Ishtiaq Ahmed is a Swedish political scientist and author of Pakistani descent. He holds a PhD in Political Science from Stockholm University. He is Professor Emeritus of Political Science at Stockholm University.
Early life
Ahmed was born in Lahore, Pakistan, in 1947. He belongs to the Punjabi Arain tribe.

People on the Move: Punjabi Colonial and Post-Colonial Migration (2004, chapter six, "Forced migration and ethnic cleansing in Lahore in 1947 : some first person accounts").
The Politics of Religion in South and Southeast Asia (2011, editor)
The Punjab Bloodied, Partitioned and Cleansed (2012) It won a prize for best non-fiction book of 2012 and the Coca Cola Prize at the Karachi Literature Festival in 2013.

With Respect I beg to differ about host remarks about Punjabi language being pushed back, I see and feel Punjabi is being even promoted in India Punjabi culture is widely expected all the north area even now in other parts of India
@MrKathayat Sahib, aap apni jaghaan theek hain. Aapne, apni taraf se ttheek point out kiya hai. But what is being accepted all over India and abroad, is not real Punjabi language. Rather they are cheap Punjabi Songs and Bollywood songs, which propogate violence, guns, alchohol, fukra-panti. Most of the contemporary Punjabi songs or Bollywood songs do not represent rich Punjabiyat and Punjabi language of Soofis and Fakeers. A shallow and lop-sided picture of Punjabiyat is being shown to the world.
Punjabi and Sikh children are unable to learn written Punjabi language, as only limited schools outside Indian Punjab, have the facility to teach Punjabi language.
On positive note, there are some Punjabi individuals, organisations, youtubers, who are making positive efforts, towards Punjabiyat and Punjabi language. They exist on both sides of the border, more so on Indian side.

India-Pakistan issue is nothing more than Punjab issue, at least right now.
Pakistan was created in 1947, but it ended in 1971 with the separation of East Pakistan.
The tendency of Pakistani Punjab for Kashmir is basically the way Khalsa launched its campaigns in Kashmir in 1800s, so basically Pakistani Muslims are reincarnation of Khalsa-era Sikhs.

India gave MFN ( Most Favoured Nation ) status to Pakistan in 1996, for enhancing trade. Pakistan never reciprocated. Finally India withdrew MFN status to Pakistan in Feb 2019 after Pulwama terrorist atrocity. Pak military does not want good relations with India. It will drastically reduce their importance within Pakistan. They have controlled everything in Pak since the 1950s. Civilian politicians have no power to do anything.

Why does he keep insisting on keeping Pakistan intact? Would he have said the same thing in 1970 and early 1971? Can there be any doubt over the fact that the separation of Bangladesh from West Pakistan was a good thing for humanity? Why can't he recognize that his account of the partition of India inexorably leads to the conclusion that Pakistan should be dismantled?! Sindudesh, Balochistan, and Pakthoonistan will do much more for their respective inhabitants than the monstrosity called Pakistan ever could. Pakistan is not a piece of geography or a nation state, it is a pernicious idea, and one that should be consigned to the dung heap of history. The sooner, the better.
