In an interview, Jacob Tremblay (Max) said he was denied entry to see the film in theaters because of his age. He pointed out his face on the poster to the employee, but they still refused to let him in. He ultimately had to wait for someone over 18 to escort him and his friends.

I remember the actress for Juliet in the og Romeo and Juliet movie said the same thing in regards to trying to see the Romeo and Juliet movie since she was underage at the time when the movie was made. Basically bringing up the question "ok, if I'm too young to see it then why am I even in the movie?"

Fun fact: The school used in the film was Jacob Tremblay's real-life school. According to the director, 15 schools were considered for the film, but they liked Jacob's school the best.

Here’s a bit of authenticity I liked. I noticed during the scene where Lucas is telling his parents what happened & they think he’s lying, his dad used the word “fibbing.” In a lot of black households, we weren’t allowed to say words like “lie,” “lying,” or “liar.” Not sure why but they were considered just as bad as curse words lol. We would say “telling a story” instead. Not sure how common that is for other people. I’m from the south so could just be a southern thing.

According to the cinematographer, the most challenging scene to shoot was the boys running across the highway, which took 3 days of filming & 2 days of stunt & visual effects to achieve. Since the crew weren’t able to film on a real highway due to active traffic, they used a makeshift 300-ft highway on an unused airport runway instead.

I love how they showed a skit where the boys were told they would not be able to see the movie until they were 18. The movie itself was pretty neat.

"I feel like they should be 40". That is the joke of that scene. The dialogue is written like it is a scene of them meeting up 10 years later after a stereotypical young adult comedy film.
