- Nintendo's Mario vs. Donkey Kong remake is right around the corner! To celebrate, we have a brand new collection of Mario renders that gives him more detail and personality. With this being Mario's new look moving forward, is it a step in the right direction? Should Nintendo go back to the simpler style of the 2000s and 2010s?

My videos are produced with the editor Camtasia Studio 2023 and I use a Blue Yeti Microphone to record. All scripts are written by me. Any footage used is from various TV shows, movies, and games to illustrate my personal thoughts on these pieces of media. The amount of detail in the redisign is insane. I love it, it reall makes Mario feel more real, and I hope Nintendo keeps using it.

0:50 this image here actually looks like an upgrade to a previous Mario image I've seen before. Personally, I'm OK with the old design, but I am happy to see my childhood hero get a visual 'attention-to-detail' look. Also 2:00 this part made me laugh.

No matter the era I'll always love Mario's iconic look! It's one of those character designs that's easy to become better and better but near impossible to mess up and this proves it!

I like it. In the end he asks if you prefer hyper realism, plastic-y or something in between, but I would honestly say this is a good in between. Thinking back to the slightly uncanny Odyssey and Luigi’s Mansion 3 renders that went a bit too far by giving them hyper realistic individual hairs and teeth, this is a bit nicer.

I don't get some people. They write the exact same thing multiple times and think that people will suddenly care about it more, how can they do that and act like they aren't wasting their time
Over the years, I love how Nintendo has managed to give Mario more realistic details while still keeping the classic look. The only official design that has really tried to push the boundary between realistic and cartoon was Movie Mario's design, which kept the essence of the original, but is different enough to be considered a variation rather than an iteration. Modern Mario however will keep upgrading more and more for the years to come, and if Switch 2 rumours are true, then it might be sooner than we think!

They found that happy medium from the hyper-realistic Odyssey render with all the human hairs being visible. Ew. They’ve gone to… cartoony with some fabric texture. But he just looks better this way and the colors still being retained is so good. It’s easy to wash out the blue in a denim texture, but they kept a vivid yet real texture that feels like something you can touch. Everything is so spot on with this design.

@@DORAisD34D I thought Toy Story 4 looked absolutely beautiful in terms of visuals and animation (even if I thought the movie overall was kind of lackluster), but opinions are subjective and not everyone has the same one. Who knows, some people might hate Mario's new design

I’m so happy they made the odyssey design the permanent design, personally it has always been my favorite.
I LOVE the new renders! I think after the mario movie, nintendo is trying a bit more detailed aproach to there charecters. reminds me of ssbb!

@@DORAisD34D I have never seen anyone complain about that, that's very strange. You can definitely tell the glow-up from Toy Story 1 to Toy Story 2, though.

I personally like the 2023/odyssey version as it’s a nice blend between the two styles
While the new one’s texture is more visible (most notably the enlarged Jean texture) it does make Mario look more smaller and more toy(?) like along with his hair appearing more like wood than hair
I also appreciate how more cartoonish they made him in Wonder

The new look gives me Mario Odyssey vibes and I like it.
I like that they know how to not make the character look uncanny with overdone or hyperrealistic detail and keep it cartoony

First, you can have glasses-wearing girls take them off and suddenly become beautiful, or have girls wearing glasses flashing those cute grins, or have girls stealing the protagonist's glasses and putting them on like, "Haha, got your glasses!" That's just way too cute! Also, boys with glasses! I really like when their glasses have that suspicious looking gleam, and it's amazing how it can look really cool or just be a joke. I really like how it can fulfill all those abstract needs. Being able to switch up the styles and colors of glasses based on your mood is a lot of fun too! It's actually so much fun! You have those half rim glasses, or the thick frame glasses, everything! It's like you're enjoying all these kinds of glasses at a buffet. I really want Luna to try some on or Marine to try some on to replace her eyepatch. We really need glasses to become a thing in hololive and start selling them for HoloComi. Don't. You. Think. We. Really. Need. To. Officially. Give. Everyone. Glasses?

i really like his new look, just something about it. I did kinda found it weird because when i played odyssey i thought it was weird how they tried to fit this cartoon character into a realistic world but i feel like i warmed up to it tbh

Ok. When you said new look, I thought you meant he was gonna be shorter and more like his wonder counterpart after his upcoming game. Thank goodness it's just a 4K upgrade.
I love the fact that Mario still looks the same throughout the GameCube era, but with touchups made to his design.
Not to be a party pooper, but Mario already recieved a glow up in his artworks both in Mario Party Superstar and more importantly Mario Odyssey (which is even more detailed than the Mario vs. DK artwork). My question is: is this another "one-off" detailed artwork then they'll return to the matte texture?

One weird addition of Mario renders is in Super Smash Bros Brawl where his skin and his hair and mustache is plastic while this outfits such as his overall has a realistic look its a weird mix.

It's not too detailed like the model used for the Mario movie with individually rendered hairs and whatnot
but it has enough detail to differentiate each texture instead of everything looking like its made from one homogenous substance, all while still keeping the exact same shape of Mario. I like it, it's a simple but fresh coat of paint

I noticed this look for Mario when Odyssey came out back in 2017, Mario looks very clean in that game. And the readers show it

It’s nice that once they found the perfect design for Mario all they did was make him slightly more detailed.
In all honesty, I kinda like Mario having a plastic-y design. It helps him fit with the cartoon style of the games.
I have a feeling that the movie's look prompted Nintendo to amp up the main render's design.

I disagree about the older designs lacking any personality. I think they have their own unique charm. With that being said, I like the new design too. It looks really high quality, and you can tell they have come a long way.
The Odyssey version was the most detailed of what I have seen.

I remember Mario’s look being even more detailed in SSBM, and finding it odd when subsequent games featuring him used less detailed models.
My favorite Mario art style is differently from the recent Super Mario brothers wonder. Everything pops and just has so much personality.

That’s exactly why I’m hyped about getting Mario vs Donkey Kong the Nintendo Switch remastered. The graphics for the game looks surprisingly too amazingly gorgeous for a game that’s originally released for the GameBoy Advance 20 years ago, it used the same graphics as Super Mario Odyssey & that was one of the best games of all time, I love Odyssey. I’m proud that Nintendo is taking more risk with their third party games & IPs like this. When you’re thinking of Nintendo remastering Mario vs Donkey Kong, you expected it to share the same compressed graphic quality as Super Mario 3D World, which is a Mario game I really didn’t get into when it first came out same goes to my thoughts with the Switch port but… no! Look at that! It looks fantastic!👌🏻

Realistic Mario is a good one that did bring nostalgic back, the plastic-y is only the beginning from the past, and now, the future is here, the Super Mario got way more detailed than before. ^^

Personally I am someone who believes graphics don’t need to be that improved. But the current Mario now is the point that’s perfect in my opinion. You have destabilize but it’s not over detailed. It’s if you give wrinkles and creases or anything it is overboard. However stuff like the new Mario can use some slight improvements in the future maybe. To me graphics arnt to important I think current new mario is the line. I mean why would you need more detail no casual player will notice any more detail. Honestly graphics should go to a point of detail and movement causing some change like a jacket floating a bit if your falling or being blown back as it’s simple and it makes sense to have.
Honestly, it really reminds me of the odyssey model
