How calm and collected you stayed is amazing.
lol Thanks😁
that's the Japanese culture kicking in, I hope your recovery is speedy and complete Yuka, we'll see you shredding in no time💪🏻
This is also a critical skill if ever injured (especially head injuries ). Freaking out cause increased blood pressure which will complicate and even make fatal some head injuries.. Nice job Yuka!
Props and prayers to you from Australia! May you heal well.
@@giulianotesta1847 Nope, that's called adrenaline and shock.
So gnarly, Yuka! You guys handled it super well. Hope you're doing better and making a full recovery!
yo no way love your content dude
Wow, this was actually upsetting to watch. Glad you’re recovering. That rescue guy was outstanding, so calm and professional. I can only imagine how your husband felt during that. Take care and ride safe :)
Thanks for the compliment : I asked to not be featured and Yuka featured me anyways. A pretty poor move on her part, I’ve contacted her since and she refuses to take down. She’s a bad person.
@@ericclements7688 sorry to hear that Eric. That being said, still you did a great job if that is any consultation.
I appreciate your kindness; it’s too bad yuka and Eric love to take advantage of the people they call to help them.
@ericclements7688 yeah im skeptical about this. Anyone can claim to be someone they arent online
@@dayinnymtb think they are a troll. Profile pic doesn't match the person on the video, no videos themselves account created day this video was posted. So i call bull shit
Hey from a guy whose spent 3 months in the hospital and 3 months in a body cast, all from Motocross stuff. You were remarkable. You have such a cool attitude. Your narration is wonderful. I know you will make a full recovery. I'm 65 and my son and I use to go to Whistler a couple times a year. I just slow it down and enjoy the fact that I can still ride and enjoy every day! You are the bomb!
that is brutal mate so glad that for me medicine had come far enough that they could do surgery instead of having a cast
I'm sorry that you had to go through something like this. I have always been impressed with how confident you are, how you hit features and how you've been able to hop up after previous scary crashes. I hope you heal completely and are able to enjoy riding again soon.
I feel for you, Yuka. I crashed on 3/26/2022 at SkyPark and broke my neck in two places as well as some ribs and a lot of soft tissue damage. I was also very lucky and didn’t end up paralyzed. But now I have four fused vertebrae holding everything together. Life changing to say the least. I love your channel and am so happy that you’re going to make a full recovery!
OMG. That must been a bad crash. I hope you heal up soon too🥲
@@VanGirlYuka Yuka, how did that happen you where doing fine
hope you are ok
Gnarly crash! I'm glad your spine is relatively in a good shape! Get well, Yuka!
Jesus the instant panick and fear in Eric's voice was so heartbreaking
What a huge off and it could've so much worse, and you handled it better than 99% of the rest of us. Healing vibes girl!!
I love how composed you are throughout your accident and the telling of your story.
Oh Yuka, I'm so sorry this happened. You are such a warrior, I know you will heal up. Praying that your mental state will recover fully as well. I'm cheering you on!!!
now my brain sees completely different views. Everything looks so big and scary
@@VanGirlYuka takes time, your confidence needs time to heal too
Having been through this twice now with Cory, I can definitely feel the intensity of this. Get well soon, Yuka. It'll feel like it takes forever to heal and you'll have moments of some negative intrusive thoughts, but just know that it'll pass. Cory's stuck to the ground for now as well. She hasn't fully recovered from her torn shoulder tendons from last year and she just recently detached her collarbone on that same shoulder. Needless to say, no big jumps or drops for a while. At least she's back to pedaling around on flatter trails. With some aggressive PT, we're hoping she can enjoy a trip to Windrock by February. Best wishes to you two.
Holy shit Yuka, that was absolutely insane. Seeing you overshoot that stepup from Eric his angle looked so scary, can't imagine how he must have felt. Good reminder to never let emotions take over the bike, especially with features where the consequences can be so big! No clue how you managed to stay so calm in such a scary situation but kudos. I think i somehow freaked out more on this side of the screen while hearing the crashing noises then you did after it just happend.
Glad you are still (mostly) in one piece and i wish you a full and quick recovery, i'm sure you'll be boaring down mountains again soon enough! Last but not least, so much respect for the rescue team, truly awesome work they do!
