    My mum recently got the same diagnosis for thinning hair. I'm sure you're on top of it but a couple of tips: Take iron tablets on an empty stomach and with a glass of juice (the Vitamin C helps absorb it basically). Also, Vitamin B12 is needed to help absorb iron so if you're low in that it's not surprising you're low in iron. Fortified cereals are your friend too. Hope it improves soon!

      I’d argue not to take iron on an empty stomach. Often people can find iron tablets really harsh on their stomach and that’s made worse when not taking it with food. I made the mistake of taking mine on an empty stomach once or twice and it made me unwell, and knowing how Molly feels about being sick this isn’t something I’d recommend

    So good you heard back from the doctors so quickly! I went through a similar thing a while ago (probably about 5 years ago now) and my mum only bought cereals that were high in iron and made sure it was a constant in my diet. I don’t eat much meat either so really tried to focus on the veggie intake. My iron levels were also very very low and I managed to get them back up and “normal” (they never will be normal, just as normal as you can get them) in about 6ish months. Definitely try and take other vitamins too as they’ll all work hand in hand 💗

    I have never commented on a RUclips video but just wanted to share with you that the exact same thing happens to me with my hair and iron levels. I went to see a specialist (trichologist) who was incredibly helpful. They said that my iron levels should be 100 to stop it falling out, even though the ’normal’ range suggests different . I often find the doctors tell me my iron levels are fine, but they are at the lowest level of ‘normal’, which is too low for me and my hair.
    Taking iron tablets consistently stopped my hair falling out. I had another point of hair loss due to stress a couple of years later, but again the trichologist helped explain this.
    Hope that’s helpful or reassuring about your what you’re going through. Low iron can make you feel very poorly so hope you’re feeling okay xx

      That’s really useful - thank you so much! My hairdresser did recommend going to see a trichologist so that’s good to know that they were actually useful!! And yessss this is what I mean when I said I’ve always had low iron levels but the doctors tell me it’s normal, but mine are honestly around 14/15 so to hear that they need to be near 100 makes me think I really probably need to get this sorted coz the doctors never seem too concerned haha

    I have had this issue a couple of times with my hair as well! Im also not exactly sure why it happens but I have found that stopping using dry shampoo has improved the problem a lot. So if you use dry shampoo a lot it could be worth stopping and seeing if it makes a difference x

    • @MollyThompsonx_
      @MollyThompsonx_  2 года назад

      Thank you! I actually don’t use dry shampoo really but deffo something to think about (especially if it’s an ingredient in dry shampoo that causes it!)

    I have low B12 levels, and hair loss from an immunosuppressive therapy. I’ve found marmite for a easy thing is a god send! 5g is 25% of the B12 you need! and broccoli lol
    On top of prescriptions this really helps, hope you find something that helps you soon :)

    • @MollyThompsonx_
      @MollyThompsonx_  2 года назад

      No way!! Would never have thought that about marmite!! I actually quite like it so that would be an easy addition haha

    If it’s folic acid they prescribe you it can often make people feel quite nauseous, stick with it but if not then speak the the dr, I had seriously low iron and B12 and was put on it but had to come off x

      They did warn me about this & I am a bit nervous about the potential strong side effects but so far it’s been a few days and it seems to be going okay 🤞🤞

    I had the same issue a few years back myself with my hair think it was down to stress and several other things and tried so many hair type products what never fixed it until I changed up my shampoo I recommend using bed head shampoo

    Did the doctors not say you need the b12 injections? I was told I had to have them when my b12 was really low, been on them for years now they're great ☺️ I also have an underactive thyroid which causes thinning hair and there can be a link between low iron / b12 and having underactive thyroid so it's good to get your thyroid levels monitored, mine slowly declined over the years and this year I was finally put on medication for it and feel so much better! X

    • @MollyThompsonx_
      @MollyThompsonx_  2 года назад

      No they didn’t which I am a bit gutted about coz this would be miles easier & I do have a few friends that have had this, I’m gonna give the prescription a go but if not I might actually ask for the injection instead!

    I would watch Zanna Van Dijk’s videos about her low iron levels!! She has meneraga (very heavy periods) which caused her iron deficiency and caused her hair loss, it was super interesting to watch though ☺️

    Very common to have low iron and b12 if you are vegetarian or vegan as alot of iron is in red meat👍

    I saw a TikTok video a week or so ago from a girl who had got back from travelling in Asia and her hair started to fall out in clumps. She said it was because the shower water isn’t filtered in Asia and so really damaged her hair. Not sure if that’s what’s happened to you, but I thought I’d comment to let you know!

    Sorry for jumping the gun, but I am so excited to see your day at the races! My dad (and I) are fans and we even owned some very cheap racehorses in the USA for many years! In Europe I've been only to the lowly races in Malta and the "White Turf" races (on a frozen lake!) at St Moritz, which was very posh! Racing in the USA is quite casual, but in the UK it seems to me as much a society event as it is a wagering venue! Can't wait to see...Beverley Racecourse?

    • @MollyThompsonx_
      @MollyThompsonx_  2 года назад +1

      It definitely is a big event in the UK, we actually went to York Racecourse but Beverley does have one too - sadly I didn’t vlog it but it was on my insta story the other day! That’s cool to hear it’s so different in the US!

    I have low iron and b12 levels as well but I get so incredibly sick from iron supplements like I can't sleep because of how poorly I feel so it's kind of a never ending story as I only take them when I absolutely have to 😅 So if anyone has any suggestions how to cope with that, that would be really helpful :)

    If you're not eating meat then you really need to take a B12 supplement. As a vegan (I know you're veggie not vegan but still) I have taken B12 every day since I stopped eating meat, even when I'm eating fortified products like soya milk and meat substitutes and I'm sure anyone else whose vegan would say the same. You get b12 tablets everywhere but hopefully in a few weeks you'll have normal levels again.

    • @MollyThompsonx_
      @MollyThompsonx_  2 года назад +1

      You’re definitely right & when I first went veggie I was soooo much better for taking these tablets, I used to take the regular over the counter B12 all the time but clearly since stopping/going away it’s got a lot worse so hopefully these tablets help!

    Ooh love this vlog as always. Hope you a good day at the races. I can imagine your excited about the 1975 being at Leeds festival. B12 as well as the supplements dark green vegetables are good for it too like kale,spinach, broccoli etc. Hope you enjoy your weekend and the races. Your hair looks great x

    If you're having issues with hair loss/breakage, is it good idea to keep dying it?! That will definitely be contributing to it along with low iron levels.
    You probably already know, but you should make an effort to eat more foods that are high in iron. Having low iron levels is not good for anyone even if that's the "norm" for you. It's not normal for anyone as it will have long lasting effects if you let it continue for too long.
    Hope that didn't come across like you were being told off 🤣🤣

    • @MollyThompsonx_
      @MollyThompsonx_  2 года назад +2

      Hey!! No it doesn’t haha & I totally agree, but because this has happened when I wasn’t dying my hair I know it isn’t the hair dye that’s causing it, and my hairdresser wouldn’t dye it if she thought it was making it worse - it’s coming out from the scalp & the blonde doesn’t go as high up as my actual root root/my scalp, but I do definitely think it’s worth thinking about (and will see how it continues) - my iron levels have been low my whole life but never dangerously so, just on & off taking regular over the counter iron tablets throughout my life - but now obviously will need to take this more seriously !
