Great points. I especially believe in wearing your natural hair. When I first went natural I remember Chime advising the same thing. I forced myself to continually wear my natural hair. I wore it 90 to 95% of the time. It made me learn my hair and appreciate it’s uniqueness. Now I’m tail bone length and even though it’s long I’m not overwhelmed. I’ve learned how to care for it at every length.
Coincidence I found this vid. Wore my hair out for the first time since I was 14. No twists, no puff just my 4c hair free. Was very nervous and insecure the whole day but it must get easier- my curl pattern is nothing to be ashamed of
Indigenous stands, you are so correct! ❤️⭐️ Wigs are not recommended if your focus is on embracing the hair texture that God has given you. In my opinion, headwraps are the perfect substitute since it enhances you facial features and natural beauty. Wigs are okay if you are wearing them for work-related reasons, maintaining employment, etc. Especially since their are still people out there who do not favor our hair texture at all. But leave the hair extensions, and weaves alone. You will be wearing someone else hair and will be producing bad energy. 😊 I will be joining you on Facebook! Thanks for sharing! 🌺
This is so needed. I love my sisters so much and I know that Black women have been through a lot, especially when it concerns our hair and physical image. There are days that I go out and look around and EVERY single Black woman in my sight has on a wig or extensions. That speaks volumes. But, I believe that with more positive voices like yours change is happening. Thank you🌻
I used to sculpt my edges with a brush when I was relaxed, but never used edge control or anything. They would lay somewhat if I had a fresh, fresh perm, and I'd be like, look at me. But a week later, yeah, no, texture would creep in and that wouldn't work anymore. Now that I'm natural, my edges beady bead and curl up, do what they wanna do, and I don't mind. They do not lay and I do not try to make them. I've got two tiny curls on my side burns like a Jewish man's sidelocks. My husband teases me and says they look like the biggest naps ever, which used to make me a little insecure, but I kinda love my little curly cues.
I have Cantu edge control and I would use it when I had my extension twists in. But there is no need for that since I have my hair stretched 99.5% of the time. It never worked on freshly washed hair anyway.
Or any man's sideburns! Tell your husband that drag queens own these modern beauty trends that women follow denoted by their language i.e. "beat face" "laid edges" "slay" and by the way the words "sip/spill tea" "hunty" and the one I hate the most "yassssss" with all that hissing like a snake! There are so many more words, but so much more copycat behavior by real women to look like dudes with makeup. Stand strong as a woman born rightwise.
@@twitterblackdove this comment is really transphobic. Try to be kind and talk us up without putting others down. Drag queens, men, trans women, etc. We can respect ourselves and others at the same time 💛
I really appreciate your videos. I feel that you bring a new perspective that's very refreshing. And girl, edge control doesn't work for my edges. They curl right back up even if I band a scarf around them overnight. I had sisterlocks for 6 years, took them out, wore my hair out for 2 years, did the texlax thing for a year, permed it for one year, and now I'm back to square one. I've cut off most of my relaxed ends, but I feel my face is too chubby to wear my hair as is (currently using a wig). But I keep my hair twisted and oil+moisturized when it starts to get dry. Through all that I have soooo many products and I want to get down to using just oils, infused waters (aloe juice or fenugreek water), and flaxseed gel. Maybe a butter for my ends during the winter months. The way you treat haircare is straightforward and simple which I really appreciate 💕 thank you for your energy! (And sorry for my novel lol)
I love NOVELS!!!! lol girl your hair been around the block lol but all that matters is that your finding what works for you! You can def get down to using only those things just gotta detox and purge your hair lol it will get use to it if you keep doing it
How can i detox and purge my hair? I will really like to get on a simple regimen where i dont have to shampoo my hair every wk or 2. I tried your regimen but my hair didnt behave at all so i went right back to buying all those products and shampooing.
@@dedyfrench8317 it takes a while to detox your hair , your hair will NOT like it for a while but it will get use to it. just start by replacing one product with something more natural, at the same time if your hair is thriving with what your using stick to it, if its not then you know u need a change
It's a thin line between hiding your hair and keeping it protected. If you are at home not doing anything...tuck those ends. I can't stress that enough
Keep a hair journal and document products used, how your hair reacts and your feelings regarding your hair. . Use minimal products that are as natural as possible. .no extensions . Wear your natural hair. Wear low manipulation styles:Twists, braids, Headwear, buns etc +++embrace your hair fully.
