    I was a Seventh-day Adventist for 15 years before finding out that the early SDA church was non-trinitarian. The SDA church organized in 1863 as a distinctly non trinitarian church. The trinity doctrine began creeping in with John Harvey Kellogg in the early 1900’s. It was finally voted in as a doctrine in 1980. When I first heard about this I went back and studied what the pioneers of the SDA church believed. They believed very similar to what these two gentlemen are saying. The difference being that they taught that Jesus was begotten back in the days of eternity, before anything was created, thus the “by whom all things” in 1st Corinthians 8:6.” In other words, when God says that he sent his son, that means that God had a son to send. So when Jesus was born in Bethlehem, the son of God became the son of man. After studying the subject for about two years, I decided I could no longer be a trinitarian! The Michigan Conference Decided that if I believed that Jesus was truly the son of God then I had to be disfellowshipped!! And so I was!!
    I’ve never been happier!

      How many have carefully researched the history of the Catholic church, from before its beginning in 392 C.E. when eastern Roman Emperor Theodosius I made it the state religion till today ? Even staunch Catholics probably have not, but its history is riddled with cruelty and murder, as well as the absorption of paganism that it "Christianized" to make it appear as "genuine", so that the REAL meaning of "catholic" is "all-embracing; all-inclusive, universal", accepting pagan doctrines and practices and giving them "Christian" names.
      At Matthew 23, Jesus said: "“The scribes and the Pharisees have seated themselves in the seat of Moses........All the works they do, they do to be seen by men, for they broaden the scripture-containing cases that they wear as safeguards and lengthen the fringes of their garments."
      "They like the most prominent place at evening meals and the front seats in the synagogues and the greetings in the marketplaces and to be called Rabbi by men. But you, do not you be called Rabbi (as a religious title), for one is your Teacher, and ALL of you are brothers."
      "Moreover, do NOT call anyone your father on earth (as a religious title), for one is your Father, the heavenly One (see John 17:11, in which ONLY God is called "Holy Father"). Neither be called leaders, for your Leader is one, the Christ.(Note: the Catholic church is notorious for many such religious titles, from priest, to bishop, Archbishop to Cardinal, to Monsignor (meaning "my lord"), to Pope, to Jesuit, to monk, etc)
      Some of these are that the original "Pontifex Maximus" (meaning "Supreme Priest" or "senior ancient Roman priest", Microsoft Encarta Reference Library 2005), also called "the pontif " was NOT Christian, but rather Augustus Caesar was proclaimed the first "Pontifex Maximus" in 12 B.C.E. and this continued until 382 C.E., when the "bishop" of Rome was given authority over all the other "bishops".
      At that time, the western Roman Emperor Gratian (reigned 367-83 C.E.) was "a firm supporter of the (apostate) Christian church, (and) he began the process of disassociating the Roman state from the old pagan religion. Refusing the title of pontifex maximus (chief priest), traditionally held by emperors, he ordered the shrine of the goddess Victory removed from the Senate house and ended financial support for the pagan cults."(Microsoft Encarta Reference Library 2005)
      In 382 C.E., Emperor Gratian issued a constitution granting Damasus, "bishop" of Rome, the right to hear appeals by other bishops, even those in “more distant regions” of the Empire. Although this decision was contested by Eastern bishops, and even by some in the West, it undoubtedly gave ascendancy to the "bishop" of Rome.
      Bishop Damasus accepted the insignia of Pontifex Maximus, a PAGAN title and office that Emperor Gratian had renounced, considering it unbefitting a Christian ! Damasus, on the other hand, had NO such scruples. According to The Catholic Encyclopedia, Pontifex Maximus is still considered to be one of the “most noteworthy of the titles” borne by the pope. In French the pope is still called le souverain pontife, the supreme pontiff.
      Former Catholic priest Peter de Rosa noted in his book, Vicars of Christ - The Dark Side of the Papacy (pub in 1988), that with the appointment of Tomas de Torquemada in 1483 by Pope Sixtus IV, that "in the pope’s name, [the inquisitors] were responsible for the most savage and sustained onslaught on human decency in the history of the race.”(pg 123) Of Dominican inquisitor (and friar) Tomas de Torquemada in Spain, he says: “Appointed in 1483, he ruled tyrannically for fifteen years. His victims numbered over 114,000 of whom 10,220 were burned" on the stake.(pg 129)
      Pope Innocent III (reigned 1198-1216 C.E.) sent monk Arnold Amalric with 300,000 crusaders to Beziers, in southern France in 1209 C.E. and murdered some 20,000 men, women and children who followed the Cathari teachings and was the beginning of the Albigensian Crusade.
      And when Arnold Amalric's men asked how to distinguish between Catholics and "heretics", he reportedly told them: "Slay them all; God will recognize His own", this being the beginning of a deadly crusade that would end some twenty years later in 1229 C.E., and would cost possibly one million - Cathari, Waldenses and even Catholics - of their lives.
      Another of the Catholic church's "weapons" were the Inquisitions, such as the Spanish Inquisition (Nov 1, 1478-1834 C.E.) that was established to combat "heresy" originally in Spain and "achieved that end through infamously brutal methods" (website Britannica dot com) as well as the Roman Inquisition that began in 1542 C.E. under the reign of Pope Paul III (reigned 1534-49 C.E.), who was alarmed at the spread of Protestanism, and in which both were preceded by the deadly Catholic Crusades from the 11th to 13th centuries.
      And this is just the "tip of the iceberg" of Catholic history, for four different men wrote of brutal and murderous accounts of popes and their worshippers, such Johann Burchard (1450-1506 C.E.), master of ceremonies during the reigns of five popes (from Pope Sixtus IV thru Pope Julius II, whose uncle was Pope Sixtus IV), priest born in the region of Alsace, France and chronicler during the Italian Renaissance.
      And of John Foxe of England who wrote "Acts and Monuments of the Church" in 1554 C.E., that was later renamed as "Book of Martyrs", that described the murderous path of the Catholic church, as well as Jean Crespin wrote of similiar acts of cruelty in France in 1554 C.E., in his book also called "Book of Martyrs", while Ludwig Rabus also wrote his "Book of Martyrs" in German of acts of brutality by the Catholic church in 1554 C.E.

