I always tell my fellow musician friends that THE most important thing they should do is... listening. Listen to the song as whole, listen to whoever you're playing with. The song will tell you what it wants, and when. This is a clear example of that. There's a bajillion of grooves and tricks that could fit this song, but you kept it simple, because that's what the song asks for. "Less is more" is one of my favourite musical philosophies (coming from a guy that digs prog metal lol)
