  • Hi all
    Video on building / putting up the Sirio 2016. I will do a follow up video as well regarding its SWR capabilities and show it in use as couldn't find anything on here regarding that.
    Enjoy and have a very Happy Christmas!
    73's catch you on the 'flip flop'!

    Just went and bought one of these. Looks very well made. That base section certainly has some weight to it. Had an antron 99 years ago but it eventually broke in the high winds. So after being off the radio for about 20 years I got back into it last year and been using 5/8th wave silver rod. So time for an upgrade. 😀

    Greetings.
    I watched this video with interest. I'm in Italy and my Lemm M5 broke due to strong winds. I currently have an old Falkos Uranus 27 mounted. The Sirio 2016 seems to be more resistant than the other antennas.
    After years of use what do you think?
    Can it be used without tie rods?
    Greetings

    That Sirio 2016 will absolutely smoke the Antron! I just put one up and it was far superior to the Gainmaster HW & 5/8 version. And no RFI issues.

    I was going to purchase one of these antennas 2016 but was outta stock so i picked up the Sirio 827 im very pleased with its performance. Ive had the maco V 5/8's and the super penetrator 500. The Sirio 827 out performs both durability and performance both receive and transmit and tunning is better. I only wish it had a higher power capability. I have up to 5k to use.

    Today i removed my trusty Antron a99 and switched it with a Sirio Gain Master which is a Fibre Optic antenna that needs no tuning or radials. I think they call the Sirio Gain Master a vertical dipole antenna and because of no tuning it is installed and the antenna will already be on 1 on 1 for me ofcourse but i highly recommend the Sirio Gain Master! It is an awesome Fibre Optic Glass antenna!

    Excellent video, my antron is a 25 year old one which has started to bend at the bottom section threading.
    I have the Antron 38FT up on an alloy pole. I thought it may have been a quick switcheroo and in with the sirio but the weight of that bottom heavy coil has me wondering.
    I think it's a three- point- guy job mate just to be safe. May as well replace the coax while I'm up there with some Messi and Paoloni to save me having to take it down again as its a big antenna and big job for me on my own.

    Hi mate good video , just got hold of a 2016, I have an antron 99 (20yr old unbent one) which has seen better days. These newer Antron sellers have a cheek... Yeah its made like that so just accept it lol..
    I have a 20Ft mast mounted 18FT High on a T and K spaced 3 1/2FT apart. The brackets are drilled in with expanding Rawl you have only with 6 inch long ones.
    My alloy mast walk thickness is a bit thin for a 20FT Mast. I'm worried about the weight of the sirio 2016 coiled section on top of this big bendy mast.
    Do you reckon guy lines would soive my problem?

    • @britishcbradio1055
      @britishcbradio1055  3 года назад

      Guys would help but then you have the problem of running them as if your mast is suspected as being weak you would ideally need them 1/2 way to 3/4's of the way up the mast. If the 20 ft mast is the concern then better to get some stronger poles, not sure fo the wall thickness of what you got but if you measure it with a vernier and find out what it is you can compare it with the spec of the standard and heavy duty "swaged" poles shown on knights website. You may find it is actually the same thickness as the standard ones so it may be ok. You could also drop it down another couple of fett and mount an additional K bracket in order to really strengthen it. Hope this gives you some ideas but firstly check the wall thickness against the poles sold at knights and see where you sit. Google knights cb radio shop if you don't know them. Let em know how you go and any more questions just message. I put three mountings on mine (2 x K, 1 x T) and mines a lot lower but it doesn't move at all in the wind.

    Those poles are much better quality than anything I have here - really thick wall. Will take a look at Knights when I need more. Edit: You could have put the poles the other way up - no need to cut them. That's how I do it, as I can leave the end swaged bit at the bottom under the wall brackets.

    Hmmm, before many years, this antenna was great piece of HW. Now i see, they change the big cooil for autotransformer - cheapest solution ever. Well i do not hate any antennas, but the old 2016, real 5/8 was on 4.th place in antenna compare in my country, in real tests. First was A-99, then old Black Pirate, then GainMaster, then 2016. But this cheap version, wich is shorter than original 2016, cant be as good like the old original. Bad news, for todays CB guys. For this price A-99 or IMAX-2000 is clear solution.

    • @britishcbradio1055
      @britishcbradio1055  2 года назад

      Hi Johny, thanks for your hmmm comment, but i must respond on a couple of points here. Any antenna anyone buys will perform different to another as its not just down to the aerial you buy from an antenna pole, buyers have to consider mounting location, exposure to wind, neighbours and how high they are ASL and how high they mount it. In addition its also down to personal feel and choice. Now i previously owned an Antron 99 and can say i get out better on my 2016 as Spain was a no no for me before i got this aerial. Not sure on the autotransformer / length comment so no idea if it has changed but the big coil has always been present on the 2016 for as far back as i can remember. If you look round the net u see gainmasters snapping in high winds so all aerials can suffere issues, go to buy a new antron 99 and they will say it may come bent as that is how they are being made / sold. Went on your channel to see if you had done a video on this aerial or the others mentioned but no videos at all on your channel, so good opportunity to put one together and post one up. As you can see in my video i only had one part on the house i could put an aerial up on so theres another factor i had to consider.

      @@britishcbradio1055 Sorry for my bad ENG. Never learn this lang. in school. Big coil = pass thru coil, not autotransformer, like your antena - autotransformer is coil which was use on cheapest antennas before many years. I was dont think, i will see this type of coils any more. Well Sirio is showing me, that nothing is impossible. Original 2016 use pass thru coil, with my ENG skills im not able to explain you, why it is much much better. But belive me, it is and the diference is huge. This new 2016 use so called autotransformer - coil, which have somewhere in cca midle conected "turnoff" where is central wire from coax conected. This solution was use first time on cheapest 1/2 and 5/8 in 90s. It have bigest losses ever. Maybe even ground plane can perform better than this. This kind of coils have one advantage - they can tune almost any radiator lenght... but, there is a problem. Radiator lenght is a solid number, which is bad idea to change. If you change it, you do deform the radiating diagram. So, with autotransformer, is easy to build antenna for Sirio, it easier to tune for user, but the gain in best direction is lost, deformed and is smaller. It is just worst idea like to build 5/8 antenna.

    I put this antenna at 55feet and the antenna broke after 3 months.Piece of shit,that is what it is.I got this as an upgrade over the antron 99,but this antenna is very fragile.Got a new max 2000 and raised it at 70 feet high.Been 2 years now and survived everything,no problem.Serio never again

      Hi Michael, not sure you can blame the antenna if assembled correctly and put right up it shouild be fine, mine is still going strong and never had this hapeen toone of mine unless you had a faulty one from the factory. Did you not contact Sirio about the fault?
      If it got damaged in high winds then there is a specific wind rating for an antenna and in the UK if we have exceptionally strong winds a lot of us will take them down completley or drop them down if the wind is likely to exceed the antennas specified rating. Shame it happened but even a fibreglass antenna has its limit so take care, but hey you got another aerial and back on the air so thats the main thing.

      @@britishcbradio1055 Well i am in Canada and weather here is very harsh.We have thunder storms in the summer with winds over 100 km easy,and in winter its even worst.had a mako 3 radial beem that lasted 10 days at only 40 feet high.I am in a valley and nothing holds up over here.Shakespeare Big stick and antron 99 are about the only antenna that survives over here,even my max 2000 in big trouble sometimes

      @@michelst-jacques9555 Maybe a winch down tower may be the way to go if you can fix one up, that way you can then drop the aerial down if you have any strong winds coming and save your aerials.