      Many trinitarians say to read from the New Testament first when it skips the context it has from the basis of the Old Testament first. They create/or develop a methodology to reach a conclusion which is not one that starts with the Old Testament first instead they teach people a presupposition that God is a trinity and that there are text that teach that… that’s ridiculous… The trinity is becoming harder to challenge because now there are newer forms of the trinity: William lane Craig has one version the Catholics have a different version etc.. Jehovahs witnesses due to following the shema of the Old Testament follows the consistency of Old Testament theology and see the revelation of the son of God as a divine being who is a god.. we are in the middle ground between the Jewish theology and that of the Christian orthodox view of Jesus of today… JWs follows the Old Testament identity of God with the acceptance of the Christ the son of God.. without establishing an equivalence between three people co eternal co-equal all powerful for them all..

    There are several oblique comments made in the closing of some of the epistles, and dealt with specifically in the Book of Jude that suggest there was conflict within the Church toward the close of the First Century. It has been claimed by some this conflict was between the teachings of the Apostles and the false "apostles" headed by Simon Magus. It is alleged that "Father Simon" or Simon Pater in Latin eventually became Simon "Peter" the first Pope of the Roman Church. It is also said "the victors write the histories" and the history of the Roman Church reflects this (in my opinion). The accepted doctrines of the Early Church as described in Acts and the various Epistles is quite different than the one being displayed in the writings of the Church Fathers, and by the time Constantine came on the scene, is unrecognizable from the one established by the Early Church.
    Another bugaboo of mine is too many Christians today did not listen in English class in high school. While the KJV may not be the most accurate translation available today, it does, however, use the English language more accurately than any other I have in my possession. For one instance, being "equal to" is not the same as 'equal with'. Jesus Christ (in Philippians 2) is equal with not equal to. The eldest son of a king was considered to be equal with his father but obviously was not identical to his father. The word 'trinity' itself is a contraction of 'tri-unity' and did not mean a 'tri-identity' because even a cursory glance at scripture will reveal things regarding the Father that the Son does not have. The best example I give people when this comes up in discussion is the relationship Joseph had with Pharoah, who basically said "all affairs of Egypt I am conferring on you Joseph, except matters of the throne room only. So, Joseph was in authority "pharoah", just as all things regarding the Church are under Jesus's purview, making Him "god" to the Church, but not the same as His Father.
    Another point which I believe the Trinity accomplishes (but not by Him) is it clouds the true relationship we have with the Lord. John 14:12 says 'verily verily I say unto you, he that believeth on me, the works that I do, shall he do also. And, greater works than these shall he do because I go unto my Father." If one believes the Trinity, how can one logically embrace this command from the Lord? Do the same works as God? But if Jesus is a man, albeit a perfect man who is capable of redeeming me, then it becomes far more attainable.

