I'd never heard Tacky before. What a fantastic song.
(I own three pairs of Crocs, all of them camo patterns.)

I knew the moment I saw the length of Jackson Park Express that it was Weird Al's final Shaggy Dog Song and frankly I loved it

I like to think of Sports Song as the spiritual successor to Tom Lehrer's Harvard Fight Song, but the latter is still superior.
Also, I listened to this album last week, and I can forgive Jackson Park Express a lot thanks to the line "I would make any sacrifice for your love / Goat, chicken, whatever."

I hadn't even thought of the Harvard Fight Song, but you are 100% right. That recontextualizes it a bit, because Al is a well-known fan of Lehrer.

I also never listened to Word Crimes. Listening to it, it makes me think of a short personal anecdote. Several years back a guy in a RUclips comment reply corrected me over a misuse of then/than. I have a distinct memory of screengrabbing his correction and posting it elsewhere to make fun of him. Stupid, fussy randos on the internet and all that, am I right?
However, I will confess now today that this correction has lived rent-free in my head ever since. I always check my use of then/than, and I'm at least pretty sure I've gotten it mostly right in the years since.

I am a long time, maybe not life time, but like 30 year long Weird Al fan and have viewed and enjoyed all of these albums reviews. You guys are some grumpy, contrarian fuckers, and I say that respectfully. I actually agree with you guys more than I disagree, I can't say I can dismiss your pick choices, knowledge, or options. I agree with your Polka stances, though I rate the ones you rate lower even higher. There are some keen insights here. I appreciate the scrutiny and old man yells at cloud energy, I do. But man oh man, I can't fathom the collective hate of what you guys deem 'shaggy dog stories' songs, especially Jackson Park Express and Genius in France which I consider masterpieces. I can understand not liking them even, not being your cup of tea sure. But the vitriol and rancor you guys smite these with, damn, I can't even get mad, I just get confused, befuddled, as if I, or you, are missing something. Like we need a Rosetta Stone to decipher a serious mistranslation. I want to buy you all beers and just yell at you for three hours. Bravo.

Of the three of us, Ricky is a bit more down on them. For me, there's only one I find truly unlistenable (Trapped in the Drive-Thru). One I can understand but wore out its welcome (Albuquerque), One is extremely niche and my C rank is based on two factors (Genius in france). Jackson Park Express... it just did nothing for me. Some of the nuance gets lost in the edit. But it's just not my cuppa. TBH Albuquerque would have been fine if it was just Albuquerque, but the other really long songs definitely lower ABQ in my eyes. It's nothing wrong with ABQ itself... it just taught Al some wrong lessons, IMO. But that's just one man's opinion. After all, Al is the beloved comedy genius, not me. :)
HOWEVER, Albuquerque is great in The Illustrated Al. The visual jokes elevate it entirely and I appreciate it a lot more in written form. I'd give ABQ in The Illustrated Al an A, easily.