Don't underestimate any features! and I appreciate the rescue team, doctors, and nurses for what they did. Because of them, I could overcome the accident. Thank you.
Wow, that's some scary stuff!! I'm glad you were okay and hope you'll "gear it down" a bit in the future. Sounds like it was the end of a long day of riding when this happened... another mistake might have been you were just too fatigued from riding all day. HEAL UP Yuka!!
glad you are ok!
hate to say it, but it was coming from far away. don't want to be a dick, but you need to get good coaching lessons, as you lack some basic proper technique to start with. I mean... you can't do a proper bunnyhop + pumping - this basically closes lots of the gates for technical jumps
in some spots you weren't able to clear the jumps only because of that. Also, proper technique makes you more comfortable and safe.
I need more/less speed can't be an answer for everything. You can clearly see some features here are hard for you even not mentioning they are not that big at all.
best wishes to you both and have a speedy recovery :)
P.S.: protection can't also be an answer for everything, you will just get to bigger jumps with poor technique and protection might not save you there.
This is probably the best analysis of an accident (mountain biking, motorcycling, or flying) I have ever seen. All accidents have a "magic chain" or "Swiss cheese alignment" of elements leading to an unfavorable outcome, but the overwhelming majority of the ones I've studied have a big mental component: We get in a hurry. We let someone talk us into something. We yield to pressure, etc. etc. We're all susceptible. Hope you've healed up well and are back on the trails. Thanks for helping makes us all a little safer.
This likely won't be a popular comment and I hate to say it, but I believe this was coming for some time.
Luck has been at play from what I've seen in your previous videos as of late, I'm glad you're okay.
It really is key to stay within your competency level and take the time to assess features, your mental state, and the mechanical state of your bike.
Wishing you a speedy recovery.
Also proper protection at least when using the chair lift in bikeparks. Riding black jump lines in a bikepark without back protection and protective pants? Modern protective gear has become so good, there really is no excuse.
Sorry to say bit 'ditto'
It’s lucky this happened on a step up, I think.
we both bought back protections after the crash👍 next is pants...
@@VanGirlYuka You can tell where people have hurt themselves by the padding they wear...
It's really great that you chose to share this experience and that you also left in the parts with the rescue team. Their response was great and showed good first responder skills.
Hope you feel better soon and get back to riding asap, Gimpee! Also much appreciation for showing us this video so we can learn! That in itself takes a lot of courage to do. It just shows that anything can happen at any time.
We need to be careful and cheerful when we ride a bike👍✨
That was actually pretty scary to watch, but I‘m so glad nothing worse had happened to you! Thank you so much for sharing this with us and reminding each one of us (and yourself) what kind of mistakes may be avoided. Stay safe everyone and have fun, I hope you‘re recovering well, Yuka!
I have to admit, I don't think I would have taken a crash like that so well. Every video of yours and Eric's amazes me with your commitment determination and pure ballsyness! Heal up quick and can't wait to see you back on the bike soon. You're still an inspiration to a lot of people Yuka. 🤟
OMG Yuka, my heart sank when I first saw this. I'm SOOOO glad that you're okay...or will be okay once you've healed. I've followed your channel for a long time and seen you make quite a few crashes, but this one was different. You've always been able to bounce right up. Your speed was crazy fast on this one though. Dangerously fast. I am so very grateful that it was not worse than it turned out to be. So take care of you, rest and recover. The rest will take care of itself.
Super impressed at how calm and nonchalant you were afterwards.
I knew crying wouldn't help anybody...😞
@@VanGirlYuka Crying never helps. Besides, there's no crying in mountain biking. 😂
An extra Hole in your Butt, sory butt i have to laught. good recovery for you!
That was too scary. I hope you have a strong and speedy recovery. Glad this crash wasn't any worse.
I'm already getting better! Hopefully I can send some of your stuff next time we visit😁
@@VanGirlYuka I'll be looking forward to it
Big respect for Eric as well. He knew what to do right away. I’ve seen too many severe injuries where people helping person who crashed aren’t taking action quick enough and weren’t doing something quite right. He knew right away to call for help, and the correct actions to prevent you from getting more hurt while help was on the way.
