While I admire people’s creativity and artistic talents, many have forgotten the actual purpose of the bullet journal. Too many videos focus on the art, font, stickers etc. This is by far the best video I’ve seen explaining the bullet journal and how it works. It’s not always about how pretty it looks, and we shouldn’t make it a project too big to handle with elaborate or complicated layouts. It then becomes a chore we can’t keep up with instead of a soothing practice to organize our life.
Yes, also, mess it up in the beginning. If you're afraid of mess it up, you're going to be too afraid to use it (like if you do something artsy and don't want to mess it up or write something wrong.) Mine has like 3 pages where I wrote the layout wrong. I just keep them like doodling or testing pages🤷♀️
This is my third year of bullet journals, and it’s become essential to me. I recommend it for those who suffer from anxiety, depression, can’t keep track of things, need help to quiet their mind...It took a long time to train that muscle to form habit. It took a long time to simplify my journal down to what is important to my life. The hardest part is starting - it seems scary and hard. It’s not at all! Start with a cheap note book, because the first one is going to be your worst. When I got the hang of it, I started a new book of higher quality, and by then I knew how I wanted to plan out my book, and each new book as I fill them, changes as my life evolves. Five minutes every morning helps me plan out my day. I’m forever jotting down notes, now I make notes in one place. I don’t miss appointments. The lessons I’ve learned from bullet journaling, has fine-tuned productivity planning on my phone.
I didnt even know this was "a thing" but omg i am so glad i found it! I cant wait to start. Trying to learn as much as i can about it as beginner but thats what im hoping and feeling like it will help calm my mind, ease my anxiety and help with overwhelming thougbts when im thinking of all the stuff i have to do. Truly believe this will be great for me
Thank you for the tips. It's going to be my first time trying it out, i'm not gonna lie it's a little intimidating. and by watching this video gave me confidence to try it out. Also what gave me a motivation knowing that the author also suffers from ADD/ADHD and he created that tool so maybe thats something that would work for me.
Bro... of all the videos I've watched to understand the bullet journal, your video is, by far, the easiest to understand and allowed me to have confidence in giving it ago. Thanks you for the very easy steps! Thank you so much!
Same! All the interviews with Ryder Carroll didn't give me a more precise view on it. Only the Trailer video of Ryder Carroll's youtube channel but it didn't cover all the things in this video here.
This is, by far, the best and easiest to follow and understand explanation of the Bullet Journal! I particularly appreciate the explanation on Migrating. A thousand thank yous for a simple, nimble and powerful summary of BuJo!
Okay after falling into the rabbit hole of a million bullet journal videos here on youtube, I finally get it!! I finally get what the fuss is about. It's about migration, keeping track, constant review and not chucking "old" tasks to the side. IT'S A SYSTEM, all the pretty art journal type stuff confuses this system in my opinion, it makes it harder to grasp that this is a system to store tasks effectively.
I am so happy to see this. My sister and I started our BuJo journey in April. We lost my sweet sister to cancer at the end of June. I really need to pick it back up but it is breaking my heart. I needed a refresher, a re-focus on why I started it in the first place. This is clear, stating the core of the process, where I had gotten a little too foo-foo with my love of pens and stationery accessories. Thank you so so much!
Best explanation I've found of the Bullet Journal method. While many people enjoy the artistic side of journalling, it's not core to the process. This covers all you need to know.
Man I love your videos. Very high quality content. Clear and easy to follow. Your explanation is awesome. I am a huge fan of BuJO. It takes some time to get used to it but it's a great system. Btw Nathan one video I really want to see from you is "How to read effectively." Share your method with us. I am very curious to see how you go over so many books in such short time. That consistency is amazing man!!!
This is top quality content, brilliantly explained, neatly illustrated and probably the best 10 minutes I've spent today. I can't thank you enough for helping me get such a clear understanding of the BuJo method. I've been sitting since morning thinking how to start. Thankyou once again. So grateful. ❤️
Thanks for the summary/ refresher! It made me realize I started neglecting the "migrate" action for tasks a couple months ago. You just eliminated a bunch of unnecessary page flipping with that reminder.
I've been trying to wrap my head around what exactly is bullet journaling and how do I start. Your video is by far, the best video I've found on RUclips that does exactly that. I feel that I can now actually start a bullet journal, start to focus and the benefits from it. Thank you so much!!! Great slide/presi too by the way.
Thank you for such a clear explanation of the Bullet Journal process - the visuals were also excellent and the pace spot-on! It summarised everything I need to get me started.
In 1983 I started an early bullet journal system with index cards (LOL) and continued until I retired and moved to Arizona Dec 20th 2013. I had 12 shoe boxes all indexed by month. I paid to have all my cards scanned: My life has been digitized. The Bullet Journal would have so much easier and reliable!
Outline of the Bullet Journal Method: 1. Rapid Logging - Use symbols and short-form notation 2. Migrating - Similar to deciding what to keep when moving from one home to another, rewrite today's tasks you didn't finish for another time 3. Indexing - Create a dynamic table of contents at the front of your journal for your projects or special lists
