Aww. Good reasons. I would actually buy that nylon string guitar if it was good, next to that little Schafe at 13:25. The public transportation point is just a great one, as Europe is at your doorstep. It’s so convenient and cheap to travel, especially throughout Germany or to other amazing and close locations. Especially in size and price comparison to the US and Canada. They are just so damn big, ne? Let alone the bad transportation.
wow i just love this video these super positive vibes just made my day - thank you! i think this is something that i as a german could learn from your culture looking at the bright side of life :)
I'm always irritated by the prices in Canada. You pack the products by reasonable prices and then they add governmental and provincial taxes and it got expensive.
About the Vereine and their affordability, Vereine (e.V.) in germany are not for profit. If they make profit they will loose their special tax status, so sponsor or donors are not allowed to deducte their own taxes with the donation they make. Thats why in germany the fees for a Vereinsmitgliedschaft (clubmembership)are quiet low. In our club (fussball) it comes down to 0,80 € for an hour of training or games. We offer 2-3 times training for 90 minutes and the league games on weekend.
One reason they "don't market the shit out of the products" is that there are some rules of mandatory labelling, covering visibility etc in EU, so you can see info in an easy standardised way. And sometimes country rules go even beyond that.
I remember watching American series with people eating ice cream in front of their TV and I was finding it weird indeed. Not that it doesn't happen at all, but here in Europe it's indeed an outdoors activity you do with friends on a nice day.
My favorite thing about living in Germany? The appreciation for the importance of public space, something that has rapidly disappeared in the US over the course of my lifetime.
Joining a club is not only serving your own interests but is also a great place to make friends. regardless what nationality you have. but i'm pretty sure you have already made this experience
I would like to join more clubs too! I was always so nervous because there’s actually not that many internationals in German clubs, I think perhaps for the same reason - they’re scared people won’t accept them
Thanks for the video, sometimes I don't really know what is special for my home country. And don't be shy to join ANY club you would like, I'm sure they will be happy to have you there and the language won't be a big problem. Just try it! (OK after the pandemic.) If you don't like it you can still quitt and look for another club.

European countries are deperately looking for foreigners. Most of these countries have special programs to support people willing to move to their country. Some will not only give you assistance in learning the language, find a home and a job, and bureaucratic stuff; they will even pay you money or will grant you things for less or even free that other (local) people have to pay for. If you ever thougth about moving to Europe, it might be the best time now to do so.
I really, really like ice cream. Yup, Germany is the place I need to live. Learn the cool language, eat as much ice cream as I can and not actually get fat cause I will bike everywhere. Seems like a great time to me.

Tolle Videos, es sollten alle ewig meckernden Deutschen schauen. Man bekommt einen neuen Blick auf das eigene Land! Es ist sicher nicht alles gut, aber vieles...
Great that you discovered the European approach on nudity and can embrace and enjoy its benefits. Baring it all on a beach is indeed something you have to experience yourself to feel how liberating it is. You are lucky living in Düsseldorf, having the Unterbacher See Südstrand with its nude sectionnext door, don't know if you had a chance to visit before the pandemic. Make sure you check it out if you haven't.
Netherlands ONLY one step further than Germany in bike culture?!? Really? Now you gone and done it... you insulted our amazing neighbors. They are so far ahead of Germany when it comes to biking that the only other country within reach to be as great would be Denmark. Germany still has TONS to do to even come into shouting distance of the Netherlands. Just kidding. Germany does quite okay in biking. :D But the Netherlands and Denmark really are SUPER bike-friendly. The joke goes that there are more clubs / Vereine in Germany than there is population. Education (free): yepp, for the students the education is tuition free. There is a study fee for the university, but that usually includes a semester ticket for the local public transportation network. It is usually around 350 -400€ per semester. Obviously you still pay for study materials such as books, notepads, whatever. But that's it. Sure, we pay for it through our taxes, but EVERYBODY pays for that for everyone. Community value is considered granted, not demanded. Once someone has had the opportunity to live and study here, many people do decide to stay for a longer period, maybe forever. So in the long run they will pay back their education cost via taxes, but just for the next generation. Germany has found that offering free education is in the long run a huge opportunity to get young, open-minded people to move to Germany and make their life here, improving Germany overall. Germany desperately needs young people with a bright outlook for the future living here. FKK / public nudity on beaches/ in saunas: yepp, and you get an absolutely insane boost to your body positivity. It is liberating. Checking around you and seeing all the skinny, chubby, old, young, crinkly, smooth, brown, pale, pimply, clean, tall, squat people don't giving a sh*t about their nude body just shows you that it is completely, totally natural. That everybody is different but the same at once. Different, in that everybody has something different to be 'proud' and/or 'ashamed' of when it comes to our bodies. The same that we are all not perfect. No-one really is perfect; or a least as "perfect" as the photoshopped or over-make-upped models in magazines, movies, or heck, even porn are. Once you realize that, you see that there is no reason to be 'ashamed' of anything on your body, and that you can be proud of it, no matter what. When would you otherwise get a chance and completely unashamedly see other bodies in their natural state other than on a nude beach or in the sauna?
You said everything so well in this comment! Yes - haha I totally underplayed the Netherland cycling culture 🤣 they are... AMAZING! And loved your comment about nudity - you are 100% on point!!

some things to say as a former german (now canadien). 1. cops in every corner (yes, they go by the book but that is not in your favor) 2. you can not even go fishing without a license and a test 3. not much nature left untouched with 85 million people 4. fascists on the rise (ok, that is almost everywhere the same) 5. autobahn? that is a moneymaker for cops , not a free ride ,traffic jams and radar everywhere. 6. many nice things to see but do not look behind the curtain of working class people. 7. healthcare is good but never get unemployed, they will force you in every shit job they have with a system called hartz4 . it takes away your healthcare , if you do not comply you are considered not searching for a job. the list can go on and on, just be careful what you wish for.

