As hurricane Beryl makes it's way to Mexico cruise lines are making moves to avoid the storm. Hurricane Beryl is now a Category 4 and one of the strongest storms every recorded in the month of June.

From South Louisiana, now live in the Houston area, so I’ve lived through quite a few hurricanes. A HURRICANE IS NOT JUST A BIG THUNDERSTORM! If your captain changes the itinerary to avoid one, thank him.
Yes! How people could complain about their ship avoiding a major event, is beyond me.
Yea, and hopefully the Captain isn't a jackass and sailed the ship into a Category 3 Hurricane not too long ago, putting all on board in danger. It doesn't matter if the ship can handle a Cat 3 or 4 Hurricane or not, it's the people lives onboard and crew that's what matters.
Good grief! I can’t believe anyone would complain because a captain avoided a hurricane!!!! That is just playing stupidity!!!!!
Fingers are crossed for all the cruisers and the countries affected.
Safety first. No argue about it.
It is so sad to see all the damage in the islands. Praying for them.
If those jellyfish are so rare, how do they manage to meet up to reproduce? It must be a lonely life.
I’m glad the cruise lines keep a close watch on the storms and change their itineraries as needed.
It is one of the reasons I cruise. The ships have instruments to gauge what is happening. I appreciate that, and we can go somewhere safe.
Just a little storm Forget Faro go for it
I'm on Icon now and we were rerouted and are having a great cruise! I'd much rather switch ports and have nice weather than head to my original ports and have bad weather!
Potentially life threatening weather.
For a hurricaine, I'll be quite fine changing ports.
Beryl is now a CAT 5 hurricane as of today
It's great the cruise lines are proactive when it comes to these storms and passenger safety.
I am currently on Icon... instead of going to St Marteen and St. Thomas we went to Cozumel and Costa Maya. Beautiful weather since sailing on Saturday.
On Harmony right now, we had to miss Roatan but still having a great time.
It is very wise that the cruise lines take care to keep everyone safe. Some people are just looking to get as much as possible free. They should be thankful they are out of harms way!!
Hoping everyone stays safe, absolutely change itinerary!
Now a category 5. Praying for the people in it's path.
I just want to be on a cruise. Missing a desired port of call is disappointing, but I am one of those odd ones that enjoy the ship more so than the ports of call. So if my ship got diverted, as long as we are safe and the waters are relatively calm, I am fine with it. My daughter and her husband are supposed to fly to San Juan on Wednesday of next week for a 2nd honeymoon. Beryl will be past by then and Puerto Rico is not supposed to get hit that hard by Beryl, but we are hearing of another tropical storm bearing down on the Caribbean. We send our wishes of safety to all in the Caribbean, whether land or sea.
We was on a cruise around twenty years ago. A seven night cruise on Royal Caribbean. It got extended to a nine nigh cruise because of a hurricane. Port Canaveral was damaged so they had to leave us at Miami. Then we rode a bus to Orlando airport. It was a little stressful at the time because of flights and our jobs we had. Back then we didn’t have internet. 😂 We had an extra day at sea and a stop in Haiti at that private beach spot.
I don’t mind rerouting the destination at all, safety is first priority.
Hoping Carnival’s brawls aren’t interrupted by the hurricane!
I have 100 bucks on the Hurricane! 😂
😂😅.
Praying for all in the path of hurricanes.
Thats a part of cruising
yes, Don spread FEAR !!!!!!
Why cannot Don pronounce the name of the hurricane correctly, both today and yesterday? It is BERYL not Bell.
Cruise lines are doing the right thing, staying safe.
Beryl was upgraded to Cat 5 late Monday night at about 23:00. And during afternoon of Tuesday, it is down to Cat 4, but barerly, 2kmh wind speed below being cat 5. Much uncertainty on strength, but track is fairly condident.
It isn't just avoiding the hurricane itself, but you also need to have a functioning port/city where you dock after huricane. (Which is why I am puzzled on a ship still going to Jamaica).
I am sailing on the Carnival Horizon and we do have an itinerary change due to the storm. Grand Cayman has been cancelled as well as Cozumel.
I have a couple of friends that have condos on a belize cay. Eek!
Enchanted Princess skipped Belize, instead Roatan today, changedCozumel to tomorrow and will go to Nassau on Friday. All is well here ….
We don’t get off of the ship anymore after eight visits to the same ports where done with everything there so it would not hurt my feelings if they changed the itinerary on our cruise, but it’s not until September
Is your CAPS LOCK key stuck? Sure looks like it. Take a calming breath.
safety first
DON I RATHER be safe. Going in September on 22nd on wonder of seas. So looking forward to it.
Eastern Caribbean. If it changes it changes i have no issues with keeping passengers safe.
Its surprising how people's perspective on storms at sea alters. I've just read a post from a passenger saying she's terrified of 'the worst' because of the movement, while another on the same ship questioned whether she is actually on it as according to her "its rock steady"
One will be a first timer and the other a seasoned traveller.
