    That final shot when it's revealed that the place was actually an ancient Aztec temple.... was so satisfying, so perfect.
    A place where human sacrifices were made, seems like the perfect relax spot for vampires...

      A tv movie was made back in 1990 called I'm Dangerous Tonight, involving a cloak worn during sacrifices. B movie, starring Madchen Amick. It's available on dvd or bluray, don't know if it's streaming anywhere. Directed by Tobe Hooper (Poltergeist, Texas Chainsaw Massacre).

      Born in East LA will always be one of my favorite films. A criminally underrated classic with next to zero reactions videos about it. I mean even the tall criminal guy from Home Alone is in this one, and he is just perfect in the role of a sleezy hustler who obviously escaped to Mexico to avoid lawsuits.

    the scene where Seth comes back with the burgers is masterful. Seth is well established as a vicious, hardened, murderer, but when he sees what Richie did he is stopped dead in his tracks, absolutely stunned. We don't need to see what happened, we can read it all in Seth's face.

      Agreed. Seth will kill without hesitation, but only if he feels it's necessary to survive/escape. He won't lose any sleep over **having** to kill someone, but he'd be perfectly content to complete every one of his "jobs" with a zero body count. Richie has no such filter.

    The main thing about this movie is that it's a great role for Tom Savini, the guy who created the special effects for many of the classic horror movies of the 1980s. He's probably done more than any single individual to shape the look of modern horror movies.
    You should probably familiarize yourself with the work of Selma Hayak who played the vampire queen Satanico Pandemonium because if you think she was something in this movie, you haven't seen anything yet.

    Quentin wrote the screenplay. Robert Rodriguez directed the film. He has a good filmography too. From the Spy Kids to Desperado. It's just strange seeing Quentin act more than just a cameo lol.

    I think this was the film when people started saying, "Umm, Quentin, what's with the feet?" BUT, Selma Hayek sticking her foot in your mouth while pouring liquor down her leg is a Blessing!! Haha! This movie is an homage to 70's-80's horror films that were sort of cheap, gory, and sexually exploitative. They did something similar again in the 'double feature' "Planet of Terror/Deathproof", featuring Kurt Russell!

    Ashley, I don't care if it's for Hallowbeans or not, watch "Practical Magic", amazing adaptation of Alice Hoffman's novel. Fantastic cast, whip smart script, , gorgeous cinematography, awesome soundtrack directed by Griffin Dunne, a steady career character actor himself (first name is his mother activist Ellen Griffin's maiden name, Dunne portrayed the best friend Jack Goodman in "An American Werewolf In London") whose late sister Dominique Dunne (named after their father noted writer & journalist Dominick Dunne) portrayed the older teenage daughter in the original "Poltergeist".

    Harvey Keitel does not get the credit he deserves for this vastly underrated performance. He is fantastic in this, like in just about everything he does. But there are so many great parts and performances and moments in this film that his character almost gets lost, even though he's the sneaky emotional center.

      Absolutely, honestly his performance in this movie is why I enjoy the movie as much as I do. As much as the gore is awesome, even the comedy is good and the writing is fun - Keitel is just amazing in this movie.

    The band in the bar is an actual band. Tito and Tarantula. The singer with the guitar made of body parts is a friend of Robert Rodriguez’s, Tito Larriva, who also acted in Desperado (along with Cheech, Tarantino, and Danny Trejo).

      As it should be. I had seen the Siskel & Ebert review and then forgot all about it. One day at the video store, I ask the clerk for a recommendation, told him I like Tarantino's stuff and he gave me Dusk Till Dawn. I didn't look at the cover and enjoyed the twist. I think they messed up with Predator. They shouldn't show the space ship at the beginning. Just make it look like a tough guy movie.

    It's so rare to see someone go into this movie without knowing the twist, it's one of the most spoiled movies around. Also really excited to see what you think of The Ring (the only horror movie I still can't watch alone) and I really hope you do Little Shop Of Horrors, it's a blast!

      Some thing else that gets over looked is the son's T-Shirt. Precinct 13.
      That is a throw back to a 1976 film Assault on Precinct 13. In that movies cops and prisoners have to join forces to fight off an attack by a gang.

    Someone mentioned this as an action/horror movie. It got me to remember the French action/horor flick called "Brotherhood of the Wolf". 7.0 IMDB rating. English dubbed isn't that bad, but really should be watched in French w/English subs.

    My dad isn’t a horror movie fan, or even a movie viewer in general. Which is why I was surprised a few years back when he asked if I had this movie and if he could watch it. Apparently he was watching something or other that featured a clip, the clip being the Time-Life book joke. And that one line was enough to convince my dad to see this as soon as possible.
    And he loved every second.

      The el Mariachi trilogy made him famous, which was only gritty because the first one was so low budget. The action was fun and stylized and nothing was taken too seriously. And he made the Spy Kids movies. His movies got grittier after he and Tarantino began melding into the same director.

    In my experience the older we get the less susceptible we are to getting crushes. I’m 47 and it has been decades since I had a “crush”. But the last crush I remember getting was Salma Hayek and it was from this movie and Desperado.

    Another horror movie that's a fun ride is "13 Ghosts". "The Innkeepers" is an underrated horror movie that's a bit different, but in a good way, and a fun watch as well. BTW, "The Innkeepers" was filmed in a hotel that reported to be actually haunted. And finally, Depp in "Sleepy Hollow" is a good, fun watch.

