Wow - one of the last episodes before the Euro, where Ireland had the highest-value money tree in the world. Gay Byrne was just brilliant, your stereotypical Irishman - in a good way: he certainly had the accent and always a nice word to say about everyone. Loved the Irish version: more of the same please! :)
Speaking from America (home of the late great Regis Philbin), Gay Byrne was one of my favorite international hosts of WWTBAM?, along with Chris Tarrant and Eddie McGuire.
Gay Byrne always had a fine way of presenting his radio show, his telly programme and WWTBAM to all of Ireland.
He is forever missed.

Was the Irish punt worth more £ to £ with sterling at the time?
@@occono3543 Yep, I think it was 1 IR£ to 1,16 GBP or something
This isn't enough.... I NEED MORE!

Where is the new episode of who wants to be a millionaire?
The audience pulled a Charles Ingram to get them the Isaac Butt question there.
