- The JLTV is a U.S. Army, U.S. Marine Corps and Special Operations Command program to partially replace the Humvee fleet with a family of more survivable vehicles having a greater payload. Early studies for The Next-Gen Badass Military Vehicle program were approved in 2006. The JLTV program incorporates lessons learned from the earlier Future Tactical Truck Systems program and other associated efforts.

The JLTV is perfect, it has MRAP level protection, can resist mines, missiles, and bombs, and small arm fire, and a suit of sensors to give US ground troops an advantage on optics, and incoming fire. Its literally perfect. Its the future and there are multiple versions designed for command and scout variants and the ability to be upgraded and have heavy armor.
Perfect zombie apocalypse vehicle
Yes but just hope that nobody shoots the engine through the fiberglass hood.
India & United States Together Developed Heavy Stratejic Stealth Bomber & High Friquency Laser Weapons
I generally agree but it does look top heavy, check out footage of the gunner for HMMWV vs this footage. The gunner sits really high and up. I think thats the price we pay for the V mine protection
🤷♂ I am also of the opinion that while this has a great suspension its too heavy to match off road. HMMWV performance. Trade offs everywhere but OMG all our vehicles are too heavy.
@@ghostmourn JLTV literally runs CIRCLES around any HMMWV, on or off road. Ask for the performance test from the Army Test & Evaluation Command to see for yourself.
Seeing this video filled me with even more pride in my work at Oshkosh Defense. Continuously working and improving these trucks for our fighters and to bring them home safely.
I was driving on ft Bragg yesterday and had one driving along beside me. Mighty Impressive to say the least.
Keep it up! OTC has changed since I first dealt with them 20+ years ago; they are much more responsive today. They know which side of the bread the butter is on....
As a 91B, thankyou! The FSR support we get on the JLTVs is 2nd to none. I had the privilege of taking the flmnet JLTV maintainers course taught by our lead FSR. I was equipped enough as a PFC afterwards to train the entirety of the maintenance team. Definitely helped with promotions.
Seen these being driven up there in Oshkosh... badass!
@@Bailey_54R what's the maintenance like? AM General boasted about their bid having interchangeable parts. Were parts unique to Oshkosh bid?
Absolutely looks like an MRAP scaled down to Hummer dimensions. Thumbs up.
Definitely not to humvee size specs. These are a bit bigger than humvees. They're built in my hometown and I've just about every military vehicle Oshkosh truck has in person
A pretty cool vehicle when considering all the constraints it went through. Good to see a beefier platform with more forward-thinking capability replace the humvee. & actually has air con
The vehicles needed more armor for mine and IED protection but... the OG humvee cost 70k, this costs 395k? The OG humvee was insanely overpriced and they have taken the price to a whole new level and beyond. 18 tons and 395 thousand dollars? JFC what a Sheesh show.
@@Thickcurves I do agree. On most fronts our defense spending is way too overblown. But you also got to understand our humvees were getting decimated in the Middle East by IEDs and RPGs. They just weren’t design to withstand all the duty they were eventually doing. But I also agree near 400k for ONE truck is absolutely ridiculous. It’s a double edged sword. As someone else pointed out, the JLTV is oriented for survivability rather than a “can roll over anything and keep on driving type of vehicle.” Once one does encounter an explosive, it’s back to the shop or possibly fubar. I understand how branches could want this vehicle to fill the hole for lighter armored vehicles, which we have to have. Hopefully unit cost will go down as production volume increases, but yeah, not everything scales. The JLTV is nearly 6x the cost of the humvee, but is it 6x as capable? Probably not. But we also don’t want to have a weak military. Maybe we should interview the crew that’s actually going to be operating it.
I will still mis the humvee it was a cow catcher man
@@Thickcurves If you know ANY company that could do it better OR cheaper, call the Pentagon.
@@Buck123four just gotta stop paying all those oshkosh engineers so much money. :P
I used to drive one of these and my favorite feature (other than air con) was the cup holders 😂
This thing is a Beast! The range of different configurations is incredible.
These will be really fun to get when they hit the government surplus auctions in the future!
Pretty badass. I look forward to building a scale model of one.
It’s a nice vehicle to drive around in but, they need to do something about the transmission whine or more like scream. You can hear it coming further away than certain heavy vehicles. It still has a long ways to go before it’s very good. The nice part is that it requires very little maintenance because it barely breaks down.
MOVEMENT of a vehicle is the largest factor when recognizing it, as are dust plumes.
Ill agree with you on the noise. There is no excuse for the amount of alternator whine inside the cab. Easy hearing damage after a short mission.