I have been using the Bullet Journal on and off for a past few months now and slowly drift away from it each time. Your video truly helped me understand what I was missing, so thank you for taking the time to post.
Indeed a straightforward explanation of The Bullet Journal! I have been using it without knowing its simplicity this far. And it's been a couple of years now that I m using it!! I was a caveman in a cave, and now I am a modernized Apeman! Thanks for a wonderful explanation of your understanding.
Thank you thank you thank you for not ruining this -- and making it completely and accessible to people with hearing and neurological disabilities -- by adding stupid music!
THANK YOU!!! I’ve been trying to find something with a streamlined explanation. Everything is how to draw this or that spread and using tons of colors and themes and I was so confused. It was beautiful but confusing. Have a great day everyone💕✨
This is the first video, where I get the point of how to start, very easy step by step instruction, for real beginners. Thank You. Started Today my Journey of Journal :)
I really admire your job. All your videos are very good. I usually don't comment any videos but, please, don't forget the subtitles next time. It's easier for those of us who don't speak english fluently. It's easier to read english than to listen to it. Thanks! Keep up the good work.
Thanks for breaking this down very simply. When I did use the daily planners that are in the stores, there always seemed to be something more I wanted or needed to organize. This method helps me have what I want in a journal.
Thank you soooo much for this wonderfully clear breakdown and explanation. I have been using the Franklin Covey planning system for years now in a ringed binder, but within the planner community there is a "One Book Challenge" about to kickoff for 2019 recommending participants try the bullet journal method for the month of July. So this is PERFECT timing. I plan on giving it a go. Thank you again and I hope you will do more videos on bullet journaling.
Thank you for the video and i really recommend reading the book if you really want to know more about bujo. This video really simplified and summarized the system while focusing on the main points of doing the journal. Thank you!
I had derived similar method for my daily work past decade, but was very inefficient for my latest job, which is very dynamic and full of very important and specific data. Speed of migrating and indexing was an issue, because most of the time I was migrating same things. I had shifted on using mindmaps applications that sync on Android and PC. It is faster and easier to organize, reorganize, track, migrate, aggregate, meta link, hyperlink. Indexing is just a breeze and most beautiful thing is that if specific note taking is not suitable for specific project or subject, you can easily rearrange everything without physically rewriting everything.
This is one of the best summaries of the Bullet Journal on RUclips. However, at the end of the day, if I do not migrate them to the next daily log or the future log, I do not migrate my uncompleted tasks to the monthly log pages. I simply leave them in the past daily logs and use them as part of the monthly log. It saves a lot of unnecessary rewriting. At the end of the month, any unfinished tasks I still want to do gets migrated to the next monthly log as Ryder Carroll suggested.
I've moved house 16 times in 18 months. I still think I have too much stuff! 6 boxes has become too much stuff, and maybe that is true of my bullet journal too. I still feel like I try to do and migrate too much stuff, but perhaps my sense of too much is also changing. One month isn't enough to evaluate how a bullet journal will work for you. I think you adapt them to be your own over time, and that is where they really shine. A normal diary in inflexible, but you don't have to think much about your needs. A bullet journal is very flexible and can really boost productivity, but you need to figure out what you want it to do. That said, I love the simplicity and essential view of them you gave here. If you search for bullet journals online, it is way to easy to be overwhelmed by all the stuff arty journalling folk do, but this is the core of bullet journaling. Great Job, Nathan.
Wow! Others makes it so complicated with the habit trackers and whatnot. I watched the original vid but I had a hard time understanding. This was very good and I would want to try this.
I'm totally new to this. It's a bit overwhelming but I'm slowly getting the concept and I LOVE it. Looking forward to watching future videos. Thank you!!!
I think the arrow to the right should be reserved for the monthly tasks list. Now it's confusing. When migrating to the next day, I would use a ⬇️ arrow down. This way you can also see what task you keep transferring to the next days
I think this explanation is even better than the original Ryder in so many ways. I'm still wondering why considering that it's a planner, nothing talk about Mettings/Appointements. I know they could be called Events but I see a very big difference between them. Each time I listen or read Ryder, he always talks about something that happens like in your video but not something that will occur like doctor appointment. I know that everybody can bend the bullet journal to every forms but in my day to day, appointments are a cornerstone. I use triangle as a symbol for them like we can see out there. But again, I'm stumble that this type of event is not described in the book.
Great job on your video. Keep up the great work! Best overview of bujo I’ve seen. This will help me better tweak my hybrid system of Michael Hyatt Full Focus Planner using some bujo principles and Asana for work collaboration and long term task capture.

