Hello angels !! In this episode in the artist in Paris diaries I want to sit down and talk about some lessons I've learned about being authentic and taking up space online and in real life! There has been a lot of talk about the need to practice getting over the fear of being seen and how practicing that muscle can lead to confidence and creating connections. I think the more we show up as ourselves and shine brightly, the more we can really find our community. "Being cringe doesn't exist" - this is my mantra now!!! I've always had an aversion to the word "cringe" when it comes to art and unique expression. Your art and videos and way of living really have helped me embrace my authentic self!
"Let's make social media fun again." Social media has been making me so miserable the last year or two I've mostly quit, but I wanna connect with people via art so bad ☹️ I went back through my instagram posts after watching this and it felt kinda like re-reading a journal, and remembering how I used to feel before this most recent depression of mine. I hope I can find that spark of the desire to share freely and openly again.

I love this so much🥺 I find I go so violently back and forth between being exposed, vulnerable and shining, to self isolating out of fear. I don't think I've ever aligned my outward times with truly doing what I want to do.. I found this very helpful💖
For anyone reading this, I saw something recently that may resonate with you. Life may always have problems, but problems that arise from living and pursuing your dreams are better/more tolerable than the those that arise from an unenjoyable life. It's worth the risk to be & be seen as you are.🌟

I really don't usually comment, but firstly I have to say that your videos have provided me such joy and comfort for years now. I have just gone through a tumultuous life upheaval (and still kind of am), and have found that pouring myself into a multitude of various art forms, allowing myself to be seen and sharing them with people has given me the perspective shift I so desperately needed. The pain of everything I went through was a blessing in disguise - I was hiding for such a long time and suddenly I have never felt so free. Thank you so much for your vulnerability and everything you do.

Dear Shayna, I just want to say how much your presence online, your openness and vulnerability helped me to go through a dark period in my life. I watched your separation videos abt divorce process, while I still was in my toxic marriage and wanted to get out of it. Now I am happily divorced myself. And now my anxiety level fell drastically, I mostly fall asleep calmly and wake up way more easily. I smile to myself and say kind words to myself. Thank you for having a courage to be true to yourself and to us as well. Seeing this really helps me to be true to myself. Like you said, those who truly love you stick with you. We love you Shayna. This is the revelation I've been working on this past couple of weeks since the eclipse, and you appear synchronistically⭐ I have all the tools to make my dreams come true, it's like big mental barrier. My therapist told me about this exercise. Every time I'm about to be vulnerable, replace the thought "I'm going to be judged", with "I want everyone to experience the same freedom and inner peace"

I'm an artistic roller skater and coach, I think I have such a worse fear of being seen, judged, and criticized, but definitely, the worst part is that I feel my own work is not good enough. Your perspective around this subject really hits me hard (been listening this vid all day long hahahah) this month I've decided to be disciplined with my own fear, even though I might feel it, I will posy my work on Instagram. (Still feels like sh*t but I really want to inspire people like u) hope u keep shining ✨️

Your videos are just what I need every time. I am working on being vulnerable enough to continue to share my process online. I’ve noticed that that seems to get the biggest response and in a positive way. Often I let fear get in the way of revealing what I think our mistakes or more complicated ways to do something. I need to just release, be free, and let go.

Great message. I've noticed the more authentic you become the more it triggers others into vindictive envy. They unconsciously envy your authenticity and so try to dim your light through shame, ratger than become more authentic themselves.

I know that so well. I was the top of every class throughout my entire schooling even in college I got a reward for having the highest overall grades in all classes throughout the schools history. I was also pretty (and nice and traumatised but no one cared about that) so the guys wanted to date me anyways. I got bullied by every girl. It was bad. Really bad... It never even occurred to mr to not take part in the lessons or dim my light. I mean I wasn't flaunting it but I really enjoyed it. I just wanted to be my true self. And I loved learning new things😅

watching you has inspired me to take a leap back into content creation. i revamped my Patreon account and I've made it to earn $100 a month in pledges. and while im appreciative of these wins, what brings me the most peace is knowing I did all of this myself. the beautiful thing about sharing content online is that there *is* room for everyone, and the profiles they create allow them to have 100% control. which is something we lack in everyday life. it's liberating when you allow yourself to freely create, to love the process *as well* as the results. seeing you make these videos about your journals is always a grounding reminder that i would rather choose a life where i am creating vs. living life for the sake of something else outside of me. hope to pick this journal up soon! much love from nyc xxxx

This video was so relatable. I want to be more and more creative and explore new things, and let my creativity and intuition to take the lead, but still I hate being perceived. At the same time, I would like people would appreciate me and see my creative talent, that I have something to share with the world. And when I finally find the courage of exposing myself, life gets in the way, my mental health decline, and I don't feel motivated and safe anymore. I don't really know how to escape from this cycle.

Oh Shayna, I so identify with your feelings about "not shining" so that we can fit in And my gosh, all I every want is to have a great time with my friends and find that some of them are just now sharing the "light". That said, Ive learned to go ahead and shine and have a good time as well. Yes, some of those friends have gone away and I can see that I was always "feeding" their egos and finally stopped! omg, I thought about the "when I share a win, i'd love my friends to be happy with me" and how it really is a tall order. I think it truly is a tall order. It's a great thing to expect but I don't think anyone is every taught how to do that. We're competing from the start for grades and sports.

Im pausing the video to comment so I don't forget. So you are talking about shining brightly and dimming that light and not wanting other people to see us in the process of doing a thing. It reminded me of a play I was in once. It was going terribly. One of the leads couldn't remember his lines and he would panic during silent moments and accidentally blurt out the wrong lines. So the rest of us were saying all our lines super fast so he wouldn't rewrite the play while we were on stage live. It was chaos. I told one of the other actors, "I can't invite anyone to see this play. It's going to be terrible." She said, "So what? Your friends' job is to support you, not this play, but you. So they can come watch this shitty play and be a good friend and support YOU." My perspective shifted forever after that. Everything doesn't have to be perfect...it can just be. And me (or you or anyone else) just doing a thing is enough. TAKE UP SPACE. Ok now I can watch the rest of the video. Love you.
