That's true. A music journalist in a national newspaper described it as possibly the best dexys song ever. That's up for debate. Searching for the young soul rebels is still my favourite album with that fantastic brass section that blew me away in 1980. However they have made some terrific records. Total respect for Kevin Rowland from me
This I why I love Dexys. Just when you think you’ve heard it all they bring this out of the bag. The only way this gets better is when I listened to it in context with the whole album. Perfect.
This is the most balladic song I have heard from Dexys along with their enjoyable I feel fine, the last one they did. If both songs were released as singles, they might get in the top 10, with regular plugging and playing.
So Dexys post a great song up without a full clip, leave the comments open and they are largely full of praise. They then release the same song but with a clip that challenges gender roles and norms and the open comments are suddenly include a lot of negative comments? If this isn't an experiment in social attitudes i don't know what it is?🤔
@@iandouglas805 well music is a very personal thing so it may or may not grow on you? personally it's been playing through my head ever since I first heard it which is unusual for a ballad, I prefer it to Coming Home which is also an earworm but not necessarily one I wanted to get stuck with.
So Kevin has been in the dressing up box again - I don't have a problem with that and the song itself is a beauty. But his "goddess" looks very uncomfortable and in that corset she seems like just another female stereotype, leading to the question, who is really in control here? Nevertheless, you have to admire Dexys for always being challenging in their art.
I think he’s quite an interesting individual I always have I have no interest in his actual message per se That’s Kevin’s feelings and his journey Christ I’m 20 years younger than him and from the US But I love his art His approach His unabashed voice Btw Kevin The Wanderer has some super solid tracks😊
That's his best song in years. Love the man, always have done. And although the cross dressing is not my bag personally, I do chuckle at how much it upsets his old fanbase.
This song makes me sad. It’s got a “it’s ok John joe vibe” It’s a release, My submission is a great title, but it can apply to more then this particular theme. We all have childhood demons, pain, etc It’s about letting go
interesting omphale is the name of the belly button and water pump in greek. centre of the village.. anyway glad kevin has found his glad rags again. My beauty was great.
Does Kevin like to self sabotage himself ? i have been a huge fan since GENO days but not sure anyone wants to see a 70 year old bloke in lace knickers and a dodgy wig it just detracts from the music
@@50milliondownthedraintonym16 - why would this clip or anything from My Beauty confirm to anyone that KR is gay? Men and women have been cross dressing for years - some maybe gay some may not be - what you choose to wear in terms of clothing or make up isn't a good indicator of sexuality🤷♀️
@@50milliondownthedraintonym16another poster on here pointed out that this clip mirrored the ancient greek tale of Omphale and Heracles - Google it and you will see they are right - but more to the point the story is of cross dressing and gender roles in a heterosexual storyline - what you are asserting about sexuality and how people choose to dress is just lazy stereotypes and homophobia.
The most beautiful song I have heard in a long time. Video is provocative and timely. Can music transcend politics? I believe so. Thank you for this gift.
Yeah, safe to say not my favourite Dexys music video... The song is good. It's considered by many as the most beautiful song Dexys have done, for me that honour most certainly goes to 'It's OK John Joe'. Still the new album is a very good, certainly not his best though IMO.
@@SFS-KB In my opinion, the lyrics are ridiculous and the video is just bizarre. I was looking forward to the new album but not impressed with what I’ve heard so far.
@@iandouglas805 Google the story of Omphale and Heracles - it's an ancient greek tale of love, power, gender roles and cross dressing - another poster pointed out that this clip reflects that - I don't have a problem with KR dressing up but I didn't get how the corseted disciplinarian was liberating image for women but if you watch it seeing her a the Omphale role and KR as the Heracles role it makes a lot more sense.
This is what good old fashioned sexism looks like ! It has nothing at all to do with feminine empowerment but is simply about making a woman the object of male desire. Kevin I admired you so much but this is a huge embarrassing let down. Back in the 1970s TV was full of stuff like this - RUclips may even have some of it; if you are not familiar with The Benny Hill Show or even worse The Sky's the Limit. In the former show an old man chased suspender clad women in the name of humour and sadly many people enjoyed this. Fortunately public taste changed and this sort of thing slowly disappeared from TV but it didn't go away. Men just looked for new ways to degrade women and make them sex objects - usually by persuading them that it empowered them. I have no problem at all with Kevin exploring his feminine side or doing so in a video. He's done it long ago when he released an excellent covers album My Beauty. The album was not a commercial success because many people got side tracked by the sleeve. There were some poorly received live shows too. Kevin seems to think that he was some kind of prophet of the current gender fluid age and his time has come and there's maybe some truth in this. What he forgets however is that the videos and live shows for My Beauty were poorly received because of his good old fashioned sexism. Having women half your age dancing around in lingerie and suspenders was not far sighted - it was and is just old fashioned sexism. It's the same old thing we see all the time - old man, younger woman. I have no problem with relationships across generational boundaries but this is just the same old sexist stereotype. Submissive relationships are power based generally, rather than respect based. There are some good tunes on the new Dexys album and it's a shame that Kevin didn't explore how he disrespected women in the past and use some of those introspective moments that have made past Dexys albums so wonderful. Lyrically and politically this just feels dated and dodgy. The start of the video reminded me of the scene from The Silence of the Lambs where Buffalo Bill applies make up and gets ready, while his female captive screams in a subterranean dungeon. I'd guess that most Dexys fans are people of my generation, who have followed them since the start. Hopefully that means that others will find this old fashioned sexism as repellent as I do. I'm sad to post such a negative post about a long time hero but I'm so disappointed by this blatant sexism.
"Men just looked for new ways to degrade women and make them sex objects - usually by persuading them that it empowered them." The person complaining about sexism is describing women as malleable puppets who have little control of their own actions. Interesting.
What if Kevin and Freddie Mercury had combined their musical talents in a song? Both have such a great voice and a huge range of singing abilities. Would it be a hit or a miss? We’ll never know unless someone could dub their voices electronically or through AI.
Absolute legend , and a fantastic album.

So beautiful ❤️ Wearing the inside out ❤ Heartfelt genius. Thank you Kevin
thats a really beautiful song.
There are no words. Wow. This is everything ❤❤❤❤
Stunning song!......Video no!
Magnifique, sublime, fulgurante d'émotion, My submission étreint les cœurs.
All I can say is wow❤ love this song ❤ well done another awesome song ❤
We don’t have many people like Kevin left. Genius and Pioneer. Xxx
Love this! Kev’s got balls and the voice of an angel!
I think this is the best track off Dexys album The Femmine Devine. Kevin's vocals are sublime and he has never sung better in my opinion.
Haters got to hate, a man who has lived his life full, who are any of us to judge, always a genius.

Nothing needs challenging. Just get on with your life and stay out of others' business, so to say. Goes for everyone.
Challenging gender roles and social attitudes is fine by me, I just don’t rate the song.

Weird video, but really touching song
Kevin, and Dexys by proxy, don't give a rats ass what people think about them. After David Bowie, they are the true English Band.

So he’s given himself over to Lucifer/satan? Is that what this is about? That’s what the feminine divine is. Demonic. This is truly sad.
It’s almost as if it’s done to shock and get attention!

The pied Piper has definitely got his knickers in a twist. Hasn't he learnt anything from Glastonbury?
His talent doesn't require transvestism.
That is some David Lynch level awesomeness

great song, weird video, I don't like it much.
He seems to be taking the piss out of women, he is a perverted misogynist
No comment.

Awful