I’m so sorry this happened to you. It’s so scary but I’m glad it wasn’t worse. You were so lucky to have a great team to help you out after the crash. Heal up quick!
I'm so glad you'll make a full recovery. You're an incredible person. I love your attitude to everything.
Damn, Yuka looks so young for 36, get well soon!
the glasses invention stayed on guess it worked good job inventing and also good that you made a full proper recovery
I am wishing you a speedy recovery. You were so calm and cool during the whole process. We all could learn from that.
Oh my, Yuka. I'm so glad you're alright... I love seeing you in your husband's videos, and when I saw his community post, I was terrified, but thankful you're alive and mostly well. I really hope your healing goes smoothly and swiftly. Don't beat yourself up too much, you made mistakes, but that's okay we all do 💛💛 you'll be back riding in no time 🙂
We sometimes forget how dangerous MTB can be. Hoping for a quick recovery and glad you're relatively okay!
Your commentary is incredibly insightful and helpful. Thank you for sharing this story!
Thanks for making content of the great and not so great moments of mountain biking. Great learning moments.
Hope you’re healing up well Yuka
I have done that on a massive can am, but did not flip
Thank you for your vulnerability. I hope you have a speedy recovery. Can't wait to see you on the trails again.
Regarding glasses, as some one who has horrible eye sight and is completely blind without glasses. This was a huge issue for me, but with the proliferation of goggle inserts such as these ones made by sportrx, this issue has been completely eliminated 6-7 years ago. I know some people might prefer to not wear goggles, but it seems for us the four eye crowd, a pair of goggles with adapters is the best solution for full face helmet use.
I use Oakley and Oakley’s own polycarbonate prescriptions lenses for everyday riding with my half face helmets.
These solutions also eliminates the small but real danger of regular glasses breaking on crashes and causing secondary damage to our eyes.
I hope this is helpful.
OMG Yuka! How scary. I got a little teary eyed watching as you just laid there. Sending prayers/positive vibes for a speedy and complete recovery.
I like to share happy moments but bad things could happen...Thank you for your wishes
So unlucky to have that bounce. In these type of crashes you just need to be lucky and have protection. It could have been a lot worse though
That was pretty terrifying... I can only imagine what went through both you and Eric's heads when it happened. Great lessons learned for all of us. Thanks for sharing and heal up soon!
What safety protection do you wear like back neck and chest armour wise
New subscriber but this gave me a flashback to two weeks ago where I went over my bars. I'm far too old to be flying headfirst into a patch of stingers at 20mph but I got away with it... again (I crashed heavily in the snow and ice three winters ago and escaped with just a piece of my tongue missing).
You're a brave person and so calm at the accident site. But most of all, you're amazing for getting back on the bike.
This is why I get trail debris as far as possible from the trail. A spikey log can easily take an eye or two, and as in this case allmost paralyze 😢
Thank you for reminding me to be safe when I ride and to take care not to ride above my level or underestimate what I’m riding on. I’m very grateful that you weren’t hurt worse - that was a heck of a crash! I wish you a speedy and full, permanent recovery, including your mind so that you can get back out there and enjoying your bike again just like before but even more skillful. You’re a tough cookie!
Breaking tailbone is bad, especially for a woman.
I broke my wrist and shoulder 3 months ago and was screaming of pain when I crashed. Insane how you kept your calm. tougher than me for sure.
Take good care Yuka. Speedy recovery.
I don't usually watch injury videos, by you did an excellent job explaining the risks and opportunities to minimize them, making it a learning video. Thanks and feel better. I've been there as a former road racer.
Wow youre a beast! Ive broken my arm in a roll over truck accident, snapped my wrist as a kid, tore my knees acl and cut my elbow to the bone in a dirt bike crash but fracturing my tail bone on a rock was the most painful thing ive ever experienced! You snapped the thing!? I couldnt even sit down after i think my friends got annoyed on the ride home from all of my complaining you handled it so well 😂 glad youre ok!
