    Love it, Stan. Thanks and a happy new year to you!
    I am wrapped in my YNP map blanket and just now zoomed in on Specimen Creek, not far from Gardiner. I sure enjoy the comfy blanket with the wonderful map that I purchased in that amazing park. Thanks again for the trek!

      Happy new year to you also. I don’t know if you have hiked Specimen Creek before, but if you haven’t, spring is a good time to do it. You will probably see plenty of bear tracks on the trail if you start out early.

    I'm amazed you still hike in the winter. WOW!

    • @StanMills
      @StanMills  20 дней назад +2

      The hard part is getting motivated enough to drive for a few hours to get there and then hike for several hours and probably not see any wildlife. I really want to see wildlife, but in the winter it is very hard. It can still be nice to get out and enjoy the winter beauty though, so that is why I still do winter hiking. But it is a lot of work.

    Stan, out walking in a winter wonderland. Thank you, and a Happy New Year!

    • @StanMills
      @StanMills  15 дней назад +1

      I wish I could be walking. Snowshoeing is always twice the amount of work. But the idea is to just spend a certain amount of time out enjoying the winter wonderland, and not worrying about distance.

      It is beautiful out there in the winter but the drive to get there is not much fun.

      Yes, as you know, it is always so peaceful to get out in nature, especially in winter if it is not too cold. It was about 35F, real nice. Happy New Year.

    Stan, thanks for the winter video. Would you say the snow pack there is about average at this point? Here in Northern Utah, our snow pack is down quite a bit.

      I'm also in Northern Utah, Brigham City, and we just keep getting mostly rain.

    • @StanMills
      @StanMills  21 день назад +3

      I would say just a tad bit below average in this spot.

    Hi Stan! Great minds think alike lol. We went out to that missing bridge a week before you on Dec 21. I guess maybe the 2022 flood got it. I can see it was still there on satellite imagery from 2021. Anyway we saw a goodly amount of wolf tracks and moose tracks that day. I can see from your video that our tracks at the bridge were already snowed over. Also, and you probably know this, but there is some very interesting petrified stuff on the ridges near there.

    • @StanMills
      @StanMills  17 дней назад

      @@JoshuaCrunk several years ago there used to be a sign that showed where the petrified stuff was on the trail.

    • @JoshuaCrunk
      @JoshuaCrunk 16 дней назад

      @@StanMills I believe removing that sign was probably a good thing, although I don't know where the sign was located or which spot it pointed toward. The amount of stuff I found up there this summer only about a mile or two off trail was astonishing, not just the numerous logs but huge petrified leaves all over the place in one spot. I know scientists have scoured the ridges from there to Tom Miner already, but I wonder what discoveries they may have missed. Anyway, can email you some pics if you are interested.

    Beautiful winter wonderland. Feel kinda sorry for the Bighorn Sheep scrounging for food. They look fat and healthy now but have a long hard winter ahead. Hopefully they'll find plenty to eat.

    • @StanMills
      @StanMills  19 дней назад +1

      I think they have plenty to eat. If you watch closely, it looks like they eat the weeds and skip the grass. Thanks for your comments.