The Hurricane Beryl is now a Category 5, they say on the news. Glad that the cruiselines take steps to avoid these types of weather issues. We pray for the safety of all. We prefer not to sail in the summer months when most of the hurricanes occur. Thanks for the update, though, Don.
Rather be safe!
Safety first, and then enjoy the adventure at whatever port you can make!
Kudos to the cruiselines for keeping their guests safe from the monster known as Beryl.
I'm glad cruse lines stay very far away from any hurricane
I will be on the Beyond leaving next Friday. Praying the storms take a break!
We wouldn't mind a change in itinerary at all as long we were safe. You might see something cool and unexpected in the different ports. Those people were very fortunate they got to see that jelly fish. That would have been amazing.
Thank you for sharing your video with us and it’s the Cruz life we had no problem on the cruise ship when we had some storms around us or we avoided them. We felt perfectly fine on a cruise ship during these times a little said when we had to miss a port, but hey, we enjoyed being on a ship. Thanks again.❤❤❤🙏🏼🛳️🦩⚓️
Yeah I'd take being safe, thanks
hurricanes are no joke.
That is one huge jellyfish
It looks amazing but I'm surprised they are still doing cruises in Antarctica at this time of year. It's winter in the southern hemisphere.
Mother nature can rear her not so nice side. Thank goodness captains change itinerary. People should know when that happens it's for there best interest. Wow tha t s a big jellyfish
I am with you and would love to see God's creators and all the wildlife!!
I vote for staying Safe
Hope all is safe from Hurricane
Jelly fish are so amazing. What lucky cruisers to see such a creature. Even small ones in a tank are hypnotic.
The sting.
Absolutely doing the correct thing, These companies have a duty of care to protect their customers and staff, not to mention their assets. The Carribbean as lovely as some parts are isn't worth the risk of passengers or staff being injured if the ship is being flipped about. Sensible decision. Find some sun in another location out at sea, have fun on the ship.
Keep me safe! Although if I had to miss a port anywhere besides the Caribbean (I’ve been to most all of them), I would be disappointed.
Better to be safe than sorry. If you've done your research you know the consequences during hurricane season.
Safety is always the priority. There are risks associated with travelling to the Caribbean during Hurricane Season. If the itinerary changes, blame Mother Nature and count your blessings.
All that seeding the clouds stuff really messes with the weather.
I love cruising during hurricane season. There’s always a gentle rock on the older ships and I trust the captains with my safety.
I would be more upset if they didn't avoid the hurricane
I say lets go directly into the hurricane. Cruise ships can handle them well if everything's secured
@@icewallflatearth1158sure…with thousands of people at risk, let’s sail into a hurricane. 🙄
@@icewallflatearth1158not a bright comment
@@katherinedemott298 cruise ships are designed to travel in cat 5 hurricanes with ease.. One should be outfitted with everything bolted down ..i would go on it .. Once you get to The eye of the storm everything is flat calm for miles and miles..
@@icewallflatearth1158 passengers are not comfortable in high seas. Seasickness, and hard to walk when the ship is rocking. The eye of the storm is not always miles and miles. Some are very small. And the eye passes rather quickly. I have been thru multiple hurricanes on land. One had an eye only 10 miles wide. Yet terrible with 200 mph winds.
Better safe than sorry, they do a good job keeping passengers safe.
As long as the captain is avoiding the danger, I don't have a problem with a change in destinations. 😊
Safety first. I wouldn't go in hurricane season
One of the reasons I cruise is because the ship's instrumentation can detect adverse conditions.
Lets face it, the cruise lines not only are changing the schedules because of the safety of the passengers, BUT mainly the safety of the multiple Billion dollar ship(s) AND the BAD news of "something happening" to the industry.
Hello Don,
I'm on the Enchanted Princess, and they cancelled our stop in Belize city, move Cozumel 1 day ahead, and going to Nassau, instead.
I just got off the horizon today. They changed our itinerary. Still enjoyed my vacation.
I'm glad I'm not cruising now!! We will, however, be sailing in October to the Bahamas which is still hurricane season!! Fingers crossed we don't have a worry!!
Safety is the most important thing. I don’t mind reroute, as long as I am on the cruise 😂
I will be on the NCL Jade 7/13-7/20, so let’s see how that goes. Thanks Don for the info
Hi Don, I am taking a 12 night cruise to Fiji via Noumea in August and they just informed us that they are not going to Noumea because of the unrest. I was thankful that we are not going there. They have offered us a $300 onboard credit so I’m happy about that
If I were in the situation where the itinerary was changed for our safety, I'd just consider it a different adventure. I love cruising so as long as I'm safe at sea, I honesty would welcome an evasive itinerary! And I wouldn't even CONSIDER expecting compensation!!! How self-centered is that???
❤❤Don love your pod cast..