I refuse to wear weave and wigs to grow out my hair. Glad I came across your channel. My hair is a foot long and people around me are amazed it’s that long. But I know deep down it’s yet to reach it’s fullest potential. I’m definitely trying your methods.
Thank you for the challenge. I am working on getting a thick crown and overall thickness. I have thinning and balding spot for over ten years, finally now, my hair is growing back and I want it to be completely filled in.
You are not alone in how you feel about your edges. I felt the same exact way you feel about your edges. I have noticed many naturals with tight coils possess looser edges and can lay them nicely. So, I did what I knew NOT to do and that was to compare. That's when I decided, just like yourself, to wear my edges more without laying and slaying them. Doing this did help me to stop feeling insecure about my edges. I surprised myself when I finally did embrace them. 😄😄😄😄
I've decided to be a part of your challenge. I don't use my Facebook and Instagram but I am going to keep my hair out and natural. I will no longer be covering my thick, super kinky hair. I've been wearing my two strand twists for the last 2 weeks and I love that I can touch my hair during the day and be able to tell if I need to moisturize it. Thank you for the continued inspiration!
I really love the purpose of this challenge! So many of us want our hair to thrive but really haven't examined our techniques and practices. I will go wigless and try to use all natural products. It's really cool to see a challenge that at its base is about empowerment. Thank you love!!! ❤
I'm insecure about my short hair, I've never had short hair before and I'm no good at styling natural hair, whenever I do it doesn't look right to me. But I'm gonna keep at it and try to grow my hair back to waist length in it's natural state. It's been 13 months and I now have 7 inches of hair☺️, so thanks for your inspiring video.
Shrinkage is a insecurity of mine... I look at how others wear there natural curls and envy those that still have a nice length. I gotta do more protective styles to get my hair to retain length past my bra strap 😐. I’m in 👍🏽 I’ve been using less products on my hair and my hair seems to love ❤️ it . I been using the aloe vera juice and olive oil and castor oil. I use apple vinegar to cleanse. The only unnatural product I use is ECO styler gold.
Thank you so much for putting forth this Challenge because I have not truly embraced my hair; I love it, but do not wear it out like I should. My Son who loves women who are "natural" is always encouraging me, "Mom wear your own hair!" I do not like my length (it is short) and I always say, when it gets a little longer I will wear it out. It has grown but not as long as I would like....and I like volume (my hair is thin). Thanks for listening! 😊
Awwww ur son sounds sweet u did a great job😊😘 embrace it now because we r not promised tomorrow. Im sure the length u are now is beautiful! We all start at some point embrace ur journey
I feel you on the edges one - I never really minded mine personally, but others always making comments made it so. Every natural hair video making it a point to slick their hair to the 'gawds'. I just made it a point of recognising there is nothing wrong with our coiled edges, I find them incredibly pretty now actually haha. I think the key thing is the need to keep them healthy and moisturised, which heavy gels on fine hair doesn't help. My ongoing insecurity, however, is having fine strands. Out my hair looks like two heads, in protective styles I'm scalp city lol. Breakage is a matter of when not if. I use styles that require less parts like up-dos and a big game changer has been using whipped shea butter and shampoo bars. My hair is never stripped but always clean, and the shea allows shed hair to slip out on stretched hair, which means less tangling, matting and thus breakage. With this challenge I hope I can explore more styles and except my fineness, thanks for this!
@@125loopy I see - then you might also be high porosity! Raised cuticles causes that increased tangling. Does your hair dry very quickly after wash-day? The shampoo bar I use is from Funky Soap Shop, for normal hair - (there is a dry/damaged version but this one works well so far). I'm from the UK however. I'm guessing you're situated in the States, in which case 22nd Century Natural Woman has a range of popular shampoo bars. I've found Creme of Nature Argan Oil Shampoo to be a good back-up too.
Thank you for this video. I believe it came at just the right time for me as I had to restart my hair journey. So, hooray for synchronicities!! 😄😄 I lost a lot of hair due to severe matting (I waa neglectful with my hair) so now my hair is shorter and thinner (in the back mostly). I'm now trying to do adopt more healthier hair practices by following a more simpler hair regimen. However, I never considered the importance of embracing my hair after this setback. I'm definitely going to embark on this challenge now so I can learn to love my hair fully and treat it like the treasure it is.
