That was something that many never seemed to realize about Dale Earnhardt- he was a huge supporter of short track racing and participated whenever he was able to. Later that summer he came (along with several other NASCAR drivers including Morgan Shephard, Ken Schrader, and some others) came to Lee USA speedway in NH to run the “top dog invitational@“ Dale eventually won it and always called the trophy he received one of his most prized- because it wasn’t a big NASCAR race full of hoopla and stuff… it was just him and some local boys having fun.
This was my first asphalt stock car race. I was 12. I still have Dick Trickles autograph and met all the drivers in the pits. I'll never forget this 🏁

It's a tragedy that this track is now closed after millions were put into completely rebuilding it.