Its the supercharger
I heard from my navy friends that they break down alot
@@dannyturner7967 that’s probably the MATV they’re talking about. The JLTV is pretty sturdy. I’ve only seen a few really fucked up ones, but it’s usually operator error.
Great for the commuter that travels into Chicago, St. Luis, Houston, Atlanta, NYC, Philly, Baltimore, Oakland, LA, etc. each day.
Hell yes, I need this on 695.
Because the Benz G Wagon is far too pricey; it's made to be in Hollywood.
The Hood would JackEm new JATL once off the showroom floor.
Lol the Landcruiser FJ40 makes both Hummer & JLATV less omnipotent. Given that it's all purpose both utilitarian and post production to the public.
Look up mon300 here on YT
So cool I live a few hours from Oshkosh. Seen them on the highway down there. Made my day.
got to drive these multiple times and let me say they are amazing
How well do they handle? They look like they shake a lot. Did you ever get to floor it?
I would LOVE to drive this!! Up here in Canada we only had G Wagons during my time. Sounds and looks badass. Banks tuned to boot!!
When can we civilians buy some for ourselves
Wen they have more than 10 years in service
Make one
You understand that it will cost ? Its not a hummer.
@@SodziausPilietis i know plus there are a lot of old hummers in surplus but having something that isn't like anything else would be great too
You just did, go take one, they used your money :)
I love that Orchestrated movie type music they play in the background, it sounds epic!
I've seen a demonstration of the air ride in person. Pretty sweet trucks.
These were a fun chamge from the hummers. They have awesome off road suspension. Basicly a giant atv. Loved driving it. Sexy to looks good
My favorite version of the jltv is the switchblade 600 on the back. 6 switchblade drone that attack main battle tanks.😁
Same. You don't have to directly engage a tank and almost certainly lose, and you can theoretically remain invisible and flee after attacking.

Those munitions as well could be guided by ground troops that are on a scout or recon patrol.
Impressive Vehicle, I live in Huntsville Alabama, Thanks Sam and U.S.Military News. 👍🇺🇲
I love this MACHINE....Fantastic upGRADE from the HUMVEE.
Can't wait to get the civilian model
I’m so glad the Army cares for its 91Bs. Keeping them wheel mechanics extra busy. I like it.
Actually they aren’t allowed to work on them. They go straight to the civilian contractors
There actually pretty reliable
@@grantwallace8555 not correct…. We work on them everyday. 💯 junk
@@grantwallace8555 what? really?
@@grantwallace8555 not true we work on them everyday
Damn it's freakin beautiful, and my god the options are endless! My favorite was the one with the Rheinmetall turret on top, that thing would be so scary to go against.
Lots of information. It was great to watch
Now that’s a development and procurement program that is running perfectly, virtually no extra cost, vehicules on time, no big flaws to be found , work as required on paper… if only all US armies development and procurement programs could be the norm instead of the exception 😅😅😅
Nice to see so many of these being built. Not only for the safety of our troops, but also knowing that someday in the future, we might get access to these on the surplus market. ;)
That would be awesome but don't expect these because they are all up-armored. Only reason we can get humvees and others is because some models don't have armor.
@@Lance.West4 Very good point..
@@5thGenNativeTexan it's more probable for the SWATs, they did get those surplus afghan MRAPs that were on the news so much anyway....
@upupaepops it would be fun going through the drive-through in one though. Well never mind can't roll down the windows lol.
@@Lance.West4 lol very very true
Absolutely beautiful beasts, been seeing these beauts riding round Jacksonville/Hubert NC since 2020
Great video. Love seeing this semi new vehicle tech.
I love JLTVs so much. Slapping heavy armor upgrades on and running full sprint into electric power consumption limits with new tech packages in HMMWVs was unsustainable. Being able to sleep in a warm, airtight box in the field is underrated. Once they figure out their hydraulic suspension reliability issues we'll be set for decades. I don't feel like I'm risking death driving up or down a steep hill with a loaded trailer and the engine's power is ample.
I knew the JLTV was going to be a cool and versatile platform, but dang they're having it do things I never thought it could. Be interesting to see what else it can do in the future
not go through deep mud and snow like a HUMVEE. Try and find footage of one of these tackling terrain rougher than a Subaru can handle. Doesn't exist, because this thing is a rolling tank and would get stuck in two seconds. Usless machine we had vehicles that perform all these tasks and more already.
I love all the turret housings put on top! A 110mm artillery battery?!?! so Awesome! 😍😍
An awesome Vehicle that is. Thank you for your Service USA.