The daily mindset is so important to riding safely! Thanks Yuka so much for sharing this video with all of us who love tuning in to watch you and Eric shred.... Wishing you a speedy recovery
broken most my bones playing extreme sports, im mtb now, love this stuff, but to all you youngins out there wear your damn pads, and your helmet no matter what period even if someone is making fun of you!! IVe got brain damage, migraines, seizures, tremors, and all around pain cause I was a bad ass for the first 15 years out of the 25 ive played. Please I beg, anyone watching please wear protection in all sports, and activities.
Glade you are ok, you got some distance on that girl!!
ive exploded my left wrist so I seriously understand, split my radius vertically , stuff was WILD rode on that broken wrist for a awhile before surgery.
broke my tail bone in 7-8th grade, out of everything ive broken, including knees, wrist, ankles, ribs, all fingers, and toes.
The tail bone was excruciating, your butt muscles control that spot by the tail bone. 6 months no laughing, sitting, nothing. Then it healed, and broke it within a week from a profile race seat gang banging my booty cheeks.
I now wear butt protectors for this 1 reason LOL.
was on a set of stairs on a bar stool it flipped back, and my pink pucker went right over that stool leg. Dear god that was so long ago, and I shudder from pain thinking about it!!
stay safe everyone!! #EKS #Leatt #FistGloves
Wow Yuka, that was a tough watch.I've never met you guys or ever will, but that was like seeing a good friend have a huge one! I hope you are healing well and haven't lost too much of your confidence and can do attitude.all the best to you both.
Wow I love this you’re so inspiring and calm you guys are amazing you handled this awesomely! ❤
Glad you were not seriously injured. Your comments about being in the right state of mind can be applied to so many things. Prayers for quick healing!
Glad you are Okay Yuka. that's the risk we all take when we get on the bike. LIVE TO RIDE ANOTHER DAY 👊🙏
I'm amazed at how calm both of you were. I would have been freaking out- either in your shoes or in Eric's. So happy for you that this wasn't more serious. Hope you're able to heal up quickly.
I love her answers to the questions after the wreck……. Did you break something? Possible……. 😂😂😂😂😂. Glad all is well.
I wish you a prompt recovery Yuka, don't give up shredding!
Nearly teared my balls off when riding an unfamiliar big jump. Landed on the wheel while it slowly shredded my -- not the finest feeling and I was alone so I had to stay there for about 3 hrs until I got up and rode my bike down the hill and some how fell off again and rolled a quarter of the way down.
Now I have a suspension bike. I wonder why I didn’t think…
Oh my goodness! So glad the injuries were not as bad as they could have been. I really like the way you approached and produced the whole video. Very well done and I wish you a speedy and full recovery.
Glad your doing better!
I almost had a similar crash but i was at home and going to our garage
So uh i was on my bike hauling materials with a cylinder block then i went downhill to my garage and i braked but i couldn’t stop ive tried everything to stop but then at 5 mph I finally stopped
Get better Soon YUKA!! Solid message at the end.. part of progression is pushing your limit but the other part is knowing where that limit is and managing expectations.. nothing annoys me more than feeling like I need to be faster or better on a ride.. We riders need to be more content with where we are at and how far we have come!
8:49 was hilarious. And super impressive how calm you were. Your husband too. I hope you are good!

Great video with the immersive music and great storytelling. I'm sorry you were injured, heal up fast! That was some sweet air time! Actually double air time!
My worst crash Ever is falling into a empty River On my back With its solid rocks that ended Me up in the hospital With A broken Back and a broken nose
im watching this after i broke my arm (radius and ulna) due to OTB and i was wondering how recover again and gaining back your confidence, and last to make your family feel safe when youre riding again. cheers
Bloody hell!
You ride jumps I would not take. I prefer to stay grounded, but technical as hell.
Respect for uploading this.
Some prescription goggles! My buddy dumped some cash on them for snowboarding and they are brilliant for him. Hope you have healed up fully!
lol do you want me to call .... ... the people THE PEOPLE??? ... (huh wait what people xD)
i broke my elbow on my bike around the same time as this video, i have to have 6 weeks off the bike 😢
I'm slowly getting back on my bike. I hope you are doing the same😘
Oh my God I, feel so bad to see you in this condition. The good news is, I just got off the phone with the Japanese government and we're going to make a national holiday. It's called "Gimpy Day" and it will be, of course, on Monday... EVERY MONDAY !! Chu.. Chu.. Yuka san.. your fans love you. Please recover soon. We'll be waiting for the next video. Gambatte kudasai.
