Starring Maroussia Ejova and Patch Harvey (instagram.com/patchharvey). Casting and story help from producer Ansley Sawyer (instagram.com/ansleysawyer). I shot this over a few days in Paris and largely improvised the story and dialog. It has more than a few elements from my own life in it.
Brandon Li :Hello, I am in Sichuan, China, I also do the video, too much like your film, and would like to make friends with you, I can add you WeChat? My WeChat: dyxlys
Do you beleive in Love? I mean if one person can really be destined for another, or rather it is a man who makes plans and God laughs .Maybe interesting as the main idea for a new script. :-) I was born in Paris and I can testify that beyond the Clichés Love in Paris has very deep contrasts, But true that from my childhood I remember Paris as a very liberal capital. ¨Strawberrys¨ realistic detail of the great Parisian rudeness sometimes disguised as courtesy, by the vendor in the market stall at 0:30
it's not about the location, it's about the person...if you can't trust the person, then It's not a serious relationship and if it's not, then it doesn't matter if someone cheats.
Really great storytelling. Amazing that most of it was improvised. I love how you weaved in their evening together even as they were meeting. Loved it. Awesome cinematography as always!
SO good. People need to watch this in 2020 to remember when we could move freely and enjoy the simple romance of life. It can return, but we need to learn to live with Covid, not in fear of it.
Why haven't millions of people loved this??? It was intoxicating and moving in a way that it took Lost In Translation hours to achieve. Finding your channel was the best thing that's happened to me for a long time. Thanks for sharing your extraordinary work.
Always coming back to your films...been in Hongkong again this morning...being in Seoul with your film is just breathtaking...and I love this Paris film, the story telling and all the little moments in it is just amazing...I used to be a video editor:greatest respect to your stunning editing skills...your work is so outstanding...wish you a blessed, creative new year!
That was by far the most moving film I've seen on RUclips. I started tearing up halfway through realizing the potential realities and then one reality came to life... the music fit the mood and the tone was perfect. I can relate to the story. Perfect execution..
I really don't understand how you only have 43k followers, I really don't. It seems un real. You are a TRUE filmmaker, not a transition maker like all these famous people. People forget that the most important thing about a film, is the story. And this can EASILY be transformed into a movie. I follow you from your Vimeo days and I just hope your RUclips career explodes because you deserve it. Excellent video, as I would expect.
Thanks Abad, I think maybe RUclips isn't a platform for filmmakers. It's for on camera personalities. So the people who talk the best game and post the most videos get the most subs. That's why I also post to Vimeo, which is primarily a filmmaker platform. I just wish the audience there was bigger.
Brandon Li yeah maybe that's true. I just feel you have so much to offer. I'm an aspiring filmmaker and always try to learn as much as I can from people like you. I watched your last video that you did in Spain and it was amazing. it was a 4min film. loved it! whenever you are in London again let me know and I can help you with whatever you need. Hopefully RUclips people will start giving you the credit you deserve
Thanks, I don't make my living off RUclips so it's not really a big deal if I have a smaller following. I think it's important to have a career outside social media.
Brandon Li oh I imagine! hahahaha keep teaching what you know, and I'm sure you will succeed here as well. I learn a lot with your videos. I try to see what you do and learn from that. I learnt a lot from the video you did of an oriental company. How you showed the men working and the atmosphere. really great. what can I say, I'm a fan of your work
Brandon, what a great piece of story telling. I hope we get to see more shorts like this from you. Thank you for sharing as we call all learn a lot together.
Having just watched tons of official Paris tourism office videos (I am doing a research on them), I came across your story. It's like a breath of fresh air. Thank you, it's inspiring!
Great short film especially since you improvised the story and dialog! Love the intertwining of takes to give us a taste into what may happen between these two as they enjoy Paris together. This only enhanced the ending which shines with a goodbye kiss that leads to the age old question "What might have been?" Solid work!
Man, this was such a great story & of course, I loved the way it was shot. Opened my eyes how to keep things moving and I dug how it was unscripted. Great job Brandon Li.
Brandon, you never cease to amaze me with your beautiful narrating style. I am in love with this one specially. When there are movies which are hours long that cannot impress us with their narrating style, you make us fall for your's in your videos which are not more than a few minutes. Keep inspiring us 😊
Brandon!!! I love that you're adventuring the world of acted films :) Really enjoyed this story. Filming is awesome and sound quality is top notch. Great back and forth in the time line. Keep pushing Brandon! [Spoiler alert ] The end was heart breaking.
Brother! This is the most spectacular "travel" video I have ever come across. I am headed to Lisbon - Spain - Italy on June 1st and I am hoping to start my own youtube channel with videos like these + daily vlogs. I absolutely love the culture aspect of this video and it is something I look up to greatly! Fantastic.
Awesome storytelling and cinematography! One thing to keep in mind next time, when someone picks a call the cellphone screen has to go black, else it seems fake
Im going crazy trying to figure out why this video has such low views ...omg Brandon li....I see u as my mentor ....Im learning from your videos...one day I will make you proud....lots of love from India
This is really nice man. Coming from Paris, I just love the way you pictured the city. The romance is nice as well, the ending reminded me of personal experiences so I like it even more. Great job
Brandon you're my hero. So much inspirational video. This is Paris! Yes! One day maybe I'll make amazing videos like yours! Can't wait for the next one
Some straight up top notch cinematic storytelling bro... i also love your fast pace video work! Hope you do a full length movie production some time, you'll be 1 cinema boss
Captivating , it really drew me in and left me with a mix of emotion ... you really tug with emotions every time ... thank you for continuing to inspire me with your work
To create this storyline, you need to understand woman and Male game, the words, the animation, all adds to the seduction and why she went along with it. This Coupled with great clips sales the story of boy meets girl, but with the complication of the environment, moment and past. Great work Brandon. 👏
The lonely feel we get seeing her amongst the faceless people on the subway, plus the difficulty she finds in communicating with the people, and the isolated feel of her on the bridge looking at all these people hanging out with one another makes me find it highly unlikely that she actually has a boyfriend. This plus him asking her what she's doing tomorrow, and her clearly wanting him to stay.
Damn, alright. Real comment: I really enjoyed that, it felt like it came from a personal place and if it didn't I hope you'll still take that as a compliment. I would definitely like to see more written narratives, it's great to see your style of scenes and montages mixed with more "traditional" screen writing.

