The good news is that it is absolutely possible to have very good friendships with people you were once interested in (have done that five times successfully in my life). It just takes some initial time and space. Later on, just seeing them move forward with others and also in that passage of time having their behavior remain consistent and reinforce naturally that they are not pursuing you beyond a friendship, is all it takes for it to reset your beliefs around them. I would just warn you to watch out for and evade anyone in their position who -- down the road -- may temporarily behave like they are considering pursuing you without clear commitment, a grand gesture, and a massive change in their behavior. You would be surprised how easy it is for some people to lean into friends who "used to be interested in them" in between looking for their next serious partner. He doesn't sound like a person who blurs those lines, but you never really know before it happens. Just keep clear boundaries for yourself, regardless of how flattering someone's interest might seem in the short-term, and own your own decisions that align with you best.

I would love for you to do a series of just throwing yourself into random activities and seeing who you meet. Like joining a running club one week, going on a group hike the next, etc. I feel like when you open yourself up to just meeting random people in a non dating environment theres no pressure from either your end or theirs to perform.