Great video! Beautiful hair from a beautiful spirit. Do you have any tips on dealing with breakage on awkward length hair? Shorter hairstyle suggestions? My crown seems to be 4c low porosity and super dry/frizzy while my sides are 4b super healthy high porosity. I'm thinking that where the best sebum coverage is but idk. Any tips on balancing for healthy strands?
it seems like you have 2 textures and what your putting on all your hair may not b working you may need to use 2 different things on each texture. your hair in the crown area is having trouble bringing in moisture so u may need to use a lighter faster absorbing product in the area and seal in that moisture with a butter
My hair is the same. "4c" at the top "4b" in the front and sides and "4a" in the back... If I were to hair type 🤷🏾♀️ only difference is that my hair is high porosity. Frustrating isn't it?
@@IndigenousStrandz11 thank you so much that makes sense. I've been trying to find something that works for all my hair but I need to start giving it what it needs. Equity the priority equality in this case 😉
@@brittannee7974 it isss! Ima embrace it tho and keep learning. It's probably the dry winter months I do need to seal better and leave it alone in twists. We gon be alright tho...especially with vids like these 🙂
I kind of started my challenge back in April/May when I vowed to stop coloring my hair and covering up my sparkle which is what I call my gray strands. I was embarrassed by them, because I thought it made me look old, but it actually doesn’t and most people don’t even notice them and my natural hair color is jet black. Also because I have a round baby face and big eyes people think I’m much younger than I am and the natural hair doesn’t help. I watched a lot of naturals here on RUclips start embrace their gray strands at all different ages and it encouraged me to do the same, now I couldn’t care less. I also started doing rice water rinses, washing my hair less often and just rinsing some of the products out in between, and doing bentonite clay masks seasonally. I have retained so much length since May making all those changes and finally finding the right butter creams to keep my hair moisturized. I’ve never used edge control because it never lasts for my hair anyway and I like for my edges to look natural because when I try to lay them down they look too straight and I feel that they don’t match the curls growing from them so I just let Mufasa be free and do her thing after I three stand twist out and I trim as needed. I want to continue to challenge myself to keep to this regimen and see how much length I get after a year. I don’t wear weave or wigs anyway because my hair is too thick and hot for all that. I will do box braids once year, but I can stop doing that in this challenge as well. Sorry for the novella 🤪. Lol The hair journal I’ll have work at because I’m already doing one for life and fitness goals. Thank you for sharing 💚!
Jbutterfly15 I am the same way with my grey hair strands. I stopped dying hair several months ago. My grey hairs are prominent along the front of my hair line and they really stand out. Recently, I found out that we can reverse our greying hair strand by taking blackstrap molasses daily. It takes about 3 months to start see results and up to a year to for full reversal for those of us with salt and pepper hair strands. A little longer if your hair is predominantly grey. I did a video on it. Also, their are herbs (other than henna) naturally dyes the hair a dark color (black), thickens the hair over time and improves scalp health. I will be doing a video on it. Plus I will share a recipe on how to create it soon.
@@TwistsandTurbans Indigo is an herb that can naturally turn you hair jet black. It's a two step process though you have to use henna first, then indigo so that it can attach to the henna. It's all natural and it helps thicken your hair as well.
Twists and Turbans I will check out your videos to get more information, mine is really in the top of my hair and very sporadic throughout, it’s actually not that bad as I was feeling because people really don’t even notice them, they’re so hidden. However I would like to learn more about the blackstrap molasses. I used to use henna years ago and my grew and was very healthy from it. I lived in Detroit, Michigan at that time which is where I’m from and an Arabic friend of mine used to get it for as she used it on her hair as well and we had similar hair texture and thickness as well as really dark black hair. We shared a lot of natural tips, she was very helpful in teaching me natural ways to color my hair from her culture. Since I’ve been in Rhode Island I can’t seem to find any really good henna that even comes close to that, that I could get in Detroit. I love henna.
Yes, indigo and henna together dye the hair black. I've used henna in my hair for over 7 years. I've always been a huge fan of henna. The only issue I had with henna is the application process takes time especially if one plans on using indigo along with henna. Overuse or improper use, of henna can leave the hair feeling very dry. Root touch-ups every 3 months. The strengthening properties last 6 months to 10 months. Furthermore, all henna is not created equal. The quality of henna varies. Several months ago, I decided to simplify my life by minimizing products I use in my hair. This includes hair maintenance and styling. There are other natural options other than henna that can strengthen, moisturize and tone down grey hair strands. We just need to explore them.
I've been a huge fan of henna also. I've colored my hair with henna for over 7 years! But with my grey hair strands beginning to really stand out. I realized in the past, I was spending a lot of time coloring and styling my hair. I've been seeking ways in which I can simplify my life and how I maintain my hair.
