Oh my goodness! 🤩 That Primo stand, flip into Casper with the free footwork at 1:16 is incredible! Sarah, your improvements in skating are easily my BIGGEST INSPIRATION! I love what you do! I broke my leg playing soccer so I'm bummed that I can't skate or snowboard for several months, but your videos keep inspired and motivated to come back stronger.
ahh thank you so much! That has been one of my favorite lines all year. Sorry you got hurt, but I hope you can make a full recovery and come back to what you love 😃
ripping ! , I am the same way ... I still alternate between vans (vulc) for transition skating and NB (cup) for more technical, half - cabs were a favorite of mine for years.
For me is all about feeling like my feet are protected and cushioned. The Etnies' Michelin cupsoles are great. I have Joslin and Marana and love them both.
don't know if I wrote that in the past: There are very good, lightweight and thin, but very protective ancle protections out there. I own and use the Shadow Super Slim Ankle Guards from The Shadow Conspiracy, which I rly can recommend. I combine them with both skateshoes I use, the Etnies Andy Anderson (mids) and Etnies Marana (lows). I prefer vulcs over cubs, and mids over lows. The protections fit easily into the shoes and have me saved from many anoying small injuries. They also don't overprotect (they don't stabilise the foot, they only protect the ankles). For protection doing caspers: Shoes with lace cover ;-)
Aye you'll love the half cabs with the thicker sole ! Think a lot of these reasons are why I ended up on the accels or marana, marana I believe is a full vulc and the accel is a hybrid vulc feel cupsole. The Joslyn is interestingly how the marana used to be before the cupsole michelin redesign, I miss that shoe so much because they felt thicker on the sole. Been meaning to get a pair myself but the FP insoles and or shoes look very interesting in this respect, definitely worth taking a look at. Sick skateboarding as ever ! Have fun out there !
Fallen had a sale not too long ago. I got 2 pairs, one of each type. I like the cup sole more. They’re super comfy and supportive. For me, the extra cushion and ruggedness are more important than increased board feel.
I love the half cabs! Perfect blend of cushion and feel. They do tear up on the top after a longgg time of casper and truck work but man Ima stick with them for my next shoe for sure. Ive always wanted that ankle protection/support without having the restricted movement/look of a hightop and they fit the bill. Great video as always
ah stoked to hear you've liked them for freestyle. I'll be pairing them with the dkl rubber grip tape when I get around to it! So, hopefully they'll last a long time with that 😃
Just got my first ever pair of vulc Braden's and it's taking a long time to adjust. Because of the wrapping the shoe appears wider on the board so it looks different. Also the flick is flicking off that wider rubber compared to getting more of the suede on a cup. They actually feel more comfortable because of the new insole though. I'm gonna stick through it and wear down that toe to get me some suede on the flick
I'm a cupsole guy mostly because of the sense of safety I get. I like the boardfeel of vulcs, but where I live, the ground isn't smooth either and the vibrations from the ground messes me up.
i hope you like the half cabs! i like how they feel, but since my experience with them wasn't the best, i'll never go back haha. i've gotten the most foot injuries i've ever had because of those shoes. since they're so tight on your feet, they don't help with having give or flexibility if i were to tweak my ankle somehow-resulting in making a should-be-minor injury into something more. BUT i will say at the same time that these shoes are also really great for skating if you're injured because they're so tight on your feet that you won't feel the injury too much lol. pros and cons for me
ah, hopefully they fit well! it seems that most skate shoes are just a bit of a gamble as to whether they'll be too tight or not 🥲 I've had some decent fitting vans, but then couldn't even keep their slip ons on my feet without them hurting so badly I had to take them off after 30 minutes. Hoping for the best though 🫣
those half cabs look like the ones i just blew through lol! been skating the model ever since getting my first pair of skates and they're pretty reliable, i never personally noticed front foot bruises from no handed truck stands though your mileage may vary 👍
Personally I think you'll really like the half cabs. They're a comfy, flexible shoe with protection in all the spots you need it. The only downside to half cabs in my opinion is they need a few sessions to really break in, and those first few sessions will be painful. They are very stiff when you first get them, but I think it's a testament to how durable the shoe is.
There are two irreplaceable shoes. Vans Half Cab. Adidas Pro Model or Superstar depending if you like high or low. The toe protection of a shell toe with just the right amount of protection everywhere else is why it is so time honored. Half Cabs are just perfect in every regard although not my favorite off board shoe.
been liking the converse lately its just a plain canvas one with a zip cause i hate lacing them. its good for my limited bag of tricks and general cruising. i actually got a pair of the more sturdy converse meant for skating and yeah they have more protection but i actually like them a lot less similar to what you say here. also theyre a pain to lace up... i also liked vans but yeah it has like 0 protection for someone doing freestyle yeah itd be horrible ... half cab i thought looks cool for ages but its something i wont buy as suede is like goat leather or something yeah i am a vegan skater so normally its canvas or synthetic only
The top of the foot needing protection is no joke lol. I destroyed my big toe landing primo with my big toe under it. Off only a 14" ledge a kickflip swelled my toe like I struck it with a big carpenters hammer.
@@SarahParkMatott it's fine just cut my day short 😅 sadly I have found the 2 flaws in vans skate halfcab. The toe cap needs slight padding and the soles are almost too low on height to shoe goo back to the foxing tape if it separates.
I only skate cupsoles 😅 vulc hurt not just my feet but all my skeleton, I specifically skate the osiris d3 2001, because of the air chambers and consistency ( last for months! My current ones are 8 months old) they are also well ventilated so I rarely get sweaty feet, I've also tried some etnies faze Eva foam midsole, they are also durable but a little less softer that the D3. I tried vulc again recently and no...I just don't like them
Vulcanised shoes fall apart much easier and cupsoles, especially for any situation where the griptape gets finds its way anywhere other than the bottom of your shoes. Cupsoles seemingly last forever. Vulcanised do have a better boardfeel, though. When I finally switched to a pair of Cuspole Etnies Marana Michelins for learning ollies, it was like my feet were "blind" at first. I had to almost relearn riding in a way, or rather, I had to adapt my muscle memory. If I'm cruising around or riding anything that doesn't involve tricks or sandpaper griptape, I'd go for a pair of vulcs any day of the week.
@@suchaverage6430 The pair I have now are just starting to get worn on the ball after 8 months. They are the gum soles so I don't know if that makes a difference.
i prefer cupsoles. i like well-worn skate shoes, i skate and repair them until they fall off my feet. they get getter as they wear in. i was gonna suggest halfcabs for a substantial vulc soled shoe.

Waking up to new sarah vid is A+ 🙏🏽

I don't think I've heard of those! I'll have to look them up though. Thanks 😃
half cabs are great for protection but still vulcanized feel, my favorite skate shoe

Very inspiring, nice voice, useful content - Thank you!
have you seen the Andy Anderson vulc shoes? They're a mid top and have the big lace cover strap so it adds a bit more protection!
I've seen them, but I haven't tried them yet!

Sticking with my Lakai for now!
ha I just asked what shoes you where rocking in your latest video - they must be these!
Can't go wrong with half cabs. I got the same ones. 👍 Hope you like em.

Love vulcs, just can’t stand how quick I run a hole into the bottom of them.

If you like cushion and a vulcanized shoe try DC's.
I heard some of their shoe’s soles don’t last that long

half cab shoe review incoming ?
haha maybe 😂 it takes me months to talk about a shoe lol
This channel is an absolute treasure trove of knowledge. This is probably the best skate channel on the tube.
ah thank you! Stoked to hear you've found a lot of value from the videos 😃