You said exactly what was on my mind. This video made it so much easier to understand and gave me the courage to actually start this.

Amen. Out of all my other practical uses for my bullet journal, tracking depression-related issues and triggers has literally changed my life.
I didnt even know this was "a thing" but omg i am so glad i found it! I cant wait to start. Thank you for this comment. It inspires people more to do this System of Bujo.
Thanks for the recommendation.
Bro... of all the videos I've watched to understand the bullet journal, your video is, by far, the easiest to understand and allowed me to have confidence in giving it ago. Thanks you for the very easy steps! Thank you so much!
Agree
That would make sense since he the narrator is the one that invented the bullet journal :) ☀️
Same! All the interviews with Ryder Carroll didn't give me a more precise view on it. Only the Trailer video of Ryder Carroll's youtube channel but it didn't cover all the things in this video here.
Jerry, I wholeheartedly agree with you!
Agreed. As someone w ADHD, I did not get distracted. That’s a compliment.
This is, by far, the best and easiest to follow and understand explanation of the Bullet Journal! I particularly appreciate the explanation on Migrating. A thousand thank yous for a simple, nimble and powerful summary of BuJo!

I've been using this method for a few years now. When I started, there weren't any really good tutorials on line. This is a fantastic explanation.
Best explanation I've found of the Bullet Journal method. While many people enjoy the artistic side of journalling, it's not core to the process. This covers all you need to know.

Finally a video that gives me a clear explanation and directions on getting started! Thank you!
I love bullet journaling. It is my backup brain... total game changer.
What Russ said! I've been on and off RUclips trying to find a clear explanation, and even the Bullet Journal channel itself isn't as clear as this.
This is top quality content, brilliantly explained, neatly illustrated and probably the best 10 minutes I've spent today. I have seen so much bujo videos but so far you explained it so well and I finally understood. Thanks
This is a great intro to the essence of bullet journalling; not just how to set it up but how to actually *USE* it. Thanks!
Thank you for such a clear explanation of the Bullet Journal process - the visuals were also excellent and the pace spot-on! It summarised everything I need to get me started.

A synopsis of the synopsis! ;-)
I have been using the Bullet Journal on and off for a past few months now and slowly drift away from it each time. Your video truly helped me understand what I was missing, so thank you for taking the time to post.
Thank God, someone who actually explained the mechanics vs. showing off pretty art and doodles, lol. Thanks!!
The bullet journal method concisely and elegantly explained. Thanks.
Indeed a straightforward explanation of The Bullet Journal! I have been using it without knowing its simplicity this far. And it's been a couple of years now that I m using it!! I was a caveman in a cave, and now I am a modernized Apeman! Thanks for a wonderful explanation of your understanding.

