    That is, indeed, her canonical origin; made from clay by Hippolyta. Later reinventions of Wonder Woman make her the daughter of Zeus by Hippolyta, which always seemed less cool to me. Many authors over the years have experimented and shifted her story and that of the Amazons. They've been immortal isolated guardians of the world, and they've been raiders who steal men for reproduction and condemn their male children to the mines under the island. But the simpler, purer island of women, separated from Man's World, is always the best.

    • @freefall945

      Great reaction, btw. This Wonder Woman movie is a standalone, unconnected with the "DCAU" cannon. The connected DC Animated Universe, the legendary cartoons everyone raves about with Kevin Conroy and the other voice action allstars, is only a few properties: B:TAS, S:TAS, Justice League, and Justice League Unlimited, with 'softer' connections to Batman Beyond, Static Shock, and a handful of other smaller projects. As always, DCAU Wonder Woman is Best Wonder Woman. Look forward to when you get through BTAS and STAS and are ready to go on the grand and epic journey that is JL!

    • @marzuuuuski

      Batman Beyond is on the mainstream timeline for the DCAU at the very end. Static Shock and Zeta Project are soft titles.
      Also I'm really excited for her to get to Justice League and Justice League Unlimited too! DCAU Flash, Green Arrow, and Question are some of my favorite heroes, and DCAU Steve Trevor is so much better than this one

      Hippolyta has zero powers, especially the power of creation.

    • @freefall945
      @freefall945 Год назад +1

      @@Notorious_Network she has the powers (previously) because she is blessed by the Amazon goddesses, and is the best among the amazons. Obviously her birth from clay is a divine miracle from which Zeus can be called her father in a divine sense. But the later addition, that she is literally his child by virtue of a mortal/divine tryst… well, it may be perfectly Hellenic; but like I said, strikes me as less cool and unique.

      I've always been curious about the last point of them being an island of women separated from the world in terms of "how do they stay populated?" Because I feel like the "raiders that condemn their men to be mine slaves" angle sort of undermines the whole "the outside world is full of evil" message that tends to be tied to the Amazons. If it's that they're under the impression of "men are always innately evil", then there is at least an understandable reason for that line of thinking, granted it's still wrong but it's KINDA understandable (at least in terms of why they would think that). Personally I would think that if there was any group of peoples that would be all about equality it would be the Amazons.

    I don’t think this is a very good representation of Wonder Woman, and even less of a good representation of Steve Trevor. Wonder Woman debuted in the comics in 1941, and among her appearances in live action, the 1970s Lynda Carter remains the best, in my view. As for animation, I honestly don’t think modern releases are ever on the right track. ... Hot Hades? Well, this guy was no Erik Thomson, I admit. ... Created by Dr. William Moulton Marston, Wonder Woman draws heavily on Greek (or sometimes Roman) mythology, and yes, she is traditionally sculpted from clay by her mother, Hippolyta, and given life by the gods. ... Wonder Woman is usually cited as one of only three DC heroes to remain in continuous publication following the end of the Golden Age of comics, the other two being Superman and Batman (aside from a handful of others who survived in backup stories in the comics of the big three.) ... I think you’ll like the DCAU version, though I don’t think she’s without flaw. ... Now would be a good time to once again voice support for Justice League: A New Frontier. 😁

  • @stevetheduck1425
    @stevetheduck1425 Год назад +1

    Diana is sculpted from clay by her mother. Brought to life by several Greek Goddesses (not by Zeus's lightning as in this film, that's a very recent change to her story).
    Like the fairy godmothers to Cinderella (clay for ashes) (it's a widespread legend) she is the product of a Mother's yearning for a child and her faith in the goddesses, finding her own path away from her mother.
    Hippolyta has only history with Hercules (look up the original Greek Myth for what he did, symbolised by most historians as he took her girdle (young maiden Greek women wore girdles; married, mother-status women did not, rather like the apron worn by Viking and Celtic women)), and why does she like original Steve Trevor?
    He's a pacifistic soldier, concerned only with defending his home and land's way of life (like Hestia) and shows wisdom and skill (like Athena).
    He's also the mythical figure of the 'dying and returning King', which is similar to King Arthur and a few other male demigods. Even Hercules had to die and return from Olympus, much wiser.
    Later Steve Trevors are much less interesting, because of the changing perception of soldiers in the US.

