Never was a Warrant but I feel the biggest hurdle can be ones chain of command. You want a good solid working relationship with them. Also I have seen that it helps to be closer to the end of a current contract with the respected branch you may be in. Especially Air Force since we do not have Warrant Officers.
Congrats on the 3 chief! Going warrant was one of the best decisions I ever made. Love it. Great advice. WOCS wasn’t that hard. It was kind of fun actually. I got in trouble for getting out of bed too early. LOL
that is such an amazing outlook I never considered about schools and stuff. for how much it improves your life, it makes the experience that much easier. still never gonna go warrant but shout out to all the 270As i’ve worked with in the past!
May I ask why on behalf of my husband who is hesitant to do it? He's an E-6 10 years in and is trying to switch MOS' and has no idea if he should go warrant officer or not.
My younger brother joined the guard when he was 19 in like 2014, as a track mechanic, rose to Sergeant within his first 4, got to Staff Sergeant and went Warrant after about his 6th year. Now he just gets random calls from his LtCol every so often about what would make a great spreadsheet.
"Take charge when you're in charge" is good advice for any soldier. I've seen too many e5's and e6's in charge when they were clearly not ready for that role. As a 5, I distinctly recall many times where I had to take charge over a 6 that was too flustered to respond to the situation at hand. I felt bad about not conferring with him privately - which is the right answer the vast majority of the time - but his guys didn't have leadership and the situation demanded immediate action.
CW2 are either amazing, or opposite of. CW3s some feel like that’s it, they made it to retirement. I’ve served with a few awesome CW3-CW4s. CW5s are rare, rarer to find them yet, and by regulation not allowed to be part of any army formation, it could even be a ticker tape parade celebrating WW3 victory! Now in 2012 I was a 1LT and got in a van, in Afghanistan with 3 chiefs that had been in since 1978 and early 80s,…do the math.
You're right CW5's are rare, they're even more rare in the Corps than the army. I've been a 0302 in the Marines, that's 11A in the Army and I remember spotting only one Marine CW5 "we call em Marine gunner" in my entire 16 years of service.
Chief great video and the myths busted are great! This CW2 890A approves and agrees. To caveat on the schools after WOCS the real Army shows and the gentleman course mantra really kicks in. Haven’t been disappointed by any course yet from WOBC to WOAC as well.
Oh the WOCS memories! Worst parts were training day DONSAs, and the weekends! Oh I think the clock is slow! I will say the most rewarding time of my Army career was going out and helping habitat for humanity in Dothan. One of the guys in my class framed houses for a living (Reservist) and he simply told the site lead that day, lead, follow, or stay out of my way. We went from foundation with the first floor to having the roof up missing two sheets of plywood. The site lead said we knocked off four months of building in one day. Amazing what a bunch of Warrant Officer Candidates could do when we worked as a team. Our TAC Officer said on the bus she could no longer be a hard ass around us and got all chocked up. I guess we made her proud? Nah, get in the grass candidate!
I'm actually coming up to drop my packet for the January board... I've been watching you for quite some time. And I appreciate all the help you've given me.
I retired from the Coast Guard as. CWO4 (ENG) I was a Chief for 2 years before going Warrant. Being an E-7 beforehand was the best route because I earned a lot of respect from.both enlisted and officers. For us there was a lot of math but not as.much rate (MOS) related questions on the exam. I had taken out a PSAT study guide and an E-5 course to prepare for the warrant exam, which really helped.
My hurdle was lack of slots in the mechanical MOS equivalent that I held as a NCO and I wasn't willing to do another 5 weeks school after PLDC, BNCOC and SLC. I could already do LandNav, ruck , do PT, lead and follow, but I would have had to be tortured and treated like garbage for what and I would have had a ton more experience than most!? My schooling at that point is I held a BA, and done 12 weeks of NCO training. If I could have gone thru what we call knife and fork school for 2 weeks, i.e. OCS for the doctors, I might have been willing, but I had no more bleeps to give..... Might explain why I retired. There should be an option for soldiers who are "experienced" and educated i.e. old and don't want to be treated like garbage again.