      It is not an allegation. It is FACT. In Acts 8, Peter prophesied to Simon Magus that he would become a bitter enemy against God's Church, and that is exactly what he became by the middle of the 1st century. The heresies his movement spread is apparent in the issues or doctrines that the apostles addressed in their epistles.

    Joh 16,28-32 I came forth from the Father, and am come into the world: again, I leave the world, and go to the Father. 29 His disciples said unto him, Lo, now speakest thou plainly, and speakest no proverb. 30 Now are we sure that thou knowest all things, and needest not that any man should ask thee: by this we believe that thou camest forth from God. 31 Jesus answered them, Do ye now believe? 32 Behold, the hour cometh, yea, is now come, that ye shall be scattered, every man to his own, and shall leave me alone: and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me.
    Joh 17,1-26 {THE PRAYER TO BE GLORIFIED}
    These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee: 2 As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him. 3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. 4 I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do. 5 And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.
    6 {THE PRAYER FOR THE DISCIPLES}
    I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word. 7 Now they have known that all things whatsoever thou hast given me are of thee. 8 For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me; and they have received [them], and have known surely that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me. 9 I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine. 10 And all mine are thine, and thine are mine; and I am glorified in them. 11 And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we [are]. 12 While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled. 13 And now come I to thee; and these things I speak in the world, that they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves. 14 I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. 15 I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil. 16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. 17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. 18 As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world. 19 And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.
    20 {THE PRAYER FOR THE CHURCH}
    Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; 21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, [art] in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. 22 And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one: 23 I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me. 24 Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world. 25 O righteous Father, the world hath not known thee: but I have known thee, and these have known that thou hast sent me. 26 And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare [it]: that the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them.
    Joh 18,5-8 They answered him, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus saith unto them, I am [he]. And Judas also, which betrayed him, stood with them. 6 As soon then as he had said unto them, I am [he], they went backward, and fell to the ground. 7 Then asked he them again, Whom seek ye? And they said, Jesus of Nazareth. 8 Jesus answered, I have told you that I am [he]: if therefore ye seek me, let these go their way:
    Joh 18,12-14 {JESUS BEFORE JEWISH AUTHORITIES}
    Then the band and the captain and officers of the Jews took Jesus, and bound him, 13 And led him away to Annas first; for he was father-in-law to Caiaphas, which was the high priest that same year. 14 Now Caiaphas was he, which gave counsel to the Jews, that it was expedient that one man should die for the people.
    Joh 18,31 Then said Pilate unto them, Take ye him, and judge him according to your law. The Jews therefore said unto him, It is not lawful for us to put any man to death:
    Joh 18,33-34 Then Pilate entered into the judgment hall again, and called Jesus, and said unto him, Art thou the King of the Jews? 34 Jesus answered him, Sayest thou this thing of thyself, or did others tell it thee of me?
    Joh 18,36-37 Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence. 37 Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.
    Joh 19,3 And said, Hail, King of the Jews! and they smote him with their hands.
    Joh 19,6-8 When the chief priests therefore and officers saw him, they cried out, saying, Crucify [him], crucify [him]. Pilate saith unto them, Take ye him, and crucify [him]: for I find no fault in him. 7 The Jews answered him, We have a law, and by our law he ought to die, because he made himself the Son of God. 8 When Pilate therefore heard that saying, he was the more afraid;
    Joh 19,11-12 Jesus answered, Thou couldest have no power [at all] against me, except it were given thee from above: therefore he that delivered me unto thee hath the greater sin. 12 And from thenceforth Pilate sought to release him: but the Jews cried out, saying, If thou let this man go, thou art not Caesar's friend: whosoever maketh himself a king speaketh against Caesar.
    Joh 19,14-16 And it was the preparation of the passover, and about the sixth hour: and he saith unto the Jews, Behold your King! 15 But they cried out, Away with [him], away with [him], crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Shall I crucify your King? The chief priests answered, We have no king but Caesar. 16 Then delivered he him therefore unto them to be crucified. And they took Jesus, and led [him] away.

