that's true but the most delusion and cringe I've seen is in the weightlifting community. Without a doubt.

Lifting in the gym is for building basic stats for your training. I don't understand this whole idea that you can ONLY lift OR train, not both.
For real. A big boy who trains even just the basics is absolutely terrifying on the mat.
This is a dumb post but he is specifying bodybuilding and not lifting. I’m sure this guy and many other competitive Judoka lift.
A bodybuilder is someone who trains to be as big as possible, witch hurts athletic performance and pound for pound strength, lifting athletically + martial arts>>>>>>

Traditional Martial Arts mindset. If you are big and strong enough you can beat technique, I am talking Brian Shaw level lol.
Better to do boxing+judo+gym. If you have any time. But if you don't just do judo. (Created some kind of war. For those dudes who sayin' just join mma.. They are right and not right. MMA trains every main martial art you need to know and you can combine, and it doesn't considers as martial art. You don't train judo in mma, but you train boxing, bjj, wrestling, kickboxing, and some taekwondo. What i'm saying is what boxing and judo is ultimate combination for defending yourself, and mma is combination of martial arts. Why train all kind of martial ats, then you can choose only 2 important for yourself? MMA can help too, but just boxing and judo is good. Gym increases endurance and maybe stamina, but it doesn't train how to attack or defend or even counter. So combine boxing+judo+gym).
Yeah, in real life situation you still need striking to close up the distance for grappling

I'd say calisthenics is better for fighting.
@@irisbeyes2927 if it's not a joke i would say it's not true. It only increases your endurance and stamina.(if for fighting abilities)

But I don't see what comparison there is between Judo and body building? 2 totally different things, done for different reasons. Sounds like the poster has a complex about bigger stronger dudes, even though bodybuilders are not training to fight.
Maybe you should start comparing other things that are just as similar, like playing the ukulele doesn't prepare you to swim. Lol Geezus.

@kKADENnn yeah bjj too, as well as Sambo, Leithwei, Kudo, Kickboxing, and certain forms of Karate like Kyokushin, all the martial arts we've listed so far are the ones that, in my research, have been proven effective in real fights, find a good gym in any one of these and train for like a year, and you'll find yourself capable of fighting off most people if need be (it's important to remember though that fighting at all should always be the absolute last resort, de-escalation and trying leave always comes first)

@@ofauvi2089I’ve been powerlifting for 6 years and know I certainly can’t beat a martial artist. Skill over everything
Honestly many martial artists seem super insecure about their lack of muscle mass. I’ve seen so many bodybuilders say a highly skilled martial artist could beat them. I very rarely see martial artists admit that a very strong bodybuilder could hurt them even without technique. I think it comes down to the fact that fighters cultivate large egos, in order to fight against well trained opponents.
100% I’ve mixed with both communities most body builders I met “nah man couldn’t fight my way out of wet paper bag but I enjoy what I do”

I don’t know man…many times I visited regular gyms the guys for some strange reason look at me in assertive dominant look like they are somehow better. Opposites are martial arts gym where people are happy and do not try to put you down with their look. Maybe bcuz they actually know how to put you down physically and so called bodybuilders don’t. However it’s obvious that as 65kg Mma beginner I don’t think I can beat up 120kg bodybuilder. There is always a chance of lucky strike bcuz you can’t put muscles on the jaw right. Weight lifting is extreme useful in martial arts journey as well. Strength matters. So yeah it’s good to do both.
Huge respect to Judokas and all martial artists, you guys are very tough and functionally athletic ! But Bodybuilding, Powerlifting and other strength sports are not just optic. Now,they will not make you prolific in fighting or self-defense, so goals matter, of course ! But they can be pretty functional, especially combined with some gymnastic Input. I have a physically demanding job and increased strength and muscle, especially in back, core and legs have served me well over the years, kept me save, stable and protected from certain stress. Safety can also be controlled very well with good technique, especially as a non-competitor pushing more moderatly for progress. I love lifting ! It gets too much hate sometimes :D
Judo is supposed to be about respect, personal growth, building the community. Not about “learning to fight” and making yourself a weapon so you can hurt people, or putting down other completely different sports/athletics. I would encourage anyone to take steps to get healthier and more active, whether it’s martial arts training or just getting on a stationary bike. If someone REALLY wants to learn how to fight I’d probably recommend mma. Totally the wrong message my guys.

In my life I practiced Japanese Jiu Jitsu, Krav Maga, Combat Sambo, Judo and most recently Boxing, and to my liking the most exciting and just the best (and also the hardest) was, is and probably would be Judo. Don't get me wrong, everything else from that list is also absolutely worth practicing, and I love it all, but Judo "is class", Judo "is another level" =) My father in law here in Ukraine was a competing Judo practitioner, in the 80's and 90's he had to defend himself many a time (criminality level was through the roof back then), and by his words at least he never had any problems doing that using his judo, not even against local competing boxers. I'm not in any way trying to cast a shadow on boxing or any other martial art, I encourage everybody try several and find what suites you, what resonates with your phisical abilities and mindset, martial art is a thing I'm sure even on some super casual level but a nessesary thing for everybody (girls included) to try out and just feel your body and mind and confidence like you could not do any other way, it enriches a person not less than books, chess, education, art etc. I mean it and I'm confident this is an objective truth.