Everything functions properly ruclips.net/user/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L Nothing was damaged in the box aside from a decal on the fork. The decal was missing a piece of a corner but I ended up peeling them off anyways. Assembly is easy BUT make sure you tune up the derailleurs. Both the front and rear need adjusting. I'd advise going to a bike shop but I opted out and put in 10+ hours with the help of RUclips. Ended up fraying a shifter cable but all in all I learned from the experience. The Brakes work well but the front caliper needs adjusting or at least mine did because the rotor was rubbing against the pads. Make sure you swap out the seat, grips, and pedals. For the short run you'll be fine though. I've read that this bike isn't built yet for hard trails but I just need it for the city. PA has some of the worst roads and being in a mountain this was a great choice. Worth the investment!
So glad you are OK, Yuka. In your defense I think that jump is very poorly constructed. Trail speed should be the speed you should need, clearly the builders made an error with that thing.
I had an mountainbiking injury 8 weeks ago and broke my arm, had to walk with a cast for 4 weeks and when the cast was planned to be removed the doctors said that my arm was still bend, so i had to go in surgery and the doctors had to break it again to set it right, and put pins in my arm. Yesterday my second cast came off and they pulled the pins out (that hurt) i still cant mountainbike for 2 weeks but i hope as fast as possible. Succes Yuka.
Thx for making the explanation thurrow enough to be educational
Recently had a bike crash at the start of the season, I broke my L1 and 2 ribs hitting a tree while droping a feature i almost past out . They had to get me out it took firefighters and an ambulance. Its been 4 weeks and god i can't wait to get back on my bike. I will be way more carefull from now on. i will also get more protective gear, i am so lucky since all i was wearing is a regular mtb helmet. safe to say i will get a full face and body armor and be way more carefull in the future.
I bet that coccyx is still sore. I fractured mine whitewater kayaking (not nearly as bad as yours), and it still hurt me two years later!
Great vid explaining the various ways you "messed up". Heal fast and well!
You never know... til it happens. And yes all the emotions pre send , had a inaccurate results of your capabilities. Glad your good to go compared to what could have happened.
You seem to be riding above your skill level for longer time, tone it down, you can enjoy mtb even with a lowe extreme element, build up dont buy up. Be greatefull for this lesson.
Wow this was rough, you really need to look at some Youzee inserts, really makes things better ( and safer)
High travel suspenssion was what popped you out, why not ride something more predictable with lower travel?
Damn, tailbone break is the worst. Can’t even put a cast on those wounds. At least there wasn’t an SCI
You are so sweet, even you broke something. Hope this happens never again, best wishes for your soul!
“Now I got an extra hole in my butt” that things sent me😂 8:42
Love how she makes it as positive as posible
So sorry for the crash
Been watching your videos here and there and as a fellow rider sending all the quick healing energy your way. That could have been so much worse. The fact that you can recognize the mistakes you made is already a big step in regaining your confidence. It will take some time but eventually it all comes back. On the lighter side ... holy hell did you ever go full send! I don't think I have ever seen anyone ever overcook a step up to that extent! In the most positive way possible I am impressed !!
Not to mention you must be tough as hell to decide your gonna even try standing up with a broken coccyx !
I love you attitude!
I broke my wrist 4 weeks ago and it is coming of in a week ! But it happened because of mountain biking
“Now my butt has an extra hole” that just shows that she still has a sense of humor and she’s not gonna let this injury stop her.
God damn Yuka. That was scary for me to watch I can't image how scared you felt at the time.
Sometimes you just have those days when you want to throw your bike in the woods and puch a hole through a tree ❤
Sorry Yuka, but thank you for sharing good info/advice.
Good advice all the way through. Heal well and keep riding.
Thanks for sharing this, it is really of a big value to see such detailed video about the crash day.
im very glad that you were okay❤ R.I.P bike
This injury is like nothing, thanks to the god you don't have ac joint separation
Sheesh Yuka, so glad you're okay and you were wearing the neck brace. Give yourself plenty of time to recover.
Looked painful but gotta respect that massive send!