My dad is a retired coast guard w4 I asked why he chose to go. The warrant officer route. He said a friend of his at the time pestering the hell out of him to take the warrant officer exam Long story short, my dad got promoted and his friend didn't
Currently trying to get profiles removed so I can drop my packet. WOCs was off putting but honestly after this last deployment I think like you said it will be a breeze
Hey, imagine this though. For flight at least, it's a 10 year commitment, AFTER you finish flight school, which is usually the last thing you do before going to your unit
I didn't find out about Warrant until I was 12 years in and I got to work with some 350H and 350F warrants. Hopefully the tenure doesn't preclude my application :)
Currently AF Reservist and considered doing Blue to Green a few years back in order to eventually go warrant (270A) now it looks like we'll be getting warrant officers again.
I did not serve in the U.S. Army but did check the branch's personnel manual I did serve in (intentionally not identified). According to what I read, and can paraphrase here, any enlisted member from any branch can be released from their enlistment contract if that member is accepted for training leading to an officer's commission - this includes warrant officer - again into any branch. For example, if a U.S. Navy sailor is accepted into the Army's Warrant Officer Flight Training as a candidate, that sailor's enlistment is ended and he or she is released to report to said training. Mix and match as you see fit: USMC => USAF; USCG => USN; USN => USCG; USA => USMC; etc. I don't know how the U.S. Space Force would deal with this scenario, if it has even arisen for any of its members.
Navy Engineering officers are usually Warrants or Mustang LDO's, but most of the ones I encountered were well into their careers like 10,12,15 years... Maybe its different in the Army, or maybe it was so long ago and I was so young they just seemed old...
I'll just say this. Every CO I ever had that wasn't a CWO, or a Mustang; really wasn't worth a damn. That Enlisted experience is what makes a good leader great in my opinion. If you disagree, say it Chesty. Oorah.
Last time I checked, all the other branches have warrant officers of their own. Did that change all of a sudden, or are you just referring to the school itself only being run by Army personnel?
Chair Farce got rid of theirs decades ago. Can't speak for other branches but served 12 years Navy and being a Warrant was my goal. MEDBOARD had other plans :(
I’m at AIT as a 91B and I am seriously interested in becoming a warrant officer. I asked my mod chief is the USMAP program would be a good start and he said he’s never heard of that program, and he said you need 5 years of NCOERs, I was wondering about the validity of that as well, I saw in another video you have that you can put your packet in at 5-6 years so I was wondering how that’s possible if you need 5 years of NCOERs
Outsider who has done a ton of research here: the Army’s webpage for how to be a WO had a few requirements(branches may differ), such as E5 minimum, with 3 years of NCOERs. If one can make NCO within their first year or two(SPC -> CPL or SGT), then it is theoretically possible to achieve WO in 4 years.
Enlisted AF here, what's the living accommodation difference between Army Warrant and NCO AF? I know you guys are in a higher pay grade, but what about housing, etc?
Marine infantry officer here, O-3 company commander and your E1 living accommodations and housing are better than my O-5 battalion commander. So all I can say enjoy your vacation. 😂
Can you go into the military as a Warrant Officer, or do you have to start out as an Enlisted and work your way to it? Also, is there a minimum rank at which Enlisted can apply for Warrant Officer?
For Navy you have to be an E-7 Chief Pretty Officer first, then you can go Chief Warrant Officer. Believe there is an 8 year commitment after commissioning. Was my goal, but made E-6 then got med retired 12 years into my career :(

