  • Lake Lagunita, also known as Lake Lag by Stanford students, is an artificial dry lake on the western side of the Stanford campus. It was created in 1870 to provide irrigation for Palo Alto Stock Farm, before the university was established. The lake is full in 2023 after the stormy winter in the San Francisco Bay Area.
The "Stone River" built by sculptor Andy Goldsworthy in 2001, is a winding wall made of 128 tons of sandstone salvaged from Stanford buildings damaged in the earthquakes of 1906 and 1989. It snakes more than 300 feet, northeast of the Cantor Center for Visual Arts next to the parking lot.