I use these everyday in the USMC and they are good when they work, 75% of the time they are broken somewhere
Why are the broken ?
My brother told me that the suspension is prone to break on these.
Thank you, finally somebody gets it. I taught the operators course which included some pretty wicked off-road conditions. Im also a mechanic that has to fix them. They are marvel of technology and handle amazingly well. Until they don't. The real problem is that they are over complicated and hard to fix. Especially by army mechanics that get the bare minimum of technical training.
@@Scatpack23 Because they are over-engineered to shit. The minute i saw that suspension, i knew this crap wouldn't work worth a damn in the field.
These vehicles are a logistical nightmare and most likely will require to be shipped to the main FOB for literally all repairs, whereas even MATV and MAXXPRO could be repaired, for the most part at a forward OP.
The US has fallen far behind in rocket development (esp medium range), but it can spend 333k on this 2 seater (or option for 4). So completely irresponsible!!
Russia/India joint venture Sarmat and BrahMos both unstoppable. And China too has far surpassed the US with medium range supersonics (that destroy air craft carriers).
I am always suprised how they still manage to be within military specs while still keep admireable aesthetics.
Lol, because some high ranking nerd isn't going to approve it unless it meets their fancy. Hence how the army ended up digital... Someone thought it looked better.
@@YourMum105 empires gotta empire

@@YourMum105 Why? Eventually we will all be involved in a large war over resources as we consume most everything on the planet. I for one would rather have the most experienced war tech and fighters around personally. Besides, we are breeding more than dying and there's always someone whose going to want a fight. Once the big countries destabilize, just you wait to see what all the gangs/cartels/smaller counties/states/countries do. Hell, we saw some of that in Seattle already.
Death is natural and so is violence.
@@oni-one574 Thats not how it works. Systems go through a rigid system that starts with a statement of need / description of the required capability / how & why current systems are lacking. For JLTV, the entire timeline took from 2005 - 2019. No SINGLE person controls the system...there are many checks & balances...and Congress provides the funding.
Love the 4 seater version with the clam shell style 'suicide doors'.
Saw a few of these on I95 a few months ago. They are freaking massive.
You should see the size of the MaxxPro Dash DXM or the Buffalo. Those are some huge MRAP’s.
I would love to take a spin in one of those around a test course of hills and ravines.
It might be better equipped but it looks so heavy, that in turns it rocks all over the place.
What an awesome improvement!
I'm loving the Countach wheel wells.
This thing costs as much as a Rolls Royce! EPIC! Yet is has far more purpose! It's got various capabilities! Here in Europe the idea of HUMVEE-like army 4x4s are rare, I know Renault Sherpa is an example!
Greetings from Belgium!
Just get a Toyota 4x4 instead.
@@markoz673bajen8 Just get a Toyota 4x4 if ya wanna be dead when bombs / IEDS / small arms fire is whizzing around.
I wonder how much the survival ability rate has gone up since production. Probably even a lot higher and better than the Humvee had. What a badass vehicle!
No. This vehicle was a waste of money. You couldn't pay me to take this thing out on mission. We were offered these to replace the rg31's and maxpros. Cause they're top heavy as fuck. And huge. We said fuck that cause the survival rate of occupants in the truck above? Gamble. The trucks I listed? Saved our assess. The matv is trash if you want it in combat. Other places? Yeah probably fine.
@@nancynobullets85 I mean, that's true, the MRAPS you mentioned are dedicated beasts for this type of stuff. But if you had to pick between the JLTV and the HMMWV, you'd pick the JLTV no?
@@arthurofalsen2110 depends on the use. I can roll ANY mrap with lite use. Yeah it can take a hit. Big ones even. I've seen buffalos, rg's, and maxpros get blown up, have their entire front ends in the air as high up as the back section would allow an upward pivot on the back wheels. Then come down and the only damage was to the axle and wheels and whatnot. But the body. Totally fine. The matv? Blown to smithereens. Smithereens I say. I promise. No less. The HMMWV has a huge parts list for specific modifications. And believe it or not? Fairly easy to upgrade on defense and engine power. You're never gonna go fast in either. But you'll be able to move your own weight with a fair amount of ease. All trucks are clidesdales in reference to power. But the HMMWV is the lightest and hardest to roll. Obviously the larger trucks grant you more space. Damn near enough to live in. But for travel use? Outdoor use? The HMMWV. For safety and travel and everything else? Rg, buffalo, Maxpro. Hell even an lmtv or fmtv will net better usage. The matv? Deathbox. But it looks cool. I would personally use the back "porch." On the buffalo as a nightly bathing space. No joke. Biggest truck with the most space and most room to add junk/internal modifications for luxury.