Love the video..love the vibes. I have started to let my edges be and only use my flaxseed gel when I want them to lay..no insecurities with my natural hair. I will be doing headwraps this year. Love you Gurl..love you guys!! God's Blessings & Peace.
My insecurity about my hair is that it’s graying. Oh I also started using aloe vera juice, water and acv combo; one bottle with acv the other no acv. My hair is softer. As I grow out my TWA do you have any suggestions for when it gets to that awkward growth phase? Thank you 🙏🏾 and many blessings to you and your family
Funny i've been talking alot about wanting to embrace my natural hair at work. I mainly keep it cornrowed under wigs. The problem i found was as my strands are fine my hair gets messy very quicky and i would constantly be re-twisting, dealing with alot of two strand knots which wasn't then a low manipulation stlye. Even though my hair strands are fine they do interlock alot especially as soon as water hits it. Looking forward to implementing your regime and seeing how my hair reacts. Thank you.
My insecurity is that I didnt continue taking good care of it the past 5 yrs despite being an advocate for healthy hair care. I'm going to start this challenge today and see where it takes me by the end of the year. Thanks for posting this!
This is so needed for us! Thank you for sharing! I have a silicone brush just like yours but it's for basting! Ha! Thanks for the tip of using less water and or aloe vera juice. I love the scent of Rose as well!
Currently overcoming the short length of my hair by patiently waiting for it to grow, wearing it in two pigtails (even though that feels childish), and recently I’ve been wearing head wraps with satin on inside and two of my short braids in front.
Wow I just stumbled across this and your the 1st natural that are caring about hair and not about peuduct and curls and staff thanks for this do not stop from South Africa
I love this video. Thank you for this. It is important for us to truly embrace our natural hair. We can be natural and still be beautiful. We don't need all the add ons that some of us think we need. I am teaching my lil cousin to love her hair. Taking care of our hair is way easier than we think but some give up way too easily and want instant gratification. People ask me all the time about my hair care routine and I say the same thing over and over again because I barely change it. Keep it simple and your hair will thank you. This video is a great help to people. Stay blessed.💚 #Tribe
I love watching your videos..you have inspired me to keep my hair in twists. I love how long your hair is and how you take the time to care for it. Please keep us in this journey with many more videos. I love to watch you untwisting and retwisting your hair. I get confused with my hair because I have about 3 or 4 different textures/curl pattern. But I have learned to just accept it as it is. My edges on the left is thinning so I am working on that. I have really sensitive scalp which gets irritated very quickly. So i have to cleanse weekly. Other than that I love my hair and embracing it after years and yeas of perm. I am 2 yrs 4mths natural. No intention to go back to perm.
This is the best challenge ever some challenges out there are like rub your nails every night, massage your scalp for 10 minutes every day like what. It’s about learning to know your hair because every body’s hair is different even if you have the same texture. God made every individual and I feel like he intricately designed each one of us to be unique and the Bible says that God knows the number of the hair that is on very each one of our heads so yeah. That’s what the focus should be about :)
Just a fresh inspiration. I’ll Definitely going over to IG and follow you. Loving everything you said, especially the part we as well as our Hair is unique in its own rites. I don’t have a problem with not wearing hair wigs but one My guilty pleasure is blue magic coconut oil hair grease ❤️😉 other then that im good.. Now As I type and watching your video I see I missed the challenge 😂 🤦🏽♀️ oh well.. it was good to watch your video comment and I’ve been a subscriber see ya on IG 😉👍🏾
It's funny that you said that about embracing your hair...cause I was just thinking... Ugh! I need to cover this...but then I said no I am going to wear my own hair. This I see is a struggle for me...I've come to recognize.
I love my hair but I have some breakage in the front and it doesn't seem to be growing. So if I put my hair in a bun I always add a headband to lay down the short pieces
See my plan was to follow your regimen and wear twists but my hair is damn near ear length with shrinkage and I look like a child. Now i just got a new job within the government and I dont want to look like miss Ceelie every day at work. My twists aren't thick and juicy. I was planning to get a natural looking wig to wear for a while while I adjust to this career change. And wear twists under the wig. Idk what to do now. lol
The ONLY thing that I don't like about my hair is that I have 2 COMPLETELY different textures and that makes it difficult to keep twists in (whether with extensions or not). That part of my hair, the lower fourth, cannot keep twists in for nothing. Once I twist them up for a protective style with my natural hair, they stay for maybe 10 minutes and then they come loose. That's the same with extensions; they don't stay for long (unless I get them professionally done, which I'm too cheap to do). That part does, however, retain moisture much better than the majority of my hair. And when that part is moisturized and sealed, you can definitely see a difference in texture. I'm a majority 4c but the lower quarter of my hair is a SOLID 3b/3c.
