When I was sixteen, I worked at a music-store (De Nieuwe Muziekhandel - Amsterdam), that also was the only ticketshop for big concerts in Amsterdam at that time. We sold the tickets for her concert in the 'Het Concertgebouw - Amsterdam' as well. At the store, Nina Simone had her own complete wall of records for years, that must have been great for her when she came to visit the store, that was famous these days. For us it was amazing. In that period she got famous with more commercial and great work as well. I myself was more interested in the early work, like At Newport and Town Hall. I still have all the records from that time.
Listening to the eternal Nina Simone and having a good glass of wine, relaxing in your favorite chair with your always faithful dog next to you. Life can't get any better then that. Being over the moon doesn't break the bank it is just how you pull things together:)
i am so fortunate i grew up with this amazing singer. We loved!! her in Europe. She is so real , so raw. so grand! Oh my god how we enjoyed listening to her. they don't 'make' singers like her anymore, too, too bad !!
What an Artist! they don;t "make" them anymore like her I am not an American, I am from Europe, but she is one of the greatest artists in my book, not only for her singing voice, (which grasp me all the time) but certainly for her texts! The 'other woman' is so real even these days.
Good stuff. She was ahead of her time. Her arrangements influenced many who came later. Shame about the old production and recording quality: it didn't do her justice.

THE NANCY WILSON version of WILD IS THE WIND is much more elegant. This one sounds like a hymn, the Nancy one like a dream . . .
Shut up