So relatable.
Was this still the usual a6300/6500 + gimbal method? Stellar video.
The story indeed seems to be very authentic (those who visited Europe know what I'm talking about) :-D
Moral of the story: Never ever let your girlfriend go to Paris alone.
syahmi adnan o a3chiri never marry a cheater :p
true...
it's not about the location, it's about the person...if you can't trust the person, then It's not a serious relationship and if it's not, then it doesn't matter if someone cheats.
For my moral of this story is "have a backup" :D
Moral of the story, have an open relationship.
*THIS* is the Paris I want everyone to experience.
And you captured this so perfectly.
You are everywhere
I literally thought of you when i saw it
I felt it so much cuz I traveled alone for so long, and this part of travel breaks you
Really great storytelling. Amazing that most of it was improvised. I love how you weaved in their evening together even as they were meeting. Loved it. Awesome cinematography as always!
It really was!
SO good. People need to watch this in 2020 to remember when we could move freely and enjoy the simple romance of life. It can return, but we need to learn to live with Covid, not in fear of it.
As a Parisian, I love to see how outsiders perceive the city's special mystique. Great mastery in the shooting & editing. Bravo Brandon!
Yoooo wtf did I just stumble into. This is mad good. Masterpiece 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Stunning as always! I usually love the filming but here is the first time I see dialogue/story as well! Breath taking, pure art!

This brought tears to my eyes. Beautiful sadness.

Brandon, Absolutely incredible. You are so talented and creative, everything you put your hands on is pure magic. THANK YOU FOR SHARING.
Oh man, the ending though . Great short Brandon I loved it. Thanks for putting the effort to make something as good as this for us !
Richard Linklater is a huge influence on me, as well. Great short!
I've actually never seen his films
Brandon - run, don't walk, to the Before Midnight trilogy.
the trilogy
Having just watched tons of official Paris tourism office videos (I am doing a research on them), I came across your story. It's like a breath of fresh air. Thank you, it's inspiring!
You never cease to amaze us Brandon ! This is the kind of shorts I want to make one day. Beautiful visual, sound, acting and editing !

May we present Brandon with the best cinematography award

The cinematic images, wow.
The rythm and the mood...

Really loved this one. It reminds me of the kind of melanchony of the movie "Her"
You bring magic alive in your videos. Awesome!
I JUST GOTTA ASK ABOUT THE AUDIO... IT'S SO CLEAN, CLEAR, & QUIET !!! HOW?
Man, this was such a great story & of course, I loved the way it was shot. Opened my eyes how to keep things moving and I dug how it was unscripted. Great job Brandon Li.
you're a genius!! great film, it was more captivating than a 2 hours movie...

She gave him a Paris memory all right...... hope he had more fun in Barcelona!!
Great job Brandon, wonderfully interwoven story and editing skills.
Very before sunrise and sunset in the storyline. Fantastic work as always :)
Nicely done! Strongly reminds me of the Before Sunrise/Sunset/Midnight trilogy.
Brother! This is the most spectacular "travel" video I have ever come across.

A midnight in paris so amazing movie.
Great storytelling... Thanks Brandon. Your every video impressing me!. Hope you would be nice everyday.
beautiful storytelling - nice work Brandon
So basically she cheated on her boyfriend
Fry mais n'importe quoi, c'est quoi ces clichés ?! 😂😂
Enzo CL hahaha! 😂🤣
Yes, basically lol
Am I too naive or it's just one kiss?
@Enzo CL Je pense ce sont les clichés de "Before Sunrise", même cette actrice ressemble un peu à Julie Delpy.
omg truly beautiful and so realistic
Beautiful!!!!