My biggest insecurity with my hair at this point in my journey is that I have 3a-4c throughout my head and people will tell me that if only all my hair was 3a how much better it'd look because a small part of me still believes that sometimes. So I tuck it away all the time so the texture difference isn't as noticable. It works out because it helps me retain length in the protective style but I do want to be able to face that ignorance head on someday.
Don't have any insecurities about my hair, but i do sometimes have to deal with lack of luster. Been natural for almost 4 years( first 3 years without product, minimum manipulation and no weaves or wigs..lol just walked around with water filled spray bottle, not give a darn... actually quit my job to go on my hair and emotional healing journey. Thank God for my husband) just recently started using a few curl enhancing and styling products. Never felt the need for edge control (does not make sense to me, besides om to darn ol for baby hair..lol) I'm in love with my curls and can't keep my hands away from my hair. My husband and i lounge around scrunching and twirling my curls every night. I think this challenge is excellent and exactly the encouragement everyone needs. Oh i did initially feel that i wasn't as attractive without permed straight hair. However, i like to meet my fears and challenges head on which led me in the direction of not using any product and not styling for the first 3 years after going natural.
Funny you made this a challenge, because I actually started doing this already. I've been wearing scarves/head wraps since December 2018. I planned on stopping after February. It'll be kind of hard keeping a journal, because I'm not much of a writer, but I'll give it a try.
My insecurities with my hair is my edges too! At one time I was using the edge control gel but it wasn’t working as much as I wanted and I didn’t like the feel of it afterwards so now I just let the oil control them it’s much better now and not so poofy😂 I oil my hair and wrap it with my scarf and I can see a big difference from using the edge control gel
Its funny how nobody puts it out in the air about edge insecurities!! I am glad im not the only one thats not afraid to admit that! lol Thank you for sharing that!!!
Awesome! I'm so ready to begin! My insecurity about hair is that I have thin strands and medium to low density. The struggle between wanting thicker hair and defined curls use to drive me crazy! It took me a while to embrace the shrinkage but i had to make a choice. I left the idea of curl definition behind and now I'm seeing beautiful texture and volume! This challenge is going to bring me the big hair of my dreams!
Count me in! Since your first couple videos I started to make the shift towards what we would do in this challenge except the journaling. I think that will be the final big step to help me narrow down what is working and what is not. Thanks for the push! Honestly right now I don't think I have a major insecurity with my hair as it is right now. In the past it was when I transitioned. I didn't feel sexy with my big chop those first couple of months. Nowadays, If I am having a dry spell or didn't get the chance to do all the moisture locking steps, I get self conscious if people are up to close or want to touch my hair, since I think it will feel too dry.
I am honestly really trying to embrace my natural hair but it’s really hard for me to wear it out because I hate the length and my edges are falling out 😢
For me I hide my hair for work related reasons.I love my hair and the texture I have 4c hair. I do wear a wig to work because I dont have to continue to manipulate my hair. When it time for my hair to be out I will wear it out twists, afro, etc. My texture is just very hard to keep up with a busy schedule like mine. The problem is when you are ashamed to wear your hair out or worried what people may think. I literally don't worry about it at all.
I'm pretty much doing a modified version of your regimen in that I'm using natural oils and minimal products, but I've opted to use ph-balanced shampoo instead apple cider vinegar and aloe. I also stretched my hair without heat before twisting. Week one has been pretty good so far. Twists very soft, shiny and tangle free. I've received compliments on my hair and Ive just been wearing my twists in a bun! I'm also not doing baby hair. My scarf at night kind of lays them down, especially when I apply castor oil blend for my scalp massage. I don't really have short hairs around my nape or edges though.
Great vid, as always. Great idea about the journal. I actually started mine in September 2018, when I found your channel. I will also be doing the challenge with the tribe as well. Now, on to fab to join y’all.
This thought of embracing my natural hair came to me years ago. When I was looking at other women who was not black having long hair and not having to tuck it away because it was to big. I do believe not being abled embrace our natural hair has been the key to the set backs on getting it to extreme lengths.
