    So much to learn here! Excellent student as is the instructor! I’m just happy I knew this was a eucalyptus tree lol. You calling it a “grey gum” threw me off. I used to love camping out underneath them when I was out in California. They’re such a great tree for clearing out your lungs. Great work! 💪🏼😎👍🏼

      If my memory serves, the story goes, they were brought from australia to California in the 1880s to make paper, because they were fast growing, but the importer didn’t know they were nearly impossible to grind up, being such hard wood, leading to the companies bankruptcy. The original planting of a few acres of them can be seen and driven past on the I-5 north of Sacramento. They are a hard to remove invasive species that spread like weeds, are poisonous to water fowl of the pacific flyway, and several other negative ecological problems in California. They smell good and repel many biting and crop damaging insects, grow in drought and burn hot, and aren’t likely to be going anywhere anytime soon.

    I have to say, I’m a mechanic and have loved working with my younger brother who is a craftsman in aboricultre for sure, and I’ve always told him that he has the “heart of teacher”. This video is literally, exactly like a day on the job with him. Nothing goes farther in teaching a craft than patience and attitude. And you exhibited both! Seriously, I love tree work and am an experienced rock climber but HATE fixing trucks! So working with a teacher on the weekends who is patient and has a great attitude is a breath of fresh air and a boon to my soul. Long story short…. You did more for that young lady than you realize my brother. Great job!

      Brother, your eloquent, kind and wise words are a boon to anyone with a heart. As a climber of 30+ years, but someone who tries to carry an attitude akin to yours, into my own endeavors in whatever area they may be.....all I can say, is good for you. I used to work under my older brother in construction, back in the 80's....I haven't seen him in 12 years now, being across the U.S.,....but this times working with tour brother are precious....even a lifetime later....God Bless You and Yours! By the way, this young lady was super impressive as well, no? Talk about great attitude (and bravery) all around! Calm, controlled dialog....paced and professional....I could not be more happy for them.

    I loved her very pertinent (🙏🙏🙏😁) question, about which line goies above which, as in, "what if....😬..." ya'know?
    The funny thing is, most rigs will involve a high degree of certainty, as far as whether you can rely on a rigging point _below_ your climbing line, or _not._ But sometimes, there _are_ those grey zone situations, where what you're dropping into the system is not super clear...

    From the 3:00 mark, when she had to swing to the front of that lead, I was fully and duly impressed. In that wind, on a skinny-ish(skinny-enough) lead, on that funny angle....at that height...my palms were totally sweating...and ive been doig this for over 30 years.

    Why would you use a handled ascender and not bother to have it attacked to your harness? That would give you another point of safety....that's a no brainer which is being ignored. Just a thought, a vertical caver would never ignore another point of safe contact especially when you already have it attached to the rope.

    • @samuelluria4744

    • @macman231
      @macman231 11 месяцев назад

      @@samuelluria4744 Gotcha, I understand you now. Typically yes, a hand ascender can have a tether of sufficient strength compared to the system, attached with sufficient length so you can use it as required by the climber, and attach it to the harness waist tie in loop/s specified for supporting the climber in their activity. In some caving or climbing configurations a hand ascender might even have a tether going all the way down to the foot so the climber can both push up with a foot and pull or stabilize their position with their hand on it and also in that case it can be a very good idea to even have a second tether from the ascender to the harness in case the foot loop slips off. It this style of climbing method usually there is a second ascender attached to the harness waist via a locking carabiner which will provide almost instant progress capture as the climber ascends. Cavers, at least careful cavers, like to maintain three points of contact though for additional safety when on rope. Cheers.