Thank you for the fantastic intro to Bullet Journalling.
I will be starting my first one in 2020.
This is gold and deserves a million or more views! Thank you!

What a great explanation of how to migrate. Thank you
Thanks for breaking this down very simply. When I did use the daily planners that are in the stores, there always seemed to be something more I wanted or needed to organize. This method helps me have what I want in a journal.
This video single handedly sold me on trying the bullet journal method.

This is by far the best video on bullet journal.. it makes so much sense n workable. Thank you.
Absolutely great 👍
I just bought a notebook to use it for tasks and your video came just in the right time for me!
Thank you!
Thank you for the video and i really recommend reading the book if you really want to know more about bujo. This video really simplified and summarized the system while focusing on the main points of doing the journal. Thank you!
This is today’s task for me. Thank you.
Wow, the indexing part gave me chills. Of course, like in a scientific book. It never occured to me before. Wow moment.
This visual was super helpful...finally got it. Thank you!!! Going to give this a try!
Excellent video! You must be a natural teacher. Have saved this for future reference
I had derived similar method for my daily work past decade, but was very inefficient for my latest job, which is very dynamic and full of very important and specific data. Excellent presentation. So clear and precise about the steps to migrate information as well as documenting. And thanks for the summary sheet!!!
Most underated channel on RUclips 😊
Never ‘got’ the bullet journal method before but your video was so clear it was perfect 👌
This is clearer than the official walkthrough
Best Quick Elaboration about the Bujo. Thank you for this. Youve reminded me alot of info that i forgot from reading the Bujo Book. Cheers. ✌️
I study this for 3 years - and have not started with ONE single page. useful for students to Study
Wow! Others makes it so complicated with the habit trackers and whatnot. I watched the original vid but I had a hard time understanding. This was very good and I would want to try this.
Very helpful! I'm going to give the bullet journal method a try for a month as suggested. :-)
Best video on bullet journal. Thank you!!!
I'm totally new to this. It's a bit overwhelming but I'm slowly getting the concept and I LOVE it. Looking forward to watching future videos. Thank you!!!
THE BEST VIDEO ON JOURNALING... Thank you
Very insightful and helpful! Thank you for sharing! May you be blessed!
Excellent summary. Thank you as always.
This is much easier to understanding Bullet Journal . Thanks 👍
I think the arrow to the right should be reserved for the monthly tasks list. Now it's confusing.
When migrating to the next day, I would use a ⬇️ arrow down.
This way you can also see what task you keep transferring to the next days
That is one of the beauties of the system; you can adjust your bullets to whatever you find more useful :~)
@@childcrone Glad you like the idea 👍
Great channel, Great contents.
I am a fan. Please continue
Great explanation. Clear and practical. Thank you
Omg this explains so much!! Please do a explanation on the mental inventory please🙏🏽
Thanks for this excellent summary! 👌
This even better than the book itself!
Got to watch this again!
Nice breakdown.. I’m going to read the book
Super helpful summary of this technique. Thank for putting it together!

I am sure you could also design a special symbol for key types of events - for example, an "upside down" (point at the bottom) triangle.
I want to try bullet journaling now. your video made it look so easy
Thanks for putting out these videos! Love your work
Thank You, now I start to understand!
very beautiful explanation.!!!!!!!!!!! thank you so much
Great job on your video. Keep up the great work! Best overview of bujo I’ve seen. This will help me better tweak my hybrid system of Michael Hyatt Full Focus Planner using some bujo principles and Asana for work collaboration and long term task capture.
Best explanation I’ve watched.
Wow...... This was mind-blowing... 👍👍
The next best explanation after Ryder Carroll
Great explanation dude. 👍

You are so greaat...thank you for your videos
Awesome summary! What a time for this video, I just spent my morning writing out my new bullet journal and then saw this in my recommended
You explained it better than the author :))
This was soooo helpful!