Thank you for all that you share! I feel that I've embraced my hair in all its uniqueness, my current struggle is keeping it moisturized. I started using your method of only natural products, ACV, aloe spray, flax gel, and oil in December. I still struggle with maintaining moisture and haven't figured out why yet. I think castor oil is too heavy for my hair because it is not very porous. Looking forward to everyones progress! Peace
I am using braids extension. I have them since dec 15. I have been trying to grow it for 6 and half years. and girl, I have hand and hair syndrome that what stop me in armpit for years now. I decided to not playing with them and used minimal products to see if it will work to grow them . They grow but break all the time. They are so fragile.
My insecurity I have abt my hair is the length it's barely reaching my shoulders and I hate wearing it in its natural state bc it shrinks up so much and it looks so short. I feel like I look like a man.
I had locs and combed them out a year ago. My length is great, but I have one small section in the middle that is short. And I feel like my edges are thin 😩
DRY I LOVE my hair but I hate it being dry, every since the beginning, it's like a product will work for a while then my hairs like "Ok I'm done with that" lol. I have 4c High Porosity Medium density. And do I really have to LOC or LCO?
Girl your hair is amazing love it. I have trouble achieving fuller twists on my head yet my hair looks full on the head. Any tips I will be greatful thanks
I love everything about my natural hair. I think I look so much better with natural hair than I ever did with my hair relaxed (would you believe an Asian boy told me that in high school before my hair was natural and I didn’t believe him then). Right, so I love everything EXCEPT that it is sensitive to stress. It fell out in clumps in college from stress (that was originally why I went natural) and now about half the crown has broken off from anemia after back-to-back pregnancies. I wish my hair was more resilient. But I also know that my hair is the first to take the fall for the rest of me when I’m not taking care of myself. My hair has been really good several times, so I know i can get it back. But sometimes it’s tough when I feel like my hair is thin and stringy instead of fluffy and glorious.
I think most women would love their hair if they knew how to take care of it. Some do know how to take care of it but they don’t care they still will Throw a wig on and I can’t talk I do it. I’m not saying because my hair is curly that it’s beautiful but since taking care of my hair it’s never been this curly. When I start wearing my wash and goes I already know I will get questions of it being real. But I’m proud of myself for just wearing my own hair.
My insecurities is my shrinkage, if a lot of times it exhausting or annoying to have to wear it in bands in because I feel it could make me look a little immature at time. But If I don’t band or thread then it will shrink to the point where it l is VERY short.
Shrinkage is something! Lol funny because now when i wear twistouts i want it shrink more! Lol but stretching it out helps with less tangles, but love your hair either way because shrinkage was given to us for a reason😊
I want to try this challenge, but I’m on vacation and have synthetic twist in my hair. As soon as I get back these bad boys are coming out. I’m still moisturizing meanwhile of course. Since I’m not on Facebook I was wondering would you be also posting tips for hair styles on Instagram? My hair does not maintain a twist out. Come afternoon, my attempt at a twist out turns into one big puff. I need to know what I’m doing wrong. Is it not enough natural products or what? I need tips please and thank you so much ☺️
This is a great idea for a challenge! This will be empowering if you can get through the month. I'm insecure about my inability to create great styles (without a comb) and also about my edges since some of the areas are sparse due to wearing extensions back in the day.
HEY GURL HEY!!!!! uugggh yes us finger detanglers have that issue and i hate when my mom says whens the last time u combed out your hair??? lol at the same time i want to do different styles that require combing it out but im not about to sacrifice my health because u and i both know combs and certians texture not mix lol
I really like your videos and I want to admit to my insecurities about my natural hair. Since I wore relax hair up in a high ponytail for so long, I have a huge bald spot in my crown. It's about 3 inches by 3 inches around. It's really embarrassing, so I find it hard to hide. I've had this issue for over 10 years now and I've been natural for about 3 years now. I've seen one Dermatologist in the past and will see another one this year. So far their is nothing that has helped my situation.
I am going through the same thing! I have been using stimulating essential oils like peppermint and add to my shampoo. I also use rosemary oil, which promotes hair growth. I have been massaging my scalp and doing hot oil treatments and deep conditioning once a week. I keep my hair braided.
