This is what's wrong with my 1972 Ford 3000. Replaced fuel filter and I think it finished off the fuel pump. Had to replace the starter. Now its turning but wouldn't crank. Then checked fuel pump and realized fuel wasn't getting to injectors. Going to try to clean and fix it so I dont have to buy a 700-1200 dollar fuel pump.

How did you buff the pumping plungers that were stuck after you drove them out? And how did you hold them while buffing? I have a similar issue as you found. Thanks for the very good instructions you provide in your videos.

    Hey Dan great video
Need help with 3910 ford tractor. I quit running it due to fuel consumption and the smell of sunburnt fuel kills.
I changed injector. I suspect the pump not working right

Hi Dan, your video is a great help in gaining an understanding of the pump details. Having trouble getting my pump out of a 3400 Ford. Do I need to pull the starter out or can I rotate the engine to position the slot in the drive gear to face the right direction so the pump will tilt outward and clear the starter.

You do not have to pull the starter. there is a plate on the front that you have to take off. once you get the blade off you will see the boat going through the gear that you have to take loose be sure not to drop any of these . Place a rag between the gear and housing mark your gears just in case they move look for your timing mark on the outside of the engine where the pump bolts up. If you do not see a mark make one so you can place the pump back in its original location

@@dapperdanp2485 Thanks much. I had seen pictures of the pump with a rectangular block that appeared to be connected to the pump by a spline. Perhaps I mi-interpreted that picture. The problem I have is that over some months the injector tubes seem to be draining back down to the pump, and more and more cranking the engine was needed to get it to start.
Now I cant even get the fuel up to the injectors when the injector tubing nuts are loose. If it is the shut-off valve, that does not explain the fuel draining back to the pump. Maybe the plungers in the pump head are stuck and cannot be separated by the priming pressure, or just worn beyond operating clearances. The tractor is outfitted with a back hoe and loader. The loader mounting makes working on the engine a real bear. Any comment would be appreciated, thanks again.
