      I read reviews for a week , and I have seen some of your Tram products , plus I remember that brand growing up , seems they’ve been around for a good while . I was curious myself , so I figured one good way to see the performance over the next several months before I do anything , was put it in the hands of someone that will be glad to test it out , it’s a win win 💪🏼🇺🇸

    I recently bought this antenna and like it very much. I had an Antron-99 for years and after the 2nd one finally fell apart I decided to try the Tram 1498. I especially like the mounting hardware and the fact it has an aluminum sleeve that covers the bottom preventing rain from falling directly onto the antenna connector. I also like the PVC construction vs fiberglass, as both of my A99's literally fell apart over the course of time so we'll see how the PVC design holds up to that of fiberglass. The cost of antennas in general are at an all-time high. I paid $80 a year ago for the Tram and as with everything, now they're even higher. My first Antron 99 back in 1989 cost $39.99 from Copper Electronics. Now they're $150.

      Same here. I also bought the Tram 1498 antenna several months ago and I really love the fact it has an aluminium sleeve covering the SO-239 antenna connector at the bottom. My old Solarcon A99 had an exposed antenna connector and despite wrapping it with amalgamated tape it still managed to get waterlogged over the years. IMO, providing an aluminium sleeve just makes good sense. So far, so good but it's only been a few months so we will see how it does in a year or two. I also like the PVC construction versus fibreglass but time will tell. EVerything has gotten very pricey but that is all related to China releasing their Wuhan virus. The whole world is now suffering because of them.

      I bought an Antron 99 back in the early 90s used off of a friend. I had the top fiberglass whip fall out of the top one time probably from all the moving in the wind.. I didn't know about it until a neighbor and I were outside and he happened to look up and noticed it. I went up on the roof and it was laying on the roof. I took the antenna down and screwed it back in and made sure it was in there tight. Another CB friend of mine bought an IMAX-2000 back when they came out. It's still up on his roof today but it snapped and broke at the first connection point. Guess the fiberglass finally gave out on it. The IMAX replaced a Shakesspeare Super Big Stick he had up on his roof for years after it finally crapped out.

      @@cheezst8ke I remember the Shakespeare Big Stick. The Shakespeare and the Antron were the two big sellers back in the day when it came to basic fiberglass CB antennas.

    • @cheezst8ke
      @cheezst8ke 2 года назад

      @@ComputerLearning0 yes they were. The Shakespeare Super Big Stick was a two piece antenna instead of three sections like the Antron 99. Also the Starduster antenna was another big seller back then too.

      I've had an Antron-99 for over 30 years now and it too started to go bad with the fiberglass. I got some of the fiberglass resin and brushed it on. It's still mounted on a mast and working just fine. I trimmed it down for 10 meters long ago. This Tram antenna looks better, thinking about getting one and playing with CB again.

      1.4:1 is considered a very acceptable SWR. I operate my radio as high as 2:1 and if you notice nearly all SWR meters don't even redline until they get above 2:1 (some even higher). If you operate strictly within the 40 channel CB range then 1.4:1 is considered very good - unless the thought of it is keeping you up at night. Then, by all means, there's no harm in trying to lower it even further... lol
