      Being honest, the most I've ever shelled out for a game in my entire life was for a genuine copy of Pokemon Heartgold. I made sure it was a genuine copy and taught myself through RUclips to tell the difference between real ones and counterfeits.
      It cost me $85 and boy those are hard to get. I actually saw bidding wars where some of the genuine copies were going to cost over $100 not counting any potential shipping.

      Stetson Herrick I just did the same thing as you did a few hours ago and was fortunate enough to buy a copy of heartgold from the GameStop website for $80. I never spent that much on a single DS game but considering I missed out on my childhood playing it and seeing it go for $120 and above, wasn’t gonna take any chances

    @crystola99 4 года назад +148

    Oh man, you’ve GOTTA play 999! It’s the best story I’ve ever seen in a video game. There are a couple of spooky moments, but if it’s gore you can’t handle, the most you’ll ever really see is a couple big splats of blood on the wall. The gory detail is all shown via narration. This is all coming from someone who can’t really handle gore or anything too. The first death scene is pretty early on, if you can handle that, you can handle the rest of the game.

    • @brantm6055
      @brantm6055 4 года назад +5

      That and you can also get the Nonary Games Collection game for around $20 on Amazon.

    • @crystola99
      @crystola99 4 года назад +5

      Brant M While I really like the Nonary Games version of 999, I really think the original is better bc the end twist was ultimately pulled off a LOT better on the DS. I’m not going to tell everybody to get the DS one to experience the best version, but since she already has this version she might as well experience it this way (for everybody else, you might as well get Nonary games, it’s just much more convenient, but make sure to play in Novel Mode)
      ...also omg tama noticed me hiiiiii!! No worries if the game is too spooky for ya ofc, everybody has different tolerances for this sorta stuff. just don’t want ya to be *too* scared off

      @@crystola99 I think that I would personally always advise people to play the original version if it's physically feasible for them :p Visual novels and adventure games were always a perfect fit for the DS, but 999 was literally MADE for this console's specificities.

    • @thekiss2083
      @thekiss2083 4 года назад

      I think 999 is a lot better without voice acting, too. It feels more natural just having the characters' voices and narration in my head. Spookier that way, too

    • @Chaklun96
      @Chaklun96 4 года назад +1

      @@thekiss2083 I would probably agree but I didn't play the dubb. But I like "video games beeps" for characters talking especially in visual novels, like in Ace Attorney. It's part of the game feel imo. What I can say, is that the japanese voice-acting is good in VLR and ZTD (played it on 3DS and PS4) but I'm not a fan of the few I heard from the english dubb of ZTD :/

    Give 999 a go. It'd be a shame if it never got played. It's my favorite game.
    I can't handle horror games, but 999 isn't a horror game. It's a mystery game. And it's more like reading a book anyway. It's a visual novel after all. There is death involved but you never see the bodies, just some blood. Though the descriptions of deaths can be nasty at times.

    • @crazyandorian
      @crazyandorian 4 года назад +4

      Late I agree! It’s funnier rather than scary or spooky. There’s some unsettling concepts (children being kidnapped and experimented on etc) but nothing straight up scary

      999 has quite the dark tone that it can almost be compared to the horror genre. It actually reminds me of Spike’s other series, Danganronpa. Wouldn’t be surprised if their dark tones were related in some way.

    The DS came out at a time in my life when I was just hitting adulthood and couldn't really afford too many games. I few up with the GameBoy and GBA, but never ended up owning a DS because my Xbox sadly ate up most of my very thin gaming budget. Lot of nights filled with ramen and Chef Boyardee because of those choices. Videos like these warm my heart though, hearing you talk about them with such enthusiasm, and really make me wish I could go back and try a lot of this stuff out now. So many great Pokemon games I just totally missed out on. Maybe one day I will get the chance, but until then, at least I have channels like yours that fill the little void in my heart. If you want to play the Ace Attorney games (which I highly recommend, their stories are AWESOME), the one u hav is the second one in the series. It’s not a series for everyone, so I’d look around a bit and make sure it’s something you’re interested in first, and if u want to try it, look for the first game, just called Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney. I wouldn’t say it’s the best game in the series, but a lot of things won’t make as much sense in the next games if u don’t play them in order, and it is a good place to start for anyone who hasn’t tried the series before

      TWEWY is actually better on the DS. I have the DS version and I prefer it over the Switch version. The controls were somehow worse on the Switch and the game is just better on the DS. The battle system is much better on the DS even if you are trying to is the touch screen and control your partner using the buttons at the same time. The DS version of TWEWY also rewards you for not playing unlike Animal Crossings habit of punishing you for not playing. If you liked the Switch version I would highly recommend giving the original a try. It’s still fairly cheap to find a copy last time I checked (got mine at Walmart a couple of years ago for $20 because the Switch version was out and they still had stock from a decade ago).

    • @MidniteAndBeyond

      @@princesspikachu3915 I believe the Switch version also rewards you for the time you aren't playing the game. While I can't speak from experience since I haven't played the DS version, I had a pretty easy time controlling it. I was even using drifting joy-cons at the time. There's a re-calibrate button similar to Skyward Sword which really helped me whenever my controllers were failing on me. I'd definitely like to try the DS version at some point, as well. Any excuse to play this game again is more than ok in my book! :)

    I'm coincidentally playing through radiant historia on the 3ds right now due to a recent eshop sale. I think I'm about 75% through the game and I would highly recommend it to anyone in the mood for an rpg with a more methodical combat system.
    The 3ds remake added a third timeline (which are essentially a series of sidequests in the form of what-if scenarios, that run parallel to the main story), along with an extra dungeon for grinding exp and items. The remake also features full voice acting for most of the important characters, and there's a dramatic shift in the art style of the character's portraits (the short haired girl on the DS boxart for example is the most drastically changed). There's a GameXplain video that explains these differences in more detail if you're really torn on which version to try.

    Beautiful Video here. You're exactly 3 hours South of me as I'm just outside Tacoma, Washington! Anyway I can relate to the games filling in relationships as I've been a Loner since age 19 (after losing the love of my life) gaming took ahold of me and probably will though I don't own a Switch

    999 is an incredible game. The series is pretty dark but I wouldn't say scary. The first game, 999, is pretty light and not super scary.
    I recommend it if you want a great mystery to dive into!

    999 does have some weird/spooky parts but it is a very hard puzzle game. and stressful at times. the puzzles are the hardest I've ever seen in any video game, and its one of the few M rated DS games. They have been remade, as well as the sequels, on other consoles.

    The zero escape series (999) and Radiant Historia are some of the best game to ever be released. Though DS 999 doesn't have a flowchart which is really unfortunate.

    The DS is such a classic -- and nostalgic -- system for me. I wish I hadn't of sold mine when I was in high school. Now that I'm out of college, and I'm trying to find my own place and a more reliable job, it would be cool to be able to game on the go. I do have a PSP, but considering I never played it growing up and it's a hand me down from my cousin, it will never hold the same amount of fondness in my heart. Oh well, here's hoping I can find a cheap enough DS someday. The real challenge would be rebuilding my game collection.

    I see again a plush of that cat plush that a girl uses as a weapon in The World Ends With You! I think the plush was known as Mr. Mews? That people in the game often misunderstand that he's a cat. He also serves as the disclaimer character in the Switch release of the game, when the developers need to put forth a disclaimer of similarities of things and people between that game and real life. He's SO CUTE! ^^