    5:48 If I remember correctly it's closest to her most widely used origin, she prayed for a child since obviously an island of women can't have any and Zeus brought the baby she made of clay(at least I dont think it was originally sand) to life and each god blessed the child with a gift. Later reboots played around with her origins some I think one even made her Aries daughter but the most widely used is Hippolyta made her of clay and prayed to Zeus whom brought her to life.

    You massively missed Persephone's point. She isn't saying that being a woman means you have to be a mother. She was simply saying that the Queen's decision to lock them away from the world has also taken away their freedom. In Persephone's case it took away the option of love and a family. This can also be applied to Alexa and her love for literature. On the island books from the outside are also considered forbidden. While there are some authorized books on the island, fighting is still considered the only thing that matters because the queen has instilled that they are warriors first and foremost. The queen speaks of living freely but limits freedom to such a degree that its not really freedom anymore. Alexa points this out when talking about the horses. "We feed you till you're full. Give you everything you could possibly need, and yet all you want is to run free"

Unlike Batman and Superman who were very much of that post depression era, Wonder Woman was full of bdsm imagery, in fact tying her up actually removed her power's. And this bdsm imagery wasn't treated as anything taboo, unusual or as a fetish, it was just out in open, normalized in the context of the stories and Wonder Woman universe. Nowadays it's so obvious when you look at those old images especially knowing the creator/writer of the Wonder Woman comic's William Moulton Marston, bdsm "interests" in their personal life, heavlily injecting it into the earlier Wonder Woman comics, plus she was snarky, I miss snarky sassy Wonder Woman. This movie's Steve Trevor is possibly the worst iteration of the character in all of Wonder Woman media.

    I love this movie, this movie is so awesome the action in this one is almost non-stop especially in the final act 🔥 and this is a really very underrated animated movie, also there's some things I think this animated movie did better than the 2017 live action movie and there are other things I think the 2017 live action movie did better than this animated movie actually a lot of things the live action movie did better than this movie but overall I love both 🙌

    The best introduction to Wonder Woman in the DCAU, and the worst introduction to Steve Trevor lol. There’s not exactly a natural introduction to Wonder Woman in the DCAU unfortunately. Many of the characters don’t get proper introductions and even lack solo projects, but hopefully that’ll change soon. To get more of Wonder Woman and a better side of Steve Trevor, I highly recommend checking out the live action Wonder Woman show starring Lynda Carter. He’s not only more handsome but also a lot better characterized as far as I remember anyways.

    This ANIMATED MOVIE is closest to the origin story portrayed from the ORIGINAL COMIC, when WONDER WOMAN was created.

      No God involved in Wonder Woman's origin except Hermes, who gave her speed, and was one of the group four or five Greek Goddesses that gave Diana her gifts (like Cinderella, it's an old myth).
      Wonder Woman has no father, unless her mother lied to her.
      The Ares, Zeus or God of the Underworld links with her mother are unique to different re-tellings, in cartoons, movies and some later comics.

    Writing is ok, see there are a lot of women who want to be a mother and have a loving Family. U got a little toxic trait there.

    I haven’t seen all that many versions of him tbh but this is by far the worst Steve Trevor I’ve seen. He’s pretty unlikable for most of the movie.

    There are 2 established Wonder Woman origins. The first is made of clay, and the second is child of Zeus. Both are the ripped off whole cloth from Greek mythology. I prefer the child of Zeus origin as it lines up very easily with my knowledge of the original myths.

    The author, his wife and their girlfriend are really interesting.
    The creator of the lie detector test wanted to come up with a female super hero that was psychologically designed to promote strong women. Blah blah into bondage blah blah.
    Wonder woman is super interesting