@@arthurofalsen2110 oh. The navy had some big ugly one. Looked like a brinks truck. Special operator use. The cougar or panther I think. Plenty of space to move around in the back. Plenty of space for junk and stuff. But it sits low and I'm not sure if it was an mrap. I'm guessing yes based on the operators using it. But we didn't have it and it seemed kinda light for our use.
drove the JLTV about year and a half ago, my unit 1st cav was the first unit with the new Sept v3 abrams and the JLTV, I think the best handling one is the 2 seat truck bed version their extremely fast and sounds like a jet engine inside
Badass! Proud to be an American!!
It’s basically the real Batmobile.
I've always wondered how is the seating in the rear? Looks a little cramped back there with full gear, but I guess it could be bigger in person.
6 ft 220 pounds...plenty of room.
@@Buck123four Nice!
@SHAK3 N Nope. I'm actually 6' 3 "" / 220 pounds...and I fit easily. More leg room than most cars. Seatback has indentation for LBE. I wouldn't wanna drive from NY to LA in it, ...but with AC & armor protection, it is much better than any HMMWV.
There’s enough room
There's actually a decent amount of room for the occupants, just nothing else. Need to chuck your packs in the back or sit with them in your lap.
Gonna need one of these if I ever drive through Detroit
I need this. Gotta show everyone at the Mall who's the BOSS.
I want the first utility variant that they showed. That would be awesome.
You can buy Iraq/Afghanistan surplus ones for cheap as they are not as new as this video is suggesting.
I remember being a new Marine going through Humvee driver school.... I was last in line to do the reverse course... Everybody had been doing it very slowly some with more success than others... Couple people hit some cones... When it was finally my turn... I got in through it in reverse and basically floored it through the course... I had gotten through it in probably 5 seconds instead of the 30-45 seconds it was taking all the other pussyfooters. Haha good times.
Instructor: you've been waiting all day to do that haven't you?
Me: Yes.
I am the Marine Corps baby driver 😂
Never hit an IED either. Everyone else in my section did. 💪 (Probably just dumb luck)
That's awsome man. I'm currently 17 years old and my driving experience is basically ripping in on dirt roads in my 1991 Ford explorer shitbox. It would be cool to be able to drive one of these things one day.
Semper Fi. The makers of the HMMWV are working to build the JLTV, hope they get it.
Some people think that speed is the all-important factor. It’s really not. Drive at a moderate pace and observe your surroundings, observation is also a skill.
Fentanyl is a dangerous drug.
In the Army, I didn't ever take a driving course for a humvee. If we had a civilian license they just issued us a humvee license. I did have to take courses for LMTV and a few other vehicles though.
Yes please ! This looks awesome
Close to $400k per unit, but the actual unit cost is probably between $100k to $120k for a light or unarmored version. The rest of the cost come from service Contract for parts, maintenance, equipment, etc.
@John Janeson hopefully when I retire these will be as easy to get as the humvee lol
I'm thinking maybe $40k in about 20 years for a clapped out one lol

@chris cappuccio nah this is military surplus my guy, basically military gives them away when the replacement comes out
I like the look of humvee more lol. But this thing is a beast. I would imagine it's gonna be really hard to replace whole fleet of humvees.
Nope, just auction them out to help with paying for the new trucks. The Humvee was in some ways unreliable, just a bullet sponge of the time.
Humvee is a glorified suv
@@Neyreyan no, I believe you have never driven one.
@@mrdato116 it was not good for most of its tasks, not suitable for a warzone but very good as a terror weapon. I mean its big, mean looking and had some military aplications but overall, it didnt execute them too well. Not even being able resist IED
@@Neyreyan because it was intended for support role. Like hauling artillery, ammo personnel behind front lines. It was never intended for urban combat, but even with armor modifications it still did fine. No country made a better light vehicle, Russian Tigr was a bad copy
If it's all electric, how does that play out when you drive over an IED? In car accidents of normal EVs, the batteries can go up in devastating flames. I'm not sure I'd want to ride in an MRAP that's got lithium in it. lol
ONE Hybrid prototype. ONE.
You do realize gas/diesel is extremely flammable.
You could turn this video into a drinking game. Everytime he says JLTV take a shot.
Afghanistan and Iraq simply taught the US that all vehicles need armor. Just putting a machine gun of an all terrain vehicle doesn't cut it in the modern battlefield. The JLTV is, in effect, an IFV where the guns are optional. It could easily replace the unloved Stryker vehicle if made on a longer chassis.
