he was my Division CSM. i met him on deployment 2010-2011. he came down to the gunline and chatted with us 13Bs, got a coin from him also. a real cool guy. much respect
I did personal security detachment for CSM Schroeder during the '05-'06 Iraq deployment. He loved going out in sector of course, and I can personally attest that this man walks the walk. He is a great leader, a great man, and lives the Army values to the core. I'm proud to have worked with him, he set the bar in my mind for what a professional is. Nobody else I've met even comes close.
Have to add this. When I was first promoted to Sergeant from Corporal, he showed up in Mahmadiyah as I an my men were digging a trench for a comm line. He walked up straight to me and said let me see your hands. I, extremely nervously, dropped my pick and turned up my palms. He wanted to make sure I was working with my men and leading from the front. The best CSM/Soldier I have ever in countered.
..uhhh you get CIBs for being anywhere within 300m of a mortar; not that hard to get ..having a star just means he did it in 2 different operations/wars/etc.
CSM was my drill instructor in 94. He was an amazing instructor and I've never respected anyone more than him while in the army.

I knew him when he was a PFC, he's always been a top-notch soldier!

That's my Sergeant Major. For some reason, he looked out for me, a 25U. You will always have my respect. 3-502; 1-75 Cav.