My insecurity has always been my forehead and hairline. I have a huge forehead and my father's weird shaped hairline. But I've learned to embrace it. But oddly enough, one of the reasons I don't wear head wraps is because of this insecurity. I don't mind wearing my hair "slicked back" in a puff or bun. But wearing a head wrap makes me a little insecure because my edges and forehead don't look right peeking through the wrap...if that makes sense
My insecurity with my real hair is that I was always told that I'm older when I wear my natural hair...and that I look younger when I wear a wig or a weave. I don't know if my real hair really pairs with my face well in a natural state.... It sounds horrible, but it's my main insecurity. Also another one is that since I have a stronger face, I feel that with my natural hair I look mannish hence why I don't want to wear my real hair.....but when I wear weaves I have a softer looking face. I don't know. Lol.
When I wear braids my face looks very "soft" but bigger, and when i wear my natural hair it looks smaller hahaha, embrace your natural hair that's why god gave you your hair. Many people out there thay want our kinky, coily, beautiful natural hair sis! Don't listen to what people tell you about it. I used go have a friend who told me all tje time i would look better with straight hair and i felt insecure with my natural hair, but i love me, my hair makes me who i am, u know? ❤️ Our hair is unique, it doesn't matter if its 4a,3c,3b, whatever, it i beautiful in its own way, because you treat it the best way you can, every hair in each head is special. I hope to help you a lil bit ❤️🤗🤗
My insecurity is a bald spot that I have in the nape of my neck. I have PCOS and a severe hormone imbalance that is literally thinning my hair. I thought it was traction alopecia but no 🙄! It's hard when I want to put my hair in a high puff or updo because you can see it😥 I'm so glad the rest of my hair is thick!!! I'm following your regimen because it makes perfect sense to me. So maybe this challenge will help me out a little bit lol
Please consider me in this challenge. I dont have FB or IG. My largest insecurity is my large five head.... lol... and plenty others. However I am looking forward to truly gaining an understanding and respect for my tresses. I dont really know them right now.... fun to start this with a group of others. Much appreciation. Xo
Thank you for sharing, I have taken your advice and started doing the aloe vera spray and my hair has been growing rapidly. I’m still in disbelief. My mom has me making her some too. The only problem I’m having is retaining moisture.
Am not even sure what hair type I have cause am from negro and the kalinago or Amerindian tribe my hair has all mixtures like parts has 4 B I think parts has large curls but fine strand and it fuzzes fine strands pops up after few days
I will be joining you on Facebook!
Thank you🌻
I sprayed aloe vera juice from Walmart you recommended on my hair everyday while it was in box braids for a month. I had very little shedding.
C Jones beady bead 😂😂
Thank you. You are soooooo right. Hiding our hair does not help us embracing it. We are unique, hair included.
Keep educating and inspiring us all with our natural hair journeys and the positive vibe you give. ❤️❤️
AWWW I appreciate that!!!
Keep a hair journal and document products used, how your hair reacts and your feelings regarding your hair.
. Use minimal products that are as natural as possible.
.no extensions . Wear your natural hair. Wear low manipulation styles:Twists, braids, Headwear, buns etc
+++embrace your hair fully.
I am trying to get to you hair length, I am almost there.
Keep going!!!!!!!!!!
Omg how😸
My insecurity used to be how thick my hair was...now I love the thickness and use rice water to make it thicker and longer😅
YASSSSS!!!!!! I bet your hair is beautiful... I can relate to thick hair lol seems like you are keeping it healthy...stay on track your doing GREAT!!!
Muslimah Afiz how do you use your rice water
@@IndigenousStrandz11 💕💕💕
I use rice water also
Same here! I used to hate my thick hair and now I also use rice water and I love it! ❤️
I refuse to wear weave and wigs to grow out my hair. Glad I came across your channel. My hair is a foot long and people around me are amazed it’s that long. But I know deep down it’s yet to reach it’s fullest potential. I’m definitely trying your methods.
Joining the challenge!!
I'm insecure about how thin my hair is. I have no volume at all in protective styles, so I"ll twist updos.
This is such a caring video. 💖
Hows your hair going now?
@@IndigenousStrandz11 Thank you for responding & your encouragement....I will embrace the journey! :-)
I'm late but my hair is exactly like yours. Thin and fine and tangles like crazy. What shampoo bar do you use?
@@125loopy I see - then you might also be high porosity! Raised cuticles causes that increased tangling. Does your hair dry very quickly after wash-day?
The shampoo bar I use is from Funky Soap Shop, for normal hair - (there is a dry/damaged version but this one works well so far). I'm from the UK however. I'm guessing you're situated in the States, in which case 22nd Century Natural Woman has a range of popular shampoo bars. I've found Creme of Nature Argan Oil Shampoo to be a good back-up too.
@@outherewildinb2874 I assumed I had low porosity hair for years but I'm realizing it must be high porosity. Thanks for the recommendation!
