I think it’s a name Greenlee and Kendall came up with together. Or maybe it was a nickname Greenlee came up with and it just stuck with Kendall. However, Ryan was correct. Spike does fit in a “Kendall as his mom” kinda way.
Plus it’s also a crossover nod that the show does with Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Sarah Michelle Gellar originated the role of Kendall on AMC. She then went on to do Buffy. On Buffy, there’s the character Harmony Kendall and on Angel (the spinoff of Buffy), Angel created Windham and Hart. As in Kendall Hart. Buffy and Angel had a character named Spike on there who Buffy dated. So on AMC Kendall’s first son was named Spike. The actor that played Anton, Kendall’s first love/husband, played Dracula on Buffy. They made many nods to each show on the other show.
