charlotte has Indie, i have no issues getting them going away from mom either. 3 sessions of 5 minutes, 2 or 3 times a day. But i make tge time for each foal!! So that tget know me. I spend time in the stalls with them, I i make time in the indoir arena because it's too cold for them to go outside, but I spend time with them. And all the mares and foals are turned out in the indoor together with hay and heated water for at least 2 hours or more during the say. As there are only lessons in the heated arena at night during the winter, it works out perfectly! As for the butt burn, that's from Nita's foal heat that causes that. I make sure to wash off all the manure and put a Desitan Diaper Rash cream on their bottoms to make them feel better. Your friend, the Retired Paramedic and Horse Trainer in Ontario, Canada, Jenn 💖 🇨🇦 Who is at a horse show with 2 stallions this Saturday, and am just getting ready to go in with Magician's Calypso for Show Jumping a 1.10m course, followed in 2 horses by his half-brother, Pete's Dragon, for the same class.
Thank you for your explanation of the rash and it confirms what other commenters said. I appreciate that, and am so glad you lead the way in .Canada for people who meet you. Do others emulate your handling ways? Do you teach them? And good energy for your showings!
Cute little dun. I wonder if you guessed what her color might be when you picked a sire? My favorite horse colors are buckskins. She did so great for her first halter lesson.🐴
I love your videos but occasionally miss one--somehow I never saw who Indie-Ann's sire is---she is so strikingly beautiful and perfect quarter horse type--is her sire famous? and could you show us his picture and maybe some details? So sorry if this is a repetition of previous information but I would love to see that history! Thank you for all you do and share with everyone!
G’day Steve Tania Charlotte Nita Indi-Ann OH my that couldn’t have gone any better! Indi’s getting the best start in life, now for a clean bum and something for Nita’s udder bees wax cream? Exceptional job done well! With many source blessings with truth clarity love light laughter happiness joy fun play creativity adventures abundance wisdom wealth health and may peace be with you all! Victoria Australia 🇦🇺 xox
I rescued a dog with 6 pups. She had mastitis on 1 teat, so I applied aloe Vera on the infected teat, (doesn’t taste good so pups went for the others) & it took just a couple days for it to heal. ❤
Her poor little bum! I know someone who cleans them up and then basically squirts baby oil over the foal’s bum to create a barrier and hopefully reduce irritation. Hopefully she’s feeling a lot better now 🤞
Great video. She is one beautiful filly (is that what they call her??). She seems to have Nita’s cool! She also feels Nita’s trust in you all. It’s so beautiful to watch! Thank you!🦋❤️🙏
I had to chuckle when I saw Charlotte kiss the baby on the nose. I am working with two yearlings and their owner says she will NEVER kiss a horse. How can you not? The nose is the best part of a horse!...and those babies are just irresistible.
I'm laughing at Charlotte - she's totally gaga over that foal, not hearing Steve, rubbing and kissing, not paying attention! Can't blame her though, just look at that baby!!
Shes already under Charlottes spell and is rapidly falling for Steve now. This post is becoming a great advertisement for your business thats for sure. Prime evidence your method works on any age group Steve. You have all the ladies mesmerised 😂
Absolutely wonderful! Look at that innocence! She's so safe with you all, she knows no fear. What a wonderful start in life! Thank you.

I was going to mention that exact thing! ❤
Me too!
Yes, I watch Yvonne too. It is quite a common problem in young foals but once treatment starts it does appear to clear up quite quickly. Steve is so gentle with his approach. 🤗
I was going to share the same info. Funny we all watch the same horse shows.
@@grammeatticus2172 + 1 😊
Lovely! Indie has Nita's calm intelligence and already trusts humans to be good leaders.
What a powerhouse she's got in the back end too, she's going to be strong and quick as well as absolutely gorgeous! Congrats again team Steve on a beautiful new addition to the family 🎉❤🐎
Indie feels very good about herself! Such a beautiful princess!
I’ve seen that sore bum before when the foal’s dam is in season. Makes the milk funny.
What a doll baby. And smart like her mom.

Much love to you all and thank you for everything you do for horses and ponies.
I love how casual Nita was with that whole process. She didn't even look, she was just busy with her hay!
This is most adorable sweet baby girl ever! And that tiny head collar! I am melting! ❤💜
I'm so glad you were able to get a baby from your beloved Nita. Such a sweet beautiful filly! Thank you for bringing us along to watch her grow!
When you start a foal correctly it makes all the difference. Beautiful foal.
She is so sweet and took to haltering so well ❤

Impressive. Mama is gorgeous and so well mannered.
You’re going to have the most well rounded filly ever. Learning the right way

This was beautiful to watch. Lovely to see you all working together & your horses are so lucky to have such a loving & knowledgeable home.
I like the way she stayed with you after you removed the halter after the first lesson with the lead rope. She is getting an awesome start!
How cute was that!! Indy Ann is one smart horse!
Wonderful to watch. What a beautiful mare she’s going to be, just like her mum.

Beautiful video, all the growing bonds, the care and trust. In unsettling times, it helps so much to remember the important things in life.
HOLY CRAPINGTON!! That youngster is rock star! What a horse!
as a rock star she should be nick named: Madonna! But she has a great name already!

This brought tears to my eyes. God bless you all.
That foal has such a beautiful nature....she is going to be so easy to train
Trusting sweet little foal. 😊
Love this! Nita is such a perfect mom and the foal is stunning! Well done all ❤

There's a good brave girl ❤
Foal scours! Oh, fun!! 😮😅
Is that due to the mare coming into season?
@susanwestern6434 usually, yes. And, the foal may not enjoy having it cleaned up! 😅
So adorable, lovely to watch. ❤
She is beautiful ❤