However I’m concerned for you! Your eye looks inflamed and red. May check for pink eye. Hopefully it’s just irritated but I thought I should point that out.❤
Much love to you and I hope I see you on a cruise someday. I may book one of your group cruises once I’ve sorted out my health issues.
God bless you and love to you and your family ❤
Denise💞
Oh my, I'd be pretty upset if all planned ports change. When I cruise I pick the destination and ports very very carefully, and because I'm a solo cruiser I spend a massive amount of money that takes me a very long time to save. BUT, in the case of eminent danger I absolutely 100% unequivocally support the cruise line in the decision they've had to painfully make. It's unfortunate, but it is indeed very necessary. And NO, I won't be asking for compensation in the place of a port change. If we had to turn around and end the cruise only a day or 2 in then regardless, I would indeed be requesting my money back. Not because I'm mad or anything of the sort, but because the ship is not out there burning fuel and feeding and entertaining passengers that they would require compensation from me.
Would rather the cruise ships travel in a safer pathway if they need to change the itineraries during a hurricane or other storm.
Have had to skip ports before. disappointing, but understandable.
Think you may be booking that Antarctic Expedition Cruise before too long...sounds like you are close!
Some years ago we sailed out of Ft. Lauderdale into a hurricane. It made for a very interesting and adventurous first day at sea. Great fun. But I noticed the ship's photographer taking pictures of the lines of passengers at the Muster Drill as if to make an official record.. (Yes...this was the Old Days)
Very cool about spotting the rare jellyfish! Wonder who was the eagle-eyed nature aficionado who saw and recognized it? Hope they got some good pics and/or videos!
I would rather be safe. I thrive on change of scenery. I love cruising. I also cruise for the people I am with. Chances are, changing ports would just.give me a place I havent been to.
For what the news said carnival isn’t out in sea. We were all like phew, if anything they go around it. But I rather be safe on the ship 🛳️ when there’s a storm. Thank your captain 🎉 for keeping y’all safe.
Safe is no 1 . But if you travel the Caribbean/Florida July-Oct you should expect there may be some disruption , so in this case I don’t think cruise lines can be held responsible and be asked for compensation . It is a known risk .
I don't mind if the itinerary changes, that happened to me during hurricane David many years ago, no problem,
All though I don't want this to ever affect us, just knowing this brings some reassurance to me and hope the same for others as well. Thank you, Don, for telling us how it generally works.
Changes in itineraries are usually done for passenger safety. Thanks for the cruise update Don
What happens if your ship gets diverted to American ports and you don’t have an ESTA?
Would I be upset if the itinerary got changed… I guess that depends. If they know ahead of time… I think they should give people the option to do the new itinerary or get credit for a different sailing. I know it’s not the cruise’s fault but a lot of people go for a specific port. If it was after setting sail that the itinerary changed… yeah! Great! Change ports and keep me safe! I would not ask for any compensation at that point because the cruise line did 100% everything they could do to keep me safe! Good on ya!
People are so greedy, always looking to get compensated for anything and everything.
The cruise lines seem to do a great job keeping their ships and passengers safe during hurricane season. If one doesn’t want a high chance of itinerary changes, it’s probably a good idea to not book a cruise during hurricane season. If itinerary changes aren’t a concern, no worries. Usually any day on a cruise ship is better than on land 😊
MAS leaving Tampa today is rerouting to Nassau instead of Cozomel.
I would be upset, but I understand safety first. I would love to see unusual wildlife!
I'm really hoping that this hurricane season is not as bad as they're predicting. I'd be sad to miss my expected itinerary, but there's no way I want to sail into the path of a hurricane!
Eh RC is notorious for driving right into storms. Its happened many times. I don't trust them at all!
I feel sorry for the people on land that are affected by the hurricane. Of course safety first always on the ships.
I will roll with punches. I'm on vacation. It is not as important as someone who lives there. Just hope all the residents of the areas can make it through safe.
Hi Don that should be an easy one for anyone safety always comes first cheers Don
It’s disappointing to hear of people who straight away want compensation for being kept safe. Sadly there are the entitled who have no idea of the devastating effect on people who have lost their homes and all they possess in a hurricane, as compared to a change of itinerary on a cruise ship
Typical stock market investors: Hurricanes bad, less cruise ships, sell my stock. Or.... hold on to your stock which will go up in value after hurricane season.
Cruises in hurricane season can be rough and depending on the ports hopefully it’s not a port you want to go to because you might not go there.
Storms and cruising, it’s all part of the adventure.
I won't be in Taino Bay till the 8th! Do you think this storm will affect us?
Don the hurricane is now a cat 5 ,the destruction from this hurricane will change many more islands!
Jamaica getting ready to be hit with a level 4 or 5 in the next day or two. It will be out of order for at least a week or two I would think.
If you are going to go into the same amount of ports. It would be fine. If not, I want to be compensated
Doesn’t that seem unreal to have jellyfish that huge?