Come to Germany when you have german skills and not without. Without you will run into walls and you will struggle to achieve anything. "English only" usually does not work out for living here. English only works for visiting but in the second you wanna live here the expectations of those you have to talk to and work with change and all the paperwork is german of cause, the language @ work is german, ... and if you have children that go to school you can not epxect that teacher will speak english cause the director ask teachers to speak german only cause in the second they speak english they are responsible for any mistake and misunderstanding. Our school enforced a 1 language only policy cause this is germany ... and they had run into troubles about things that teachers had said in another language.
that's just not entirely true....maybe you had a shitty experience but especially in the beginning when you are new in germany most people will understand the struggle of learning german and will talk in english if you ask them to (just as they would if you'd be a tourist) - even at work when the language at work in germany is german (big surprise)! If you work for a german company where you have to handle a lot of their paperwork you can't expect them to translate it all just for you...there are plenty job opportunities for english speakers though...from just working at the local pub over working in the science field to managing a large international brand...children will need german in german schools but will usually pick it up quite fast - if not or you want them to have an easy transition to german: you can start by sending them to international (english speaking) schools (which there are 15 of in berlin alone! And some in every major city)...the reason why german schools don't teach your kids in english is 1) Why would they, they are german! 2) How could they...there is one teacher for 20-30 kids...you can't repeat everything in english for that one kid who doesn't understand german and you can't speak only english because german kids (although they grow up learning 3 languages in school) won't understand all of it! 3) while most germans can speak english and hold a casual conversation not every german teacher is fluent enough to teach using technical terms and such - so misunderstandings will happen! Plus learning german in germany is just so much easier because you are surrounded by it, you can use it every day and hear it all around (and you are more likely to learn from a native speaker which is very good!). In the end coming to germany without knowing any german is very possible - just as with any other country you just got to leave this "america first" kind of thinking that everything will be tailored to you (imagine me coming to the USA or canada expecting everone to speak german so I understand or expecting paperwork to be german)! If you do some planning before coming here it is very possible to make use of special offers (schools and jobs) for english speakers and not have to speak german in the beginning! That said, if you come here for a longer time I think most germans expect you to learn their language at one point...and if you do come over here and want to work for a german company it is needless to say you can't "emily in paris" this shit and learn german on the flight here and then expect everyone to speak english so you can understand
I guess the FreiKörperKultur here in Germany is pretty important for the kultur I guess, if you keep in mind that even the DDR dictatorship couldn't stop this

Absolutely! And yes North America is sooo massive it’s just hard to get around and really explore!

Aghhhhh I’m with you!! I miss it every. Single. Day. 🥺🥺
Thanks for reminding us how thankful we can be! I hope flea markets open soon!

super interessante Story. Man sieht viele Dinge, die für einen hier eigentlich selbstverständlich sind. Daumen hoch!
Outstanding video, and as a fellow North American who has lived in Germany, I agree with all your points 100%!
Flea markets? You got Thrift stores, I love them so much and wish we had that.
We’ve got some good thrift stores here in Düsseldorf too 🙃 not as many as in Canada though!
Thank You ! Love your video!
Next year com join us in Straubing (Bavaria) for the gäubodenvolksfest! Just like the "wiesn" but less touristy 🤣🍻

Tolles Video! :)
Danke ☺️
One reason they "don't market the shit out of the products" is that there are some rules of mandatory labelling, covering visibility etc in EU, so you can see info in an easy standardised way. And sometimes country rules go even beyond that.
In the Saunas I know, you HAVE to use a towel to sit or lie on. You cannot sit on the bare wood.
Haha yes! Exactly!
except for a hot steam room where you sit on stone -- 100% humidity - no towel.
I remember watching American series with people eating ice cream in front of their TV and I was finding it weird indeed. Not that it doesn't happen at all, but here in Europe it's indeed an outdoors activity you do with friends on a nice day.

Oh and I forgot, your German at the end and your accent (is this the right spelling?) is perfect!

How can folks make it work financially to come to germany and learn the language for a year and then go to school?
European countries are deperately looking for foreigners. Most of these countries have special programs to support people willing to move to their country. Some will not only give you assistance in learning the language, find a home and a job, and bureaucratic stuff; they will even pay you money or will grant you things for less or even free that other (local) people have to pay for.
If you ever thougth about moving to Europe, it might be the best time now to do so.

Maybe because the official language is German? I don't know, it is crazy that in germany people speaks german, so weird.
I guess the FreiKörperKultur here in Germany is pretty important for the kultur I guess, if you keep in mind that even the DDR dictatorship couldn't stop this
