  • This video shows how to correctly remove the rubber strip (and clips) on the top of your 1990 to 2005 Mazda MX-5 Miata and Eunos Roadster doors.
    This part is known as weatherstripping, belt line moulding or sometimes window seal.
    If not removed carefully, the metal strip inside will bend, warp or become rippled. Once this happens, the weatherstrip will not sit flat.
    Mazda part numbers for replacements:
    Right side # NA01-58-810F.
    Left side # NA01-59-810F.

    I acquired a miata that had sat for some time, and the rubber had dried and flaked away, and there was all this horrible RUST! Imagine my relief when I found this video and learned that the rust was inside this replaceable weatherstrip, and not on the top of the door itself! Thank you for the video!

    Thank you for using a proper, plastic tool for this. I do not understand why people damage things with screwdrivers when plastic trim removal tools are so inexpensive and easy to find. When I removed my molding, I was able to press the release with my plastic tool and all the clips came right off . . . after a bit of finagling, of course.
    Keep up the good work.

    It's a bit late but in case anyone else sees this, the proper way to do this is to go from the inside and pop the rail off the clips (you can use a small screwdriver for this) then take the clips out after.
    The clips are designed to stay in the door and have the trip pressed into them. (The yellow one is different from the white ones so that's why it's yellow.)
    This way also keeps you from breaking the clips

    • @jdgraceclips2695
      @jdgraceclips2695 3 месяца назад

      For those who come later: This comment is wrong, the video is correct. The clips MUST go onto the molding first. Then lower molding down into door holes. Then press ...press hard until you hear/feel the tabs engage.
      If you put the clips in the door first, they will sit too low and you will NOT get the tabs to spring out later.
      You may not get all the tabs to spring out (due to low quality molding), but if you get a majority, you will be good. After market belt line moldings are not super great fitting and are not curved EXACTLY to follow door top. But they are OK.

    • @MiataMan
      @MiataMan  2 года назад +1

      Did it ever work?
      If not, it’s likely that someone has disconnected it where the cable meets the latch.
      You may need to remove the inside panel and take a look.
      If the cable is not attached, you will need to remove the latch and re connect the cable.
      Be sure to mark the the location and height of the latch before removing it.

    Hi! When would you know if you had to replace these? My 92 has a little window rattle and also seems to get a lot of water passing by the glass. Would a new set of beltline moldings correct this? Thanks!

    • @MiataMan
      @MiataMan  2 года назад +1

      New weather strips will definitely help reduce the amount of water ingress. The rattling is likely a different issue. Could be a loose roller at the rear of the window.
      It’s the one that slides up and down the window track at the back of the door.

    • @stevenguzy570

      @@MiataMan Thanks for getting back to me. Since I wrote to you the rattle turn out to actually be the rail cushion at the top of the door card. Just sounded like the window. If that helps anyone else for another source for a rattle. Thanks again!

    I replaced mine today (on a '96NA)
    From 7 to 5 clips but now it is no longer a tight fit. Is an NA door more curved?

    • @MiataMan
      @MiataMan  2 года назад

      The NA and NB use the same part.
      The new ones only come with 5 clips for some reason. I usually try to save some of the old ones and add them as needed. It should sit just fine with 5!clips though. Check to see if everything is lined up correctly.

      @@MiataMan today i replaced the other doortrim, with 7 clips and it sits perfectly. I used the clips from the off coming trim. The ugly gape is exactly where the factory of the new doortrim lacked to mount two extra clips. But thanks to your film i know exactly how to remove and replace doortrim on a miata.! Why not leave the clips in the door?

    • @MiataMan
      @MiataMan  4 года назад +1

      That’s a good question. The reason that they need to come out of the door, is to make it easier to get the weather strip to clip on correctly. It’s much better if the clips are in the correct position on the weather strip.