@@125loopy You are most welcome:)
Thank you for this video. I believe it came at just the right time for me as I had to restart my hair journey. So, hooray for synchronicities!! 😄😄
I lost a lot of hair due to severe matting (I waa neglectful with my hair) so now my hair is shorter and thinner (in the back mostly).
Can I be a part of the challenge without having Instagram and Facebook?
Of course!! ill be posting videos and post on here as well!!
@@IndigenousStrandz11 omg i wanna be in I already put my natural hair in some little braids and is now wearing head raps
Same here. I’d love to know. I’m growing out my buz cut
I just came across your page today and immediately subscribed. I love it!!!
Yes Yes Yes. Happy New Year. I’m here for it. Thank you Thank you Thank you!!
Idk what to do now. lol
MZCrayKray I’m trying to figure this out to. Like no wig. 😐 idk sis
Wig or twisted updos.
@@islandgirlforever2868 I'm used to having no wigs. Havent worn one in over a year but I need a protective style for my protective style! lol
I want to stop styling my hair everyday, so this challenge will help me
The ONLY thing that I don't like about my hair is that I have 2 COMPLETELY different textures and that makes it difficult to keep twists in (whether with extensions or not).
Yes Try!!!!!! Even writing down goals or thoughts is really good for the soul.. nobody will see it but you!
I'm in! Been wearing twists like you since June 2017 and your hair reminds me of my own. I love my hair :D
My insecurities with my hair is my edges too! At one time I was using the edge control gel but it wasn’t working as much as I wanted and I didn’t like the feel of it afterwards so now I just let the oil control them it’s much better now and not so poofy😂
I oil my hair and wrap it with my scarf and I can see a big difference from using the edge control gel
Love ,love your channel!!
Thank you!!
I am honestly really trying to embrace my natural hair but it’s really hard for me to wear it out because I hate the length and my edges are falling out 😢
I’m just now seeing this video. I’m subscribed to too many people!!
YYAYA!!!!!!!!! we bout to get it started!!!!! keeping a hair journal is life!!! im surprised nobody thought of that yet lol
This is awesome! Embracing our natural hair is really important! I should make a video of me joining the challenge. Hope your new year was great!
Great advice! I am still working on embracing my bushy edges also. It’s getting better but still not there yet.
This thought of embracing my natural hair came to me years ago. When I was looking at other women who was not black having long hair and not having to tuck it away because it was to big. I do believe not being abled embrace our natural hair has been the key to the set backs on getting it to extreme lengths.
I feel like my hair is never detangled, its one section that is super coarse and it frustrates me.
Peace
Can you make the FB group closed/private?
Sure!!! Im still trying to figure out how to work it lol i didnt have one till now lol
I'll join the challenge. It will keep me accountable for my hair care and to stay on track.
Do you ever straighten your hair? If so, please share it.
Started this challenge today. Thanks for sharing.
I think most women would love their hair if they knew how to take care of it. Some do know how to take care of it but they don’t care they still will
Throw a wig on and I can’t talk I do it.
This is right on time thanks and great blessings for the new year😊😊
I want to try this challenge, but I’m on vacation and have synthetic twist in my hair. I need tips please and thank you so much ☺️
Can you help us with some naturals products we should use!
YESSSSSSS!!!!!! i think my next video is going to be on product knowledge and what i use to use vs what i use now
Happy New Year😊 Love your hair and learn your hair -Great advice 💗
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!
My hair is thinning in the crown idk if it's my meds or my aging 53 but i would love any advice given thanks in advance.
Oh this going to be fun
I sleep on a satin case sometimes I would wrap my hair. It's fuzzy right now
I just get a toothbrush and brush my edges out so it look like I actually have thick edges. When I don't lol. I never sleek them dont tho
I love your channel❣❣❣
The back of my hair grows really slow. I will try your method. Thanks for the Information❣

Xo
What products do you use when you do a twist out?
The only things she uses are:
1. Apple cider vineger
2.Aloe vera
3. Castor oil
4. Flaxseed gel
She doesnt use any store bought product
Thank you for sharing, I have taken your advice and started doing the aloe vera spray and my hair has been growing rapidly. I’m still in disbelief. My mom has me making her some too. The only problem I’m having is retaining moisture.
what type of oils or moisturizer are you using? and shampoo /conditioner?
Please do you oil your scalp?
Somehow you give me Alicia Keys body acceptance vibes♥️♥️😘😘