Waiting for conditional release letter from the Airforce .Trying to figure out how to expedite the process
April 2024 the Air Force decided to re-establish the Warrant Officer career field.
He's got the voice for 1940s and 50s radio
Congrats on the 3 chief! Going warrant was one of the best decisions I ever made. Love it. Great advice. WOCS wasn’t that hard. It was kind of fun actually. I got in trouble for getting out of bed too early. LOL
That’s a demerit! Lol
that is such an amazing outlook I never considered about schools and stuff. for how much it improves your life, it makes the experience that much easier.
still never gonna go warrant but shout out to all the 270As i’ve worked with in the past!
Not going Warrant is probably my only regret about my military service.
May I ask why on behalf of my husband who is hesitant to do it? He's an E-6 10 years in and is trying to switch MOS' and has no idea if he should go warrant officer or not.
The best rank in the entire Military

I had almost everything in order to drop a packet except my GT score needed to be raised as an 89b! I did work with some good 890’s though.
The biggest myth is that you'll stop getting heckled as a WO 😂
If I had reenlisted in the Marines, I would have gone warrant. 3 deployments in 4 years was enough for me though.
Happiness is being a retired CW5! Keep up the good work.

"How'd you get promoted?"
Someone must've told them about that little maneuver at the battle of Taanab....
Do we know when Crafton is putting his packet in yet?
He just made Specialist, let him secure his place as Grand Ayatollah of the E-4 Mafia.

Going in February. Your early videos were a big help in getting prepared.
Currently trying to get profiles removed so I can drop my packet. WOCs was off putting but honestly after this last deployment I think like you said it will be a breeze
Our honor grad in basic was promoted to SGT(prior service) and was sent to WO and flight school.
Hey, imagine this though. For flight at least, it's a 10 year commitment, AFTER you finish flight school, which is usually the last thing you do before going to your unit
I heard you have to have sharper skates than a specialist
I didn't find out about Warrant until I was 12 years in and I got to work with some 350H and 350F warrants. Hopefully the tenure doesn't preclude my application :)
There’s waivers for literally anything bro 👍🏼
17 yrs in and in WOCS currently. My advice, sooner rather than later!
Going to WOCS in July! Thanks for all of help Chief! Any other advice!?
Practice ruck marching with 50lbs in your ruck for 10k at at least a 1736min/mi pace.
I heard that after graduating flight school, all Army helo pilots are give a WO rank. Otherwise it takes years.
It gets better
A closed mouth don't get feed

Going to blow his mind when he finds out the U.S. Marine Corps has Warrent Officers.
The other services have warrants too. Minus the Air Force
Alright chief quit diggin you already struck oil
0:05 The USAF hasn't had Warrant Officers since 1992.
Word on the street is we're about to get WO grades back. Not many details but most likely Space Force types to boost retention.
Is it just me or is onepunchdad slowly turning into cw5 Friendly? I hear it in his voice slowly creepin in.
“Ground pounder” = Dirt Warrant
Last time I checked, all the other branches have warrant officers of their own. Did that change all of a sudden, or are you just referring to the school itself only being run by Army personnel?
AF does not
Chair Farce got rid of theirs decades ago. Can't speak for other branches but served 12 years Navy and being a Warrant was my goal. MEDBOARD had other plans :(
I keep telling my husband to drop his package before hes too old. Is what it is 🤷🤦
And now I feel I need to look up what warrant officer is in the US army, as it seems to be 0% like what it is in the Canadian army.
Nice video
How does Crafton do this character? Is there a Chief filter?
What about the magical ninja skills?
What type of warrant are you? Also that was one of my biggest regrets in my career, that I should have gone warrant instead of staying enlisted.
I was cwo in army cadets😂😂😂

Don’t you have to at least have a bachelors to become a warrant officer?
You can drop your packet at any rank
BUT, if you fail Warrent Officer school your career is over, yes ?
Enlisted AF here, what's the living accommodation difference between Army Warrant and NCO AF? I know you guys are in a higher pay grade, but what about housing, etc?

@@MrUNCLESAM84 unless he's living in a 2 bedroom duplex that was built in the early 80's, I highly doubt that
Cool
Can officers go warrant?
Is it true that to become a CW5 you must defeat a CW5?

But what does Billy T Friendly say?
id rather be a warrent officer in the Marines. Army is so cringe
isnt watts the ghetto? or are you talking about another type of watts? LMFAO
WOCS. Warrant Officer Candidate School.
Actually the Army wants you to save watts but shutting lights of when nobody's in a room..........
@@thomasbeirne8213 ooohhh wocs...i though he said watts...i was in the army but no one was talking about warrant officer school in my battalion
