I just downloaded the calendar that you made for us to use and wow!! You put in a lot of time getting all those days together and getting that lined up for us!! Thank you SO much. Your time and the work that you put in are sincerely appreciated. Signed up for your news and updates as well. Thank you again. Randy in Pittsburgh, PA
Charles I agree with all your information, maybe because I work very similar way, great video, yap auto focus is sometimes pain when I made self video also :( Thank You for sharing.
Thank you for the video, after watching the video on this channel I started thinking about the quality and concept of photos to sell to Shutterstock. 😁
Thanks for your great ideas! My unfair advantage is living in Queensland, Australia. 😊 Recently we had a tornado on the Gold Coast, on Christmas night! It was our first one, well, in my life time anyway. I put photos on Shutterstock and they have sold quite well. Mostly in Australia, but hey, it's better than nothing. 😁
I heard that there are not so many photographers there in Australia, so that is definiely an advantage! My photos from Gold Coast and Sydney from 2015 and 2017 made me a lot of money, although I am more focused on lifestyle content. And a great video again Charles. The two most important things in my opinion are story and video! We are trying to think of story more and more on our shoots!
Great advice as always. Ratio to being accepted to being rejected has improved dramatically since watching your channel, just need to do more that will sell lol. I enjoy your content, keep up the great work.
My unfair advantage is that I work in the film industry and it often gives me access to locations not many people have access to or not many people travel to while I mainly focus on landscape photography. :-)
My unfair advantage is that I am biologist climbing trees in Latin America in search of all stuff of bugs and more recently I am touring Europe in our van almost full time. Cheers and thanks.
Regarding video I have 2 questions - (1) which in your experience sells best HD or 4K? (2) How do I upload the same video in HD and 4k videos without breaking rules such as upscaling or down scaling?
I always upload in 4K or the best quality possible, if someone wants to buy the HD version the agencies take care of the downscaling I haven’t upscaled anything personally 🤷♂️
Very good video. I just have a question about keywords, it really matter to have as many as possible or just the tags that describe the picture or the video? Thank you
Thank you for your answer, I will do this, I shoot most wildlife and sometimes I have shots close-up of an animal, and it is hard to find many keywords@@wollertz
@@danieliovidiu answering those questions should give you a good start, remember the official names of the animals in Latin or whatever it is 😅. And where they live! Best of luck!
hey , im from indonesia, i find ur video from google search and such a good video from you , actually im looking for best phone camera to get into microstocking such as shutterstock etc, could you suggest me some of them? like iphone or sony , or google pixel. thankyou
There are many factors to consider. Your budget, are you planning on only shooting for stock or anything else? Lenses are more important than the camera in most cases. Also how much time are planing to dedicate to this? I know it doesn’t seem relevant, but stock takes years, and I don’t want to reccomend something without taking all of this into consideration.
@@wollertz I’m in the fashion industry , I’m a freelancer , so I have plenty of time . A lot of projects I work on , I source stock . I never really find what I’m looking for . I live in a great place with incredible view , another reason to pursue stock . Just as another vessel to explore my creativity . My budget is ok, but I want to crawl before I walk 😁 I have thousand of photos , not sure they are good enough . I want to give it at least 6 months to a year , before seriously investing . Then if it goes well . I can upgrade , I could still use the equipment , for trips and such . Thank you , for the feedback !
Thats where it gets complicated, for stock to make a profit its going to take years, you will need about 10000 good relevant photos online before you see a good return. When you say you want to see ow it goes before investing, then you'll never really know what could have happened. Most people start with a phone or entry level camera and when only a few photos get accepted and very few sell they think stock is not good, but it was their gear and atitude. There is a lot of competition using very expensive gear, I suggest, if you are serious about it start with the best you can afford and stick with it until you have at least 10000 photos @@lkay90888
Just for perspective I use a canon R5 with a 15-35mm 2.8, a 24+70mm 2.8 and a 70-200mm 2.8, macro lens, 100-400 telephoto, fisheye lens.I have lighting equipment, and s portable studio I use, drones, and a few other accessories, and its all been paid for with stock income
@@wollertz ok, thanks 🙏🏽 for all of the information. I truly enjoy photography. I will go forward with pursuing it . Even if it’s not necessarily stock, but at least I will know , what to expect 😍 You’re a great source , good videos and again thank you for laying out the facts 👍🏽
@@wollertz ok awesome 😎 I was wondering how that worked . One more question ? What if I were selling print on demand , on Amazon ? Would I still have to copy write them . By the way , I am taking pictures of my pets , with my iPhone . Pro max 15 , just test the waters . To see if my work , will even sell first . Thanks , so much , for the response 😊
Copyright is a good habit, but its not necessary, I would check with a lawyer for your specific situation, its different for everyone, as far as phone images, Ima. bit advocate for using a real camera for a business and stock photography is a business, you'll get out of it what you put in. Pet photos is a saturated market unless you can find a unique concept, other wise you are going to be waiting months before a sale, as it is it usually takes about 6 months for new users to generate sales, and thats uploading weekly.@@EvaJ976
Anything that could be miss used with children in a sexual manner, agencies will reject them or delete them so be very careful with images of children. Other than that I can’t really think of anything 🤷♂️
Story telling. I shot when i buy orange in the market. Then shot when i clean the orange. Then shot the whole orange. Then shot when i slice the orange. then shot when i make orange juice. Then shot a glass of orange juice. Hehehe
Good Video. For those watching, this guy knows what he's talking about. We've been in the stock biz for 20 years - this advice is good.

Do you have to Copywrite your photographs, before submission ?
No, the agencies try to stay on top of usage and protect them, you are giving the agencies the rights to sell them.