The Balkans and Mogadishu (1990s) taught the US that vehicles need armor.
that is one badass looking vehicle
Toy.
@@greybone777 what's a better vehicle for the same mission sets?
@@arthas640 JLTV is the most capable “light” vehicle the Army or USMC have ever fielded. Superior protection, superior reliability, superior performance all around. JLTV can run circles around ANY HMMWV; the original HMMWV or the current up-armored ones, in soft soil / sand or on highways. 3,500-pound payload (4-door) or a 5,100-pound payload (2-door); a JLTV trailer completes the family. (HMMWV trailers were destroyed when towed behind the JLTV…they aren’t designed to negotiate the terrain JLTV can handle.) JLTV is built for the current conflicts - AND for the future, anywhere in the world. 10Kw onboard power & 10Kw exportable power, fully NET-ready & VICTORY compliant. Transportable by C130, C17, C5, CH47, CH53, and airdrop certified.
China: you cant invade up we are to large and we have mountains...
America: We air drop our shit
new choppers new light armor America is getting ready for a fast paced hard hitting war....
That's a big reason that while i view China as a growing threat it's hard to really consider them a superpower. The US can airlift vehicles up to an M1 Abrams (around 10 tons heavier than China's MBT) to anywhere in the globe and train for things like difficult helicopter airlifts. In many conflicts since WW2 it's not unusual for the US to have men, light vehicles, and even tanks behind enemy lines before the main invasion force even meets the enemy battle lines. Meanwhile China's biggest threat is their inability to push past their own borders, they'd need a full scale war just to force their way past the first island chain, parts of which are so close to China's coast you can still see their shores from those islands. It's like if the biggest hurdle the US faced was making it from San Francisco past Alcatraz or making it out of the Puget Sound with the fleet intact.
Just very awesome!
i was in the Marine unit that was sent to Fort Stewart to test these out for the military in late 2014
18,000+ made. I’m surprised Osh made so many already. The funniest part when this video started, my immediate thought was…. “How many JLTVS will Ukraine be demanding?”
Thet are getting one 100 just a little part, lol I'm amazed how the U.S.A is able to mas-produce military stuff 💪🏻🔥😎🇺🇸
Not sure, but Ukraine actually makes some pretty good light armored vehicles on its own such as the BTR4
@@mrvwbug4423 Agreed. But they aren’t building anything. But demanding JLTVs would be the next thing since HUMVEEs have already been sent.

Didn’t we leave some Humvees over in Iraq, can we get those back?
@@SnifferSock we call that Testing... so you can lose 1000units but this will make that product greater.
They already are kind of, they sent over some MRAP's and Humvees. Cutting edge vehicles make less sense to send over there though, not only are they untested but Ukraine needs reliable tech and Ukrainians have been training with Soviet made equipment and Humvees more than JLTVs or MRAPs. Ukraine also has a desire for light weight vehicles due to terrible roads and muddy/swampy ground so vehicles like the Humvee work better, the JLTV is roughly 3 times the weight of a Humvee. The fact there's also more than 10x as many Humvees and the fact that even new they're a fraction of the price (used they're either free as aid or dirt cheap) makes them far more available, far easier to scale up, and far easier to replace. The JLTV is superior but Ukraine, much like their Soviet ancestors, places more priorirty on numbers and reliability than cutting edge tech and precision engineering; a bunch of reliable, cheap, rugged, proven vehicles will be more desirable than a much smaller number of unproven, untested ones.
What an absolute beast! Yes please!

Wow. I want one. I guess the fuel efficiency is pretty loooow. Awesome vehicle!
Built this on what we learned in oif and oef. Very effective.
...and what we FORGOT from Vietnam, Korea, WW2, etc.
Looks like short corse racing truck r&d went into these. Those are some amaizing trucks. First time i saw them on tv i thought they were rc trucks.
Hmm. Ideas on how to stop it on the battlefield? Blind the drivers view, use molotov on the turret, if occupants exit from the fire they are immediate targets. It's an expensive tank on wheels. Looks like a fuel hog. Provides good IED protection. Definitely a good security, patrol and VIP escort vehicle.
This is going to be my next campervan!

Sounds absolutely perfect, however we won't know how just how perfect they are until they have been tested and used as much as humvees have.
*Pros: This is a JOY to drive offroad!!* Lots more options too
Cons: Kinda slow when doing through water & not as spacey for troops / gear. They need more room imho 😢