    The "Holy Trinity" was created by apostate Christianity (the "weeds" at Matthew 13:24-30, the "antichrists", meaning "against (or instead) of Christ", at 1 John 2:18-23), that developed from an argument between "priest" Arius and "deacon" Athanasius, of Alexandria, Egypt.
    The Roman Empire already had it own "trinity", whereby "with the goddesses Juno and Minerva, Jupiter formed the triad whose worship was the central cult of the Roman state."(Microsoft Encarta Reference Library 2005) With Constantine (reigned 306-337 C.E.) giving the once persecuted "Christians" under his predecessor, Diocletian (reigned 284-305 C.E.), the "green light" the freedom to practice their religion and be part of the government, they became "part of the world" with its politics.
    With Constantine’s support, Catholicism eventually became the official State religion of Rome in 392 C.E., when Roman Emperor Theodosius I (reigned 379-395 C.E., who was baptized as a "Christian" in 380 C.E.) made it a "law" that only so-called "Christianity" could be practiced, banning what he called paganism.
    Up "to that time, he had basically tolerated the pagans and had entrusted adherents of the old cults with the highest offices.......On November 8, 392, he (Theodosius I) made his edicts of 391 ("the principles of religious intolerance") more stringent by completely prohibiting the worship of the pagan gods."(Encyclopedia Britannica)
    Elaine Pagels, a professor of religion at Princeton University, explains: “Christian bishops, once targets for arrest, torture, and execution (under Diocletian's rule), now received tax exemptions, gifts from the imperial treasury, prestige, and even influence at court; their churches gained new wealth, power, and prominence.” They had become friends of the emperor, friends of the Roman world, becoming an "enemy of God".(see James 4:4)
    With the disagreement between about 69 year Arius (256-336 C.E.) and about 32 year old Athanasius (c. 293-373 C.E. and who did NOT compose the Athanasian Creed), of who God and Jesus were, with Arius saying that Jesus as the Son is inferior to the Father while Athanasius said they were equal, both God.
    This started to "make waves" or create fractures in Constantine's empire, so that he convened all the "bishops" at Nicaea, (that is now the Turkish city of Iznik), but only which only about 300 actually came, and in which Eusebius (who became known as the father of church history) attended, while Pope Sylvestor I (pope from 314 to 335 C.E.) did not attend though sending a legate.
    The Encyclopædia Britannica says that at the Council of Nicaea, “Constantine himself presided, actively guiding the discussions, and personally proposed . . . the crucial formula expressing the relation of Christ to God in the creed issued by the council, ‘of one substance with the Father’ . . ."
    "Overawed by the emperor, the bishops (including Eusebius, who initially favored Arius, but was seated at the right hand of Constantine, as someone "special", changed to Athanasius view), with two exceptions only, signed the creed, many of them much against their inclination.” Then with the Council of Constantinople in 381 C.E., it said that the holy spirit should be glorified, and in 382 C.E. at another synod in Constantinople, it gave full divinity to the holy spirit.
    The Encyclopedia Britannica further said that the first Council of Nicaea in 325 C.E. "was called by the emperor Constantine I, an unbaptized catechumen, who presided over the opening session and took part in the discussions. He hoped a general council of the church would solve the problem created in the Eastern church by Arianism, a heresy first proposed by Arius of Alexandria that affirmed that Christ is not divine but a created being."
    In that same year of 382 C.E., Pope Damasus (who readily accepted the title of Pontifex Maximus, meaning "Supreme Priest", in 382 C.E. from Roman Emperor Gratian who rejected it, transferring this pagan title from a Roman Emperor to "the Bishop of Rome") presented a collection of Catholic doctrines called "the Tome of Damasus" (and written in Latin), and whereby "the Holy Trinity" was finalized it with the Council of Chalcedon in 451 C.E., adding "in the mix" that the holy spirit is "the third person of the Holy Trinity".
    It took more than 400 years after Jesus death in 33 C.E., for "the Holy Trinity" to develop and become official church doctrine, that contrasts with God's Kingdom, that was CLEARLY explained and understood while Jesus was alive (see Matt 13:1-52; Mark 1:15; Luke 8:1), as well as fully grasping that Jesus is NOT God, for the apostle Peter told Jesus that "you are the Christ, the Son of the living God".(Matt 16:16)
    Jesus made CLEAR that he is God's unique Son, telling Nicodemus: "For God loved the world so much that he gave his only-begotten Son (with the word "begotten" meaning "to father a child", see Matt 1:1-16, where the Greek gennao is used, that means "to procreate (properly, of the father), to regenerate, offspring, progeny", whereby "Abraham begat Isaac", KJV), so that everyone exercising faith in him might not be destroyed but have everlasting life. For God did not send his Son into the world for him to judge the world, but for the world to be saved through him."(John 3:16, 17)
    Matthew 27:41-43 reads of Jesus: "In the same way also, the chief priests with the scribes and the elders began mocking him, saying: “Others he saved; himself he cannot save ! He is King of Israel; let him now come down off the torture stake, and we will believe in him. He has put his TRUST IN GOD; let Him now rescue him if He wants him, for he said, ‘I am God’s SON.’”