    I remember when this came out, I saw it at a friends house and we had no idea it was a vampire movie. So as you can imagine we were shocked when the big reveal happened.
    But George Clooney, Quentin Tarantino, Harvey Kaitel, Juliette Lewis, Salma Hawek, Cheech Marin, Danny Trejo, Fred Williamson and Tom Savini. It's like the greatest cast for a horror movie ever.
    Also this has my favorite quote of all time. "Did they look like psychos? Psychos do not explode when sunlight hits them, I don't give a $@^& how crazy they are!"

      28 Days is good but not unique.. a 70s movie called Nightmare City did the running thinking..driving cars and what not first. And I do prefer Nightmare City.

    Quentin Tarentino is a legend when it comes to violent action movies, hes done a lot of movies and knows exactly which actors to fit the roles. The female vampire is Selma Hayek, basically a mexican goddess. She did a movie a year before this one called Desperado, another of Quentins movie and i highly recommend it. Also on a small side note, if you are going to continue watching Quentins movies, leave your fear at the door, embrace the violence lol.

    And if you want to check out another Quentin Tarantino film ala Pulp Fiction, you should check out Jackie Brown. A pretty good cast that includes Pam Grier, Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Keaton and Robert De Niro.

    I think that this is the *perfect* Hallowbeans season opener, especially if you're going in blind.
    I went to see this at the cinema when it was first released and nobody in the group I was with had any idea what was going to happen. Best night at the cinema ever.

      I'm hoping for Little Shop one of these days too. At least three confirmed "future ex-husbands" for her to gush over in the same movie! The same composer and lyricist duo who made The Little Mermaid such a success just a few years later as well - and we already know Ashleigh loves that movie.
      If she ever sees LSoH, I hope she reacts to both endings. One is perfectly suited to Halloween and the other provides a fairytale finish she'd love.

    I remember stumbling upon this randomly on tv. Saw opening credits, saw Tarantino, decided to watch. I did NOT know AT ALL that this turns into a horror. Best shocking twist EVER.
    Also, can't wait for Seven :D
    Also also, this better be the original version of the Ring, the Japanese one :P
    Also also also, Tarantino did not direct it (Robert Rodriguez did) but HE WROTE IT! So he totally wrote THAT foot scene for himself, haha.

      I'm curious how she'll react to Seven. She's kind of the opposite of introspective, and that might shield her from the terrifying implications. It's a wildly different setting and circumstances, but I consider Seven to be in the same vein as the works of H.P. Lovecraft in the sense that it gives the audience a feeling of cosmic dread.

      More people should watch movies blindly like this. It can take you on quite a ride, and lets the creators craft a story that can give you genuine out-of-nowhere surprises. Modern pop culture has spoiled a lot of this surprise factor aspect, with people way too obsessed with trailers, hype, etc.

      Highly agree. I LOVE Four Rooms. I think it's a fantastic example of Tim Roth's comedic talents, which he does not get to flex as often as I think he should. He's a hilariously good actor, with great delivery and comedic timing.

    The "crotch gun" Tom Savini/Sex Machine was wearing was a prop that was first shown in Robert Rodriguez's previous movie Desperado. However it was never used probably since it didn't fit with the tone that movie was going for (great movie though with some other creative weapons that I won't spoil because you should really see them yourself when watching the movie) so he brought it back for this one and used it in a couple of his other projects like 20 years later in Machete Kills and the TV series From Dusk Till Dawn.

    I should have thought of this one before, but you need to review Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1992). Kristy Swanson, Donald Sutherland, Rutger Hauer, Luke Perry, Paul (Pee-wee Herman) Reubens, etc. The movie that was so good, they made it a TV Series.

    It's frickin Amazing!
    One minute it's a heist thriller then the next, it turns into a vampire action horror film!
    I watched this with my family on VHS, as well as Eraser and Fantastic Voyage.
    There is a TV series based on the movie that was released on the now defunct El Rey Network that ran from 2015-2017, with 30 episodes. Some of the episodes show the origin of The Gekko Brothers, Richie's Visions and what really happened to Jacob Fuller's wife.

    Dude. I stopped playing Animal Crossing the second I saw this was uploaded, it's that good! I just fucking love this and I loved watching your reactions, especially when it turned the corner and you saw the vampires!!
    Yeah, as others have said, Tarantino wrote the script and Robert Rodriguez directed, the story was written by a dude who made his name in Special Effects, probably studying the work of the guy who played Sex Machine. The cast is SO Robert Rodriguez, too - most of the more prominent cast, aside from George Clooney, Harvey Keitel, and Juliette Lewis are in almost all his movies, as are the two guys standing either side of Carlos at the end...you really should check out the rest of Rodriguez's filmography, he's brilliant.

    this movie is very special to me. 1. one time I watched it with four friends all huddled up on my bed, which ended up breaking it, but it was a lot of fun 2. for a while it was the only VHS I had in my room and I couldn't be bothered to go out of my room to see my parents so I watched it (as background noise while gaming) like 20 times in two days until I could verbatim quote every single line

    I didn't know ANYTHING about this movie before seeing it (kinda like you!), and was thinking, oh hey, this seems like a typical Tarantino film (when I saw this one, I had already seen Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown, Inglorious Bastards, etc.). Wow. I was kinda thrown for a loop, and then some. I'm still not really sure whether or not I truly LIKE this film, but the twist, for me, was SO unexpected, that I gotta give it credit for that, at least!

    I love watching this movie with someone blind to the whole premise. The genuine shock halfway through the movie gets me.
    Sadly there's very few reactions because almost everybody knows it's about vampires by now! Even the TV previews spoiled it back when it came out!
