During Bach's lifetime the general taste was shifting toward the galant style. Near the end, with the Art of Fugue, Canonic Variations, etc., his music had become anachronistic (the 1st edition of the AoF sold only 30 copies). In addition to BWV 22 Bach submitted BWV 23, Du wahrer Gott und Davids Sohn, which is one of his greatest cantatas (and decidedly stylistically old-fashioned).
J S Bach is the pinnacle of european music in all its glory, J S Bach has no equal.

Simplemente maravilloso. Gracias.
The Bass has a superb voice. I can see Bach preferring someone with this full, round sound.

bach's presentation cantata to the authorities? how cld they chose otherwise? did they know what they were hearing?
During Bach's lifetime the general taste was shifting toward the galant style. Near the end, with the Art of Fugue, Canonic Variations, etc., his music had become anachronistic (the 1st edition of the AoF sold only 30 copies). In addition to BWV 22 Bach submitted BWV 23, Du wahrer Gott und Davids Sohn, which is one of his greatest cantatas (and decidedly stylistically old-fashioned).
where wld u have been among the 12?
'Jesus nahm zu sich die Zwölfe' .
Maybe, but according to Matthew 26:56, they all fled like mad, when Jesus was arrested.....
I think I would have been off to the side in a tavern drinking
Drowning your sorrow at not having been invited, I would imagine.
I'll join you . I'll have a root beer.
Hrmm, curious. Why was the cantata introduced by the other bass?
That is a tenor.
ich bin der kreuziger gerne tragen