    24 Next, the end, when he hands over the kingdom to his God and Father, when he has brought to nothing all government and all authority and power. 25 For he must rule as king until [God] has put all enemies under his feet. 26 As the last enemy, death is to be brought to nothing. 27 For [God] “subjected all things under his feet.” But when he says that all things have been subjected,’ it is evident that it is with the exception of the one who subjected all things to him. 28 But when all things will have been subjected to him, then the Son himself will also subject himself to the One who subjected all things to him, that God may be all things to everyone.
    This subject proves that, like 2 Tim 3:1-5 "the people will not agree to anything" they are wicked and love to argue - to get some more narcissistic supply.
    The people are sick, our whole society is suffering from a severe case of narcissism, and they will argue about anything just to fluff their egos. They learn it from watching Jerry Springer, Court TV, reality TV, late night TV and sick-coms, where all you see is people attacking, insulting and disrespecting one another for the entire 30 minutes or an hour.
    If the trinity is true or not is not going to change a damn thing in their lives other than give them something to argue about and waste more time and energy on stupidity.
    Lord have mercy on these wicked people.

    The Trinitiy won because God promised his church was the pillar and foundation of truth and he would guide his church into the end of the age. To be unitarian is to deny God's promise and to believe he led his church into apostacy within the first 100 years of its existence. I was unitarian, please study church history and leave this heresy guys.

      If that were the case then there would be no Roman Catholic church or 100s of denominations. Leave it to sinful humans to always mess things up.

      You have totally failed to read the Bible, particularly the many New Testament warnings about the rise of false prophets who will deceive many believers. If you claim to have studied church history, then how did you miss the false prophet named Philo of Alexandria, who mixed Platonic ideas with Judaism, and thereby influenced early church teachings? Scholars do not deny that Plato's ideas were used to "aid" in understanding the Gospel of John, especially in the prologue usage of "logos." If you claim to have fully understood God's revelation of himself to man through His prophets and through His son as mentioned in Hebrews 1, coupled with the dire warnings to God's people about incorporating pagan religious ideas into Judaism, then how can you voluntarily adopt pagan philosophy as a guide to the truth?

      We know for a fact that Jesus was a man while on earth. Everyone agrees on this because it is evident to all. Beyond this, what matters is whether you believe Jesus spoke the truth, and whether you obey Him as a result of that belief.
      The sheep and the goats aren't separated based on whether they guessed correctly concerning what Jesus is. They are separated based on how they responded to Jesus' instructions.
      Those of faith will naturally respond with obedience as if it is the most logical and natural thing to them. And to them, God will respond by giving help at every point through His Spirit. It's no coincidence that the Spirit is called "the Helper". The Spirit helps those who already have their hearts set on knowing God and doing His will.
      Those who aren't of the faith will naturally respond with skepticism concerning the merits, validity and power of what they are being asked to do, regarding the Lord's instructions as foreign, strange and unreasonable. Yet some of them may even put up a pretense of agreeing with God by outwardly performing some instructions robotically and ritualistically, or even making up their own instructions to keep. But Jesus still knows who is of His sheep and who isn't, and will promptly separate His sheep from the goats.
